SI.com senior NFL writer Peter King made some waves locally by predicting that the Dolphins would select TCU quarterback Andy Dalton in the first round. King wrote that no team has worked out Dalton as exhaustively as the Dolphins have. We had King on the show Wednesday and asked about what led him to prognosticate the selection of a player who has not been on many lists of the top 15 picks in next week's NFL Draft: "One of the reasons that I gave Dalton to the Dolphins, is because of what they did when the worked him out and, you know, all the different tests they put him through. ... It would require a great leap of faith obviously, Joe, for the Dolphins to take him at 15, and sometimes you make picks in these mock drafts that you wouldn't go to Vegas with. Sometimes, you take a shot. This qualifies as taking a shot. And, plus, I think Dalton is going to go higher than people think. In the last two weeks, when I have been calling around, talking to people around the league about the draft, Andy Dalton and Christian Ponder are red hot, and those two guys, I think, are both going to get picked higher than people think, because they are more ready to play." http://www.thephins.com/forums/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=17
Dalton being "red hot" and going in the first round is similar to analysts and writers saying the same thing about Colt McCoy. If we take Opie at 15, I'll probably need a new TV........ and beer mug.
As I said last year when Dan Williams constantly got linked to this team, if we select him, I will throw my computer out the window. The same applies to Andy Dalton. JMHO.
If we select dalton I'll throw alen's computer out the window................... F that I'm not destroying my computer.
That's a completely different line.... I mean list..... and there was a door separating #1 from the other 30.
If we select Dalton at 15 can I throw Unlucky out the window while he's holding onto Alen's computer? And to clarify..... I like Dalton as a player, just not in the first round.
I like Dalton but always thought of him as more of a 2nd or 3rd rd guy- I would be fine with Ponder as our 1st rd pick.
I wouldn't be surprised if most of the hype over these guys is being perpetrated by teams like NE who may looking to make a trade down. Much easier to land a good deal when someone like Buffalo or Cinci is scared stiff their guy won't be there in round two.
I assumed all this dillegence toward Dalton was incase we were able to trade down and acquire a 2nd rounder. FYI I like Ponder over Dalton any day of the week and Mallett over both of them.
I don't think that's a surprise, though I think we discussed it via e-mail a while back. Him and then Greg McElroy later.
It doesn't add up with that premium position talk. If they pick either a QB or a pass rusher that's a definitive way to predict Miami's first round pick. A LG? I can't see that.
I believe Ive had Dalton higher than most here all offseason, I think the kid has got some talent, is smart, has a quick release, and is underrated on this board.
Other than intelligence I don't see any trait you look for in a good QB that Dalton has. He doesn't have a good arm, he's not particularly accurate, and he's not very athletic. He also comes out of a spread offense that everyone knocks Newton and Gabbert for. I just don't see the hype with this guy.
