Flacco's one of the exceptions..... which IMO doesn't mean that the taller Mallett is one too.

Alen is overrated. He's born in '91 if I'm not mistaken. He's a fake 19.

Maybe my memory is wrong. I could've sworn when I watched him play, that when he was pressured a bit, he didn't really have the quickest release getting passes off or when he's on the move or throwing while sliding..... or when he's not fixed on his initial target. But like I said, I could be completely wrong.

Just ribbing you man. Not to turn this into a circle jerk, but you really do know your stuff. Make no mistake though, you're the second most handsome 19 year old on the forum.

I became less concerned about his mobility after I went back and watched some of the UD videos.

I hope we draft Mallet. I think 15 is a good spot to take a chance if we feel someone has the upside to be the answer at the Qb position. Mallet actually seems to move well in the pocket to me, he seems to avoid the rush and always, always looks downfield, I think the fact that he's strictly a pocket passer that comes from a pro style offense gives him a big edge over guys coming from spread offenses in college. I think he's going to be the best Qb in the class in the long run. I know he has red flags so I can't say I'll be surprised if we pass on him but I'd take him at 15 and develop him for a year behind Henne. I don't think we are a guard or Rb away from the Superbowl, we need a Qb to be a title contender, I hope we target a guy and go after him this year. Henne isn't the answer and this team is not going to a Superbowl without a better Qb.

With VD, I only ever knew of the one thing with Zook, but it was the reason I was against the pick. In my case it was speculation about how important of a red flag it was. I thought it was potentially indicative of a player who wasn't going to work hard and just relied on his athletic ability. That is a big concern for me b/c I don't think 99.9% can succeed on just athletic ability. If the speculation was accurate then you have to believe that VD would change. In my experience most people don't change so it's simply a bad bet to bet on change. VD either changed or was able to convince and show the team that he was always willing to work hard.

I think the height is a factor simply b/c it's generally more difficult for taller people to quickly shift their hips and reset their feet. IMO Mallett is not athletic enough to do that well. In that regard he is the anti-Marino. People remember Dan's arm and release but it was his quick feet that made it all happen. I see Mallett as less able to do that than Flacco. I see his potential upside as something less than Flacco. And that is before you get to the character red flags. As I said before, betting on people to change is generally a bad bet.

I agree with you. My only exception are players who have faced a crisis that caused them to reevaluate themselves. I actually like some of those type guys (depending on the guy of course). Like Mike Williams of the Seahawks who I mentioned last year would turn his football career around and was hoping we'd snag him in FA. It was the same reason I thought Wake would become a ProBowler, and why I thought Blount would become a en excellent player and teammate in the NFL. The main guys I see that from in this draft are Bowers, Greg Little, Marvin Austin, and Kendrick Ellis off the top of my head. Conversely, I believe that Fairley is a time bomb waiting to go off, especially once he's paid and his ego and/or sense of entitlement skyrockets..... and I wouldn't touch Newton anywhere in the draft.

great point. Marino and a lot of those great QBs have awesome hips that they can open up in a hurry to get the ball out accurately and before the pressure arrives. That's one of the traits I like about Gabbert. But first you need the feet properly squared up before the hips can do anything, right?

If you look, you can find a red flag on every player. So your saying in fact we should never have drafted Marino, interesting!

I have to say i dont agree. Longer legs would allow him to drop back faster, with fewer steps & not need to find as many throwing lanes as say Brees. As for facing inferior oposition...IN THE SEC?? and its not like he was around a ton of talent, he had to win many games himself....against SEC telent. Hope we grab him (and he is still there).

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with most of this. Even if the longer legs did "allow" him to drop back faster, which I disagree with because you still have to get those legs moving, that has nothing to do with those long legs getting to where they need to be when making throws.

Would anyone here like to argue that college defensive talent isn't inferior to NFL talent?

DJ Williams won an award didnt he?
Greg Childs is one of the best WRs in college football.
Knile Davis is one of the top RBs in college football (and allows the play action to really open up).
His other receivers are far from slouches.
And his Oline is nothing to sneeze at.

Mallett had arguable THE best offense in the country to play in.

He also lost a few big games himself as well.

Using 1 reference from 27 years ago doesn't negate years of examples contradicting it.... but if you want to believe that--- like I said, kids believe in the Easter bunny until they know better.

I'm currently in another nearby country, not in Thailand, but no direct TV in any of them. The way you watch NFL here other than a few games that are on satellite every week is get a fast internet connection and NFL Sunday Ticket off of nfl.com. Some guys even hook their computers up to their large flat screen TVs, the image is damned good. All the games are archived, so we can go back and watch any previous game at any time. Cost is roughly same as through Direct TV. No excuses now Todd. ;)
