That's good to hear, thanks for posting. I'm interested to see how their timing dynamic changes under Daboll as opposed to Henning's offense. Marshall was full of praise for Henne early on last year, and they had a few big completions - Minnesota and the first Jets game - but that didn't translate the rest of the year. I think we can make much better use of Marshall than Henning did, provided Sparano doesn't undermine the offense.
This season should be interesting, and hilarious to watch... I am not sure people realize how sloppy the game will be played this year, first reason because of unfamiliarity, 2nd reason, all the lazy football players that dont have to work out...The closest team that committed to their craft during all this BS should do very well.. Lets hope Sparano has weight in this dept....so far in his tenure, all the great offseason attendance has'n't produced squat in terms of continuity, passion, chemistry and performance... Which is a topic that blows me away as to why it hasn't... QB and homefield issues can trump any power that 100 percent attendance can achieve.
thats why the colts will probably be the best team in the league this year. They're the only group of players that are allowed to be in direct contact with their head coach, Peyton Manning.
Marshall clearly doesn't know what he's talking about. What the hell does catching passes from the guy have to do with evaluating his ability?
There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that Jake Long, a VG friend of Henne's, threatened Marshall to STFU, and make amends.
Didn't even know that was a rumor. Last I saw Jake and Chad were organizing the offensive players to meet 4 days a week. I think Darlington mentioned it a week or 2 back when he had his piece with Davone Bess and Roberto Wallace working out at Nova. I think between Long, Henne, and Dansby, there's enough leadership to keep them motivated during the lockout and keep guys showing up.
Not sure. Here's the link for the offensive players meeting. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...enne-long-to-lead-dolphins-playerrun-workouts It's from the Sun-Sentinel, but Darling did have the piece on Bess & Wallace. I think they were working out with Ryan Grice-Mullen and Chad Owens.
several bad assumptions: 1) Daboll is a better OC than Henning or somehow a "better fit" in the organization, this is a very bad assumption in every way... wishful thinking & homerism @ the sublime. 2) Sparano has "learned his lesson" & is well on the way to taking charge as Head Coach of a winning major NFL team in 2011. another very bad assumption. we are stuck with the same incompetent, hard headed, one-way street for leadership & this time without the wealth of experience of Henning & Parcells to draw upon. Sparano will simply never be Head Coach material. he is a parcellian experiment in coaching gone bad. 3) Henne & Marshall are best buddies now & on the "same page". would like to know what book they are reading, can't be the playbook. being on the same page was not the problem last year. the problem was not how the plays were drawn up & executed, the problem was Henne consistently throwing the ball badly to Marshall, mostly too deep or too far behind Marshall to catch it. the playbook won't fix that, no book will. Henne sucks. seems as if the entire NFL is in support of our inability to field a competitive team to play football in 2011 with the player lock-out . excuses, excuses, even before the first game is played the shorter the season, the better ...
You and I agree on a lot of stuff most of the time 23, but I think your kind of flat out wrong with a lot of this stuff. 1. Just as you say its homerism to think that Daboll is going to be better than Henning, its Haterism to think the opposite. There is no proof either way, we have not seen this group of players with a different OC and we have not see Daboll with a different group of players. You really just have to look at the playcalling from the last few years and ask yourself, Does it really get much worse?? We were complaining about playcalling after every game, dang near every series. I might be old school but I miss the old days we you would just complain about the players. 2. True Sparano is never going to change his overall philosiphy, but he had to learn something from last year. His first year we all talked about how he really motivated a untalented team to win, then the next year everybody is bashing the guy. Is he the best option, maybe not, but he is also only a 3rd year Head Coach. Seen much better men fail at being a head coach, especially talking over the underwhelming talent we had. This year with definatly be make or break for Sparano, either he can hack it or he'll have to go back down and learn some more before he maybe gets another shot. 3. Everybody has different opinions on Henne, I'm not in love with the guy, but he's our best option right now IMO. I found myself yelling at him a lot this last year, but also have to believe he struggled with a banged up O-Line and a bum Knee. I think you have to give the guy some credit. I'm sure he's looked at the tape of last year and learned a thing or two. This year we will get to see if he learned anything, and if it was Henning's offense (My personal opion) or if he just won't be a starter in the NFL.
How is it homerism? We just had one of the worst offenses I've ever seen. Just like last year, if this works you'll be singing the praises of Daboll writing colorful haikus and posting threads about Brian Beckham Daboll or whatever his middle name is. I will give you credit though, even after all of your flip-flops, you still wanted Thigpen to start after that Bears travesty. The assumption is that Sparano knows his job is on the line, and he ****ed up last season. If he doesn't do something about it, he gets fired. There's not much high paying opportunities for a former O-line coach and possibly failed head coach. If he doesn't fix his style, he loses his job. But the funniest and saddest part of your post is you felt Parcells and Henning with their "wealth of experience" was a good thing. Get a clue. A big one and get it delivered fast. When you say consistently, you mean "I really have no idea what I'm talking about" right? You are the same NFL Talent Evaluator (that's your occupation right?) who came out after the Titans game saying it was his worst game of the season. At this point, I don't even know what to tell you. When you get that clue, see if they also provide Lasik. As for them being on the same page, I think I'm going to have to agree with you here. I mean come on, what does Marshall know, you're at your home, posting on a forum, obviously your word is king here.
Yep, and Marshall even said he broke off routes and ran his own last year, doing this with timing routes would make Brady look bad. Henne struggled yes, but Marshall didn't help.
good. controversy, differing options, a little bit of passion & movement. having said that I will stick by my post: 1) Daboll is a better OC than Henning or somehow a "better fit" in the organization, this is a very bad assumption in every way... we'll have to wait & see. if he does work out, & there is no reasonable explanation why he would, then it would be a good thing. he's the least of my concerns, but has neither the experience or evident talent of Henning. 2) we are stuck with the same incompetent, hard headed, mediocre to sub-par, one-way street for leadership & this time without the wealth of experience of Henning & Parcells to draw upon. Sparano will simply never be Head Coach material. he is a parcellian experiment in coaching gone bad. 3) the problem was not how the plays were drawn up & executed, the problem was Henne consistently throwing the ball badly to Marshall, mostly too deep or too far behind Marshall to catch it. the playbook won't fix that, no book will. Henne sucks. he is a journeyman QB, simply not what we need we shall see who's right
I'm going to have to say false on this one Travis. Regardless of what rookie the Dolphins bring in, at this point there's no OTA's, rookie-camp, etc. for said rookie to learn the offense, so Henne will have a leg up in that regard. Also, depending on the rookie, say Greg McElroy for example, I doubt he's going to come in and unseat Chad Henne. And, who is to say that Henne doesn't do better in different offense. I've seen several posters compare this to New York's offense, which I think Henne would prove to be better in than Mark Sanchez; why can't he do the same here?
I may be nuts for saying this but if this team drafted Greg McElroy, he could unseat Henne if this lockout doesn't get in the way.
You think? I think he could eventually if he had a year to prepare for it. I was pretty impressed by him when I saw him in person against Tennessee this past fall. Tough SOB, a lot tougher than I thought as he got knocked around pretty good that game. He made some impressive throws too. I think he'd be a solid pick for Miami.
I like Greg as a guy who can do well at any level. I'm not sure about his strength but that's not always king. I am pretty confident he can, after a few years, run a team into the playoffs. I just don't see him as a day 1 kind of guy. He's a clean kid for sure though.
