Tonight on Twitter, Brandon Marshall basically puts it out there. He wants Ryan Mallett in Miami. Then Roddy White chimes in. Roddy White would know.
He has a lot of incentive in complimenting Henne. In fact, it's expected. He has no reason to say anything -- positive or negative -- about a player not on his roster (save for friends or college teammates, etc.). Making it pretty clear he wants Mallett IMO. He does not have full confidence in Henne, no matter what he says publicly. Neither does the defense.
Where does Marshall say he wants him in Miami? Looks like he's just praising him after watching some tape.
He's identified Mallett as a future All-Pro QB. Why wouldn't he want one in Miami? It's not as if his career didn't take a slight nosedive in his first season without a good QB. I don't know if people know just how frustrating last season was for Marshall.
I'd be frustrated, too, if I were doubled most of the year, had no ground game to help me out, had no room to break plays b/c my other guys did nothing to scare defenses or create space, and my OC & HC sucked at figuring out ways to get me the ball........ and I'd be the most pissed at my conservative coach preaching to QBs to not take chances with jump balls downfield (hence Lee ripping Thigpen's head off the lone time he tried it despite it working) despite being a physical, imposing, 6'4 beast.
just to be devil's advocate here, but this could also be nothing more than Marshall making a generalization. The last I checked, Brandon's not a scout.............. or Mel Kiper Jr.
I really think Mallet could be a great pick at 15. If it weren't for the drug use issues, Mallet would be a #1-3 pick at QB position this year. He has the most upside in my opinion and I would be thrilled to have him on our team. I'm no scout but I think he could be a great NFL QB. We can only pass on 1st rd QB's for so long. At some point you have to roll the dice and take a chance and Mallet seems like a pretty decent option to take a chance on
We currently have zero ground game threat to provide the "turtle" enough time to run play-action off of so that he can drop bombs down field to vertical threats we don't have (and that some fans think we don't need). Does anyone feel that conservative Sparano & gunslinger Mallett are at somewhat opposite ends of the spectrum?
That's so wrong.............. less hip than her I'd like to see her in a bikini though....... or at least a bikini top.
Thanks Jan. Just catch the ball Marsha ll
Exactly. There's the idea Todd!!!. We draft a QB with a cannon arm and limited mobility. To throw short-intermediate passes to our speed deprived depression (oops) possession WRs. And to get sacked and pestered by the rush b/c our OL cant protect him w/o using backs & TE's. And heaven forbid he fail to bail us out w/ 300 yd games week in and week out, which he'll surely have to do b/c our run game sucks, we have no explosiveness, and our D is good but not good enough to shut down the Pats, Chargers, Cowboys, Eagles, Giants etc. But hey, at least we'll have a new scapegoat!!! I can see the "Mallet's a bust, Fire Ireland" threads already...
I'm not going to be shocked if Mallett is already gone by pick # 15. There are too many teams working him out that draft higher. Somebody is going to pull the trigger on him early. JMHO.
Because clearly that first round pick to be spent on Mallet is the difference between a good supporting cast and a decent one right? You do realize the impact of a WR, RB, or frickin LG in the first round isn't extraordinary right? At worst hey maybe you have a little worse RB group since you have to spent money in FA on a guard instead of drafting one. Get the QB position right, then we'll worry about 4th WR, a couple of RBs, and a LG. Heck get the left guard, get cheap RBs, and draft a 4th WR in the fourth round. Insignificant compared to a quarterback.
I would not be surprise if Mallett is already off the board at 15, but he would be a good option for us.
He supposedly admitted to it at the Combine in February, the media is just hyping it up right now. It did not seem to bother the Fins FO enough to not have him in.
Great point. If Ireland and Sparano think that Mallett is a difference maker, a true "Franchise" QB, then you have to draft him - unless they believe that about Henne (and I cannot think that anyone does). A Franchise QB makes every other position on your offense better. An All Pro left guard does not, neither does an Al Pro RB or WR.
