They id'd Thomas and when the Redskins offered a bargain price he pulled the trigger.

The real question to me is what next?

    4.55 timed by Dolphins scouts.

Do think he needs to hit the weight room though but now that this is his job...

this is a weak draft. already seeing some players drafted that look like busts. giving up a 5th or 7th in this draft to get a player you want is smart

That trade may have been a steal had they picked someone that would fit the value label....like saayyy MALLETT??

It was too much to give up for a RB with mediocre speed and fumbling problems.

Have to win the draft game as well BK.

I suspect one of the reasons why Irish made this trade is they are quite happy with the developmental Wr's and Te's we already have, Epps, Shuler, Moore, Wallace, JPru, meaning late rd picks for competition players are not as needed this offseason.

Being decisive can make up for lack of speed. I guess I'm glad we took the slow running back in round three rather than round one with ingrahm. Still not happy.

Ireland needs like 5 drafts to get it all imo. At least he isn't being desperate

Are you guys suggesting that Thomas isn't exactly in top shape? That could mean some room for improvement.

They might be fine with the positions but they are lacking speed on offense. We have 1 playmaker in Brandon Marshall but he isn't a speed guy. I just don't like where we are headed offensively. I hope we get some vertical threat tomorrow but if we don't I'll be disappointed.

Well, keep in mind Irish did find two vertical threats for no draft picks at all, Austin Miles and Anthony Armstrong, he does have a good eye for that talent which is one of the reasons why I'm not terribly worried about that one as Moore or Wallace or JPru or whomever can easily be our Miles or Armstrong this season.

Running back is a different matter, there are backs with speed and size still on the board like Jones, Scott, Carter, Fanin, we really should land one as betting the farm on Kory Sheets is just not smart.

He looks underdeveloped Jaj, his arms and shoulders are smallish and not cut up I think that is a part of the reason for the fumbles..imo.

Definitely. His upright style hurts as well, and he has a poor hold on the ball.

Btw, it is 11 fumbles in 2 years, 7 last year. Not 7 in two years.

Hopefully he can get it fixed - some backs have been able to overcome fumble issues, others have not. I would have preferred someone without them to start with.

That's a good thing. It's what Miami's good at. He could perhaps be a little more explosive and faster with work at the next level. Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown were productive for years because they were in the best shape.

He is still learning his position. He came from a JUCO and was a BQ there. So he quite an athlete. I posted a clip (printed) from an analysis discussing his pos and neg.

    means nothing.

    1.54 10 yard split
    10'3" broad jump
    34' vertical

He has leg explosion. I'll take a chunk of 20 yard runs over one 80 yard run any season.

Fumbles lost is 7 of 11 isn't it?

BTW it is surprising how he measures to P Hillis physically, about 6'0, PH was 240 pds coming out, he also ran the same 4.55 as Hillis, it is also interesting that because DT was not a RB until his jr yr in college maybe he saved some of the pounding that say a Dion Lewis has taken.

he's a solid 230 pounds and benches 225 x 21. I'm sure an NFL coaching staff can teach him how to better protect the ball.

Exactly, imho Ireland did a fine job so far especially without a #2 pick to work with, he had to create one to get DT and we still have 3 or 4 picks left and we have already landed 2 starters.

Not to mention the kid was a Qb and only played Rb the past 2 years. He has low tread despite all the attempts because of that and he has a LOT of room to be coached up.

One reason why his body has not been developed the same way other RBs would have by now. Look at Ingram in comparison.

Agreed. Two good or better starters filling our two biggest needs so far is more than I expected without a 2nd. Also consider the money we don't have to pay FA's.

Thomas, a former QB, has been the Wild Cat guy for two years, another plus having a RB who can actually throw.

We're at #14 on Sat, and Green and DJ Williams are still there. Fill the TE need and I'm a happy camper. There's also a few speed WR's still out there which could work.

i dont want to go overboard here, but i think this kid has to be the clear starter at some point this season for this pick to work out. one of these times, we are going to get lucky with a guy on offense. RB is a great position for a surprise breakout guy.

ok, while im on the optimism train....i just looked at a video of him. first two words that popped into my head: marcus allen

Allen was faster and probably more explosive down at the goal line, to me he reminds me of a Calvin Hill/Hillis or late 90's Denver type of Running Back, a straight up and down runner who can plant, cut, and go, do not know if he can drop his pads and power into the hole down at the goal line though.

I still want a passrushing role player SB, we need someone to book end with Wake and who can give Nolan another weapon to attack offenses with..right now we really do not have anyone like that as a prospect, C McCoy washed out.

Yep, same thing I noticed he runs with Authority, problem is does he have that boxer's sense of slipping a blow as there will be guided missiles week in and week looking to jack him up with that running style.

Eric Dickerson was the best I ever saw at avoiding those KO hits.
