I just saw it on facebook. This is a very sad day for Dolfan nation. Nobody brought the passion that he did. My prayers go out to his family and friends. RIP Mad DoG

Oh, no. Not the Mad Dog!
But think of the life he lived. What an incredible life, doing what he loved, for all those years. A lot of his heaven was right here on Earth. Now he gets the rest of it, for eternity. Thanks for the memories, Mad Dog. Godspeed.

Truly a sad day. I feel like a member of my family has died. Jim was a member of ALL of our families.

I move to rename the radio broadcast booth in his honor.

I've contacted the team about renaming the broadcast booth. I think fans around the world would love it. Wouldn't be surprised if the team already had plans for it.

Jim Mandich dated a friend of my wife's nearly 35 years ago for a short period of time. I got the opportunity to meet him and talk to him a few times. He was as much of a delight in person as he was on radio and TV. Once my wife's friend and JM stopped seeing one another. I never got the opportunity to talk to him in person again, but I always enjoyed his commentary on the radio and TV and, especially his comments on the radio during Dolphin games. He was one of a kind and he will truly be missed by all of us who considered him the voice of the Dolphins for the last decade or more. Rest in peace Jim Mandich.

a 88 patch on our uni's for the season should be a given.

    terrible news.

a jewel of a human being. Once got into a long discussion with him about drafting Johnny Morton instead of Tim Bowens. I remember his words to this day: "The old man (Shula) says that Timbo will own the line of scrimmage for 10 years, and I trust the old man."

If it is possible to bottle the Aqua and Coral that pumped through that man's veins... can we please do an infusion on all current and future Dolphins' players, staff, owners, announcers, etc. with it? :praying:

Sad sad sad indeed. He and I shared a few private conversations about religion off the air a few times since we were both Orthodox Christians (I am a member of the Orthodox Church in America and he was Serbian Orthodox). He was a thoughtful and decent man, a man of high moral character and someone that I looked up too. He was also a very helpful man who used his celebrity to help others many time, as he was a big supporter of many charities. He was so much more than just a jock/radio announcer, he was a REAL MAN ! I will miss him more than anyone can imagine.

I loved you Jim and will miss you tremendously. Words cannot express how much.

Bile Duct/Gall Bladder cancer has a dismal prognosis. The idea that he survived this long is a testament to his perseverance and pure physical fitness as a football player. As a medical student I was involved with some of his care, and I know for a fact that he really put on a great fight.

if you watch that HBO documentary on the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry, there is a beautiful clip of the game in '68 or '69 when Michigan came back and beat the Buckeyes of young Mad Dog being carried out by his teammates on their shoulders.

I agree with whomever said that we should wear a #88 patch for this season, or an #88 sticker on the helmets.

RIP Mad Dog, Dolphin games will never be the same without you.
