You mean a newspaper reporter actually got it wrong? Prepostorous!

why would it matter what he's drinking? If he's out late on the town, that should be grounds enough for questioning his judgement, especially after a long stretch across country.

I really don't see how this is an issue anymore, personally. Its been cleared up by the team that he was being linked to.

    That says it all, no?

The only thing I gathered was that Carolina was merely repeating back the excuse or what have you that Mallett provided them. That's hearsay. I haven't seen anything other than Ryan informing a staff member he was "sick". I don't think it's wise to simply dismiss something from multiple sources just because reporters "aren't always right".

    Yep, a non-story.

The more crap that is thrown out to hurt him, the more I'm liking this guy, somebody wants him to fall in the draft.

You're not going to get a better source than the team that is being linked to the player in question. They didn't have to come out and say anything but they did. I really don't know what else to tell you other than that but if you don't believe them, then that's your own thought and mindset. I just don't agree with it. :)

Actually, despite the reporters being wrong about the hiring part, they did impeccably confirm that Ross flew across the country to meet with Harbaugh. So by your example, that would parallel reporters saying that Mallett was seen out on the town; however, they got his drink order wrong. lol.

I understand where you're coming from. I just don't take it for face value if Carolina is reporting hearsay. I could see a slimy Seattle reporter spreading it while he's visiting the Seahawks, but I'm not sure what angle a Charlotte & Chicago reporter would have for messing with a kid's future.

Added: If the Panthers are looking to trade out of the 1st pick, then it does them no good to say anything harming about a player. It's in their best interest that all the QBs look like the prize of the town. So I wouldn't take what Carolina says at face value either since we all know there's a ton of disinformation going around right now.

That's definitely a possibility..... people can listen to Scott Van Pelt's pod cast with the reporter, Brad Biggs, and decide what they want to believe.

Biggs writes for the Chicago Tribune, National Football Post, and is also the NFC North's rep for the Pro Football Writers of America. He's an established reporter, not a small time hack trying to make a name for himself. I just find it odd that a respected national reporter breaks the story and then a local reporter (from where the incident occurred) confirms it.

If you scroll down, it's in the middle of the page.

That's a pretty arrogant statement. Why do I need to reread it?------ Is it because I support our QB even though he's a bust "according to the almighty & omniscient rdhstlr23"? :glare:

You're right. We supporters are making excuses for him.
It's Chad fault that the ground game was one of THE LEAST productive in the NFL (and we probably won't be bringing back our RBs as added proof of it).
it's Henne's fault that the Oline was injured and couldn't block for crap the 2nd half of the season allowing the equivalent of 52 sacks in a 16 game season.
it's Chad's fault he had less receivers going out on routes because he needed max protect to stop the pressure, and even that didn't fully work <see above>.
It's Henne's fault that he had an idiot (force retired) OC who called some crappy games while constantly subbing in a dead WC after Chad was engineering a drive.
It's Chad's fault his HC is ultra conservative and preferrs to play for FGs.
It's Henne's fault he was forced to play with 6 practice squad guys at WR & TE after trading Cam, his deep threat Ginn, while never drafted him a receiving TE.
It's Chad's fault our special teams sucked in all aspects of the game and allowed the most TDs (4) in the NFL. That's 28 POINTS.
It's Henne's fault our return game & defense provided very FEW short field opportunities so that our conservative, possession-based, lack of run ability offense doesn't have to march 75 yards down the field on every drive against teams who have picked up on your OC's play calling.
It's Chad's fault the ground game rarely picked up yards on 1st down putting him in countless 3rd and longs with slower guys who don't excel at getting open down field quickly when a defense is expecting it (especially when it's typically 2-3 guys going downfield).
It's Henne's fault Marshall was injured in the middle of the year and Hartline shortly after, leaving him with only 2 viable receivers for much of the year.
It's Chad's fault Fasano was injured and an inexperienced practice squad TE was forced to start, who later stopped a route causing a costly turnover.
It's Henne's fault our defense gave up 7 crushing (and game changing) TD passes of 30+ yards, where as GB & Pitt allowed 4 combined.
It's Chad's fault our secondary led the league in dropped INTs and finished near last in actual INTs.
It's Henne's fault the passing game was predictable when the ground game was failing.
It's Chad's fault the playbook was designed around a QB like Pennington and was never altered to suit Henne's needs.
It's Henne's fault he had no outlet back to dump it off to when defenses were beating up on him.
It's Chad's fault the ref blew the call against Pittsburgh.
It's Henne's fault he hurt his knee.
It's Chad's fault you don't understand the developmental process of a young QB. lol.

The last I checked, Henne's been working his butt off to learn the playbook and organize practices while some players are using this as vacation time. Yeah, I totally need to reread that.

I want my QB to show up hurt if he's hurt.

What's a good way to show you'll play through it?
Show up dinged (Not hungover, etc) and toes to the line.

Here's a primer for those of you that don't understand basic
    concepts;

    1. Be on time.
    2. Wear proper attire.
    3. Be at the right place.

The right play would be to show, up, ready to go..Sick. Leave it to the team
to send you home to recover or not.

And forgive me if I don't trust the word of a guy that has his wallet tied to
    the person he's speaking for.

    Crank up the excuse machine.

As Dan LeBetard says; I imagine it to be one of those old clunky tin boxes
that you crank a lever on and, it plays a sound. Then, *POP* out comes the clown/excuse/etc

An agent for the player is full on TRUTH man..I mean..No question that a guy who's
living depends on the player in question rushes forth with a completely plausible defense.

    That's fine.......But reporters are wrong.

Lets refine this again....Reporters wrong...Agents right...

    Yeah.

The Panthers organization came out and said that he had informed them that he was feeling ill and that they did indeed meet with him. Should we not trust the Panthers either?

Are you going to address the many factors he mentioned in his post? Or are you going to hide behind Dan LeBetard? Frankly, I'd be shocked if you didn't. 9 times outta 10 the Henne bashers don't have a clue...

Exactly. If I'm being interviewed for a multimillion dollar job, I could be hit by a bus on the way, regain consciousness with my liver in a cooler of ice, and I'd still have the ambulance take me there in route to the hospital.

If you're sick enough to call in, that's all the more reason to go to the meeting/interview so your potential employer can witness your mettle first hand.

Because if you don't go, no matter how sick you "believe" you are, your future boss could hang up the phone and think-- "We might need this guy to play in a game after a 48 hour stomach virus, yet he's calling out sick for a non physical meeting?!"...... "This guy's a p***y!"

Umm, well maybe in Arkansas or Michigan they would recognize him but if you put him in a lineup with a little person I'd still have to guess which one was him. Why would anyone know who he is in Charlotte or care to take photos of him out?

You're not understanding. It's not about Mallett, it's all about Henne. People want Henne gone, and Mallett SEEMS like a suitable replacement. That being the case, he's being given the honeymoon, can do no wrong treatment. Just wait till he throws a few picks tho, Ireland will instantly become an idiot and the Suck for Luck campaign will begin. I swear, Miami fans dont deserve a good team. Not in the least.

This is my deep seated belief on things. I think you should show up to work
when you are "sick". Most people that call in "sick" are not "sick".
People that run businesses are not adult child care. They are people
seeking people that perform on a high level...When the chips are down
may be the most important day, and you need to get up and do what you
    are tasked to do.

I can't see what the issue is here, seems like all parties involved have moved on but a few people on the internet that have absolutely no firsthand knowledge of the situation can't let it go? If you don't want us to draft the guy thats a non issue but keeping ridiculous dishonest stories alive is just garbage, this story is over.

He and I share the same sense of humor regarding
"visualization" of things. I think he's remarkably smart.

It's not so much that I'd go point to pint with the previous wall of characters
post...Because, just like anything else, opinions are subject to variables, etc.

You can get it done, or you can't. In football, that's the bottom line, and, it's
the whole deal, not an individual thing.

I mean, we can just as well base Henne's failures/successes on flying spagetti
    monsters.

For me? I think we are forced to go with Henne this year. From a Sparano POV,
we sort of have to. If Sparano drafts a QB that isn't named "Marino" he's screwed.

So what's Peyton Manning's excuse for not winning during a 5 game stretch in the middle of the season when he went 1-4 (with 13 INTs and QB ratings of 67, 69, 59, 75) when he didn't have solid protection, was playing with receivers/TE's he wasn't accustomed to b/c his starters were out, had no ground game to aid him during this time, poor special teams, a defense that went from 8th in scoring to 23rd, passing defense that went from 15th in INTs to 31st while allowing opposing QBs a 91 rating?

    I guess Manning's not a winner. :tongue2:

When Roethlisberger no longer had the #1 ranked defense or #2 ranked ground game behind during his 3rd year starting and he finished the season with a 75.4 QB rating, 18 TDs and 23 INTS, what was his excuse for not winning (finishing 8-8 and not making the playoffs)?

No offense to you at all, Sir. But what you're trying to do is, dumb football down as if it were 48/96 or some other needlessly inflated fraction. If you want to evaluate a QB you need to take into account ALL factors which affected his performance, not just the ones that are easy to understand or the ones that support your predetermined disposition.

If two doctors are performing brain surgery and one patient dies, while the other makes a full recovery, its only natural to assume that the 2nd doctor did a better job than the first. Of course, an actual neurosurgeon would know that that one doctor had a terminally ill cancer patient while the other just needed a benign tumor removed, and most people wouldnt make any inference one way or the other b/c they realize that they haven't a clue either way. But for some reason, sports fans feel comfortable making assessments on things which they have an equally uneducated opinion on. No playing, coaching, scouting etc experience, and yet they feel confident enough to pronounce the career of a 3rd year QB DOA. And if anyone tries to explain the nuances of the game, you get what amounts to: "Henne's patient died and anything else is just an excuse". It's a naive and simplistic view of things, IMO. I look forward to next Friday, that's when we'll find out what the people who actually know what's going on will be forced to give their assessment of Henne's performance and potential.

I'm praying Mallett is gone when we pick, b/c I dont want to hear all the *****ing and complaining when we leave his *** on floundering on the draft board.
