CK reminds me of a young Joel Murray...and that interview reminded me of this scene where he plays George Calamari from "One Crazy Summer".

although you're right about them editing it to make it appear less confrontational, it would have been great to see those responses because they were spot on. love the comeback about vick, favre and big ben

Could not agree more. That would have been one of the best responses in NFL network history, and kudos tou you CK for the balls to say it. However, not surprising at all that they edited it out. Vick is the networks favorite player now that favor is retired(hopefully)

Off the record, on the record.... the media blows it out of proportion...the only people concerned and that have "questions", are in the media. The clubs/teams- personnel already have their research done and WILL NOT be forthcoming w/ their findings. CK nailed it and the commentator is aloof. My goodness!

Exactly. What's more, they just pulled the video altogether. I guess CK just pulled back the curtain in Oz.

It was refreshing to hear Ck and I am SO TIRED of people in the media that act like that interviewer. It really gets me IRATE when I hear someone say, well I talked to the GM...and ...blah,blah. Give me a break!

What I do like is that CK is developing his own eye, staying away from the same circles that everyone runs in and make HIS OWN assessments! Bravo!

I'm really glad you agree. I got worried that I'd come off to people actually in the industry like I'm way off base or something.

Someone on Twitter mentioned this as well. The video hasn't been pulled I think it might just be a bad link, the shortened bit.ly type links might not be working well for it. You can find it here:

    http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-draft/09000d5d81f698c6/Defending-Mallett

It's still up and running (thankfully).

No, I think you are being to critical of yourself. In interviews, like this one, you just need to stick to your guns(as you did) Honestly. You would come across to people in the industry as credible( and did). I was watching this with three friends on my laptop at dinner (all work w/me) and they said, and I quote," Damn, he just said exactly what I would have!" In other words, why the heck would anyone be getting info from a GM or even team personnel that they could trust (?) and what is off the record exactly that is credible(?) Insider info, I don't even trust that.

One person evaluates talent, you. (credible)
Another person takes everyone else's word, Interviewer.

I do know that there is allot of misleading info out there... ask Dan Marino's drug dealer at Pitt. I am sure Don Shula did, lol!!

This is a very good lesson on how the media tries to shape the public opinion. It has been obvious to me that the media tries to paint the picture they want to public to see instead of actually showing them what is actually going on.

I think you are off base on Cam Newton, but you are right on the money with Ryan Mallett. Bottom line, on the field, this is a quarterback who has unmatched passing skills in this draft. One of the aspects of his game that impresses me the most is how much responsibility he has at the line of scrimmage. There may be one or two other quarterbacks in this draft that can even come close to the responsbility Ryan Mallett has had relative to making pre snap reads, calling his protections, making audibles, and calling check with me's. What he does at the line is very advanced stuff.

From a post snap standpoint, this is a quarterback that is very adept at going through his progressions and has also had the responsibility to adjust to what the defense has given him post snap. He's not great at adjusting when the defense surprises him at this point, be he has at least been exposed to it. That is something that will develop more as he gains experience in the NFL.

Really appreciate you chiming in. Valuable insight to know that you guys are thinking the same thing, as far as how the media just keeps hounding scouts and GMs for info about players and then they just buy it hook, line and sinker. This is why, whether it's right or wrong or anyone in particular agrees or disagrees with the results of it (disagreement seems very common in the business), independent analysis just seems the way to go. Maybe we wouldn't end up with all the facts and maybe I don't have as good an eye or as thorough a process as the pros, but I think doing this stuff independently is still valuable.

I think you defended yourself pretty well in a lawyeresque way. You did a good job of kicking him in the ego, which I think is necessary from time to time.

You exhibited good assuredness in front of the camera, and it seemed to come across naturally, so kudos for that.

I just watched it again. soooo glad you didn't cave to his logic. Ad Hoc fallacious argumentation has been the bane of the media and the justice system for as long as I can remember. The irony is that I'm praising an elitist club member...

It wouldn't surprise me if they asked you back in the future because you had good camera presence; you're extremely thorough with your work; and you're not afraid to go against the masses........ so I could see them having an interest in you and Universal draft when they want a fresh perspective and b/c I'm sure they feel like you'll be a straight shooter with them which is refreshing.

I might disagree with you about Mallett, but I think you (and Boomer, Con, Alen?) did a hell of a job and deserve some respect for it.

That is one of the great things about running things by a forum full of fans who take it seriously though DMike, guys like CK and Boom and Conu and KB HAVE to defend their positions, Burmeister can simply give a Dictum "Thus Sayeth" and never has to defend anything at all.

Glad to see UD really blossoming this Draft Cycle, first the Cam Newton stance now some live interviews, though I'd like to see Boom have to wear the Angus Young shorts and tie..:D

Well, you can hate AdamPrez, but just not the rest of us. Ok, you can hate the rest of us, but just not me since I was the main one defending you.

Great job CK handling a terrible interview. Seemed like the interviewer was wanting to play a gotcha game instead of talking about Mallet and the issues. Sad, but you did a great job handling it.

Thought Nabo was killing it with the gag ball..that was funny.

Now I also hope that Newton tears up the NFL and UD really earns their chops as that was a hugely bold effort to highlight Cam Newton's potential as a NFL Qb and to stake out that position before the quaffed hair crowd said anything else but "have not went back and looked at the tape..".

As they usually do starting in mid January..when the season has been over for 3 months...way to go out on a limb there Mayock et al.

Verklempt is an old Yiddish word that means something like 'overcome with emotion'. If you had been a fan of SNL when Mike Meyers was part of the cast, you would know it. :)

As for your other question, what was John Offerdahl's number? ;)
