With the 117th overall pick, the San Francisco 49ers draft... Ricky Stanzi, QB, Iowa We planned on taking this guy for a while now because we actually like him. He's a talented quarterback that's improved over the years and we look forward to developing him. His decision making will improve throughout practices and we feel that he has enough talent to fit into our system, which plays to his strengths. I've said in the past he is similar to Chad Henne and in some ways he is but in a lot of ways, he isn't. We've seen Stanzi discussed in the second to third round and we didn't/don't like him there at all. But in the fourth round, we are happily taking him as a developmental prospect. Thank you Buffalo for your willingness to trade back.
With the 118th pick the Colts select: Shane Vereen, RB California Position: Running Back Height: 5'10" Weight: 210
the steelers with pick 119 select db Marcus Gilchrist Clemson marcus will play dime and develop at FS
With the 120th pick in the 2011 GM League Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select ... Kristofer O'Dowd, C, USC Having lost out on some of the high profile center prospects in Free Agency (see Kalil, Ryan), the Kansas City Chiefs are very excited to add a player of O'Dowd's caliber late in round 4. Here's a scouting report, courtesy of NFLDraftScout: We like O'Dowd's abilities out in space, and can envision using him on screens and other plays that take advantage of his mobility. While he may not necessarily be the best at the point of attack, we feel he has the size to hold up against NFL nose tackles. Our plan is to have him back up the underrated Kyle Cook (who incidentally has started 32 consecutive games) at center, as well as learning both guard spots. Let's take a moment to address the elephant in the room - O'Dowd's lengthy injury history. Some might say that he's injury-prone. Others might say he's just been unlucky. The Chiefs fall somewhere in between that. While the injuries obviously remains a concern, what we've been most impressed with is how he battles back from injury - he's got a warrior mentality, something that won't be lost on coaches and teammates. Also, don't forget that the Chiefs have a a history of being willing to gamble (as we did with TE Tony Moaeki last year) on guys who have talent but can't stay healthy. At this stage in the draft we felt it was a calculated risk, and we're excited to have O'Dowd on our roster.
With the 121st pick of the 2011 NFL draft the Chicago Bears select Chimdi Chekwa, CB, Ohio State. Definitely not a position of need at this point, but we just can't ignore this kind of value at this stage of the draft. Great speed and size makes Chimdi a player with a lot of upside. If we can just teach him how to catch...
With the 122nd pick, the Arizona Cardinals (according to their bulletin) are proud to select... Jordan Todman, RB, UConn!
the steelers after losing a te to the pets select based on pure upside and value at pick 127 Shareece Wright, cb USC
Panthers select DE, Cedric Thornton, Southern Arkansas Cedric Thornton will provide great depth at the DE position in our 3-4 defense. He finished the 2010 season with 53 tackles, 13 TFL, and 1.5 sacks. He was rated as my number 4 DE for a 3-4, but his stock was lower because of the division he played in. I feel like he has a good amount of upside and you could never have too much depth on your defensive line.
With their 4th round comp pick, the San Diego Chargers are proud to select... Curtis Marsh, CB, Utah State!
With the 133rd pick in the 2011 GM League Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select ... Jaiquawn Jarrett, S, Temple At this stage in the draft, you're always looking for versatility, a guy that can fill several roles on your team. The Chiefs feel that they've found one of those guys in Jaiquawn Jarrett early here in the 5th round. Here's a scouting report, courtesy of NFLDraftScout: The scouting report really sums up what we're looking for from Jarrett. He played Free Safety at Temple, but to start with here at Kansas City we'll likely play him more at strong safety, much like we do with Eric Berry, the player he'll likely be backing up. We also like his ability to blitz from the secondary, which means he may see the field on some passing downs. We may even play some cover 2 schemes with both Berry and Jarrett on the field at the same time. Even if Jarrett doesn't get on the field all that much to start with, we expect him to be an immediate contributor on special teams. Given his attitude and intelligence, we expect him to excel in that area.
The Miami Dolphins from Washington select... OT Virginia Union David Mims A massive offensive tackle prospect who possesses a long, good-looking frame. Carries his weight well, isn't fat by any stretch and actually looks a bit thin throughout his upper half. Showcases impressive power at the point of attack in the run game and can absolutely dominate defenders at his level of competition at the point. Is a pretty good bender for his size and is really heavy handed; once he gets his paws on you the battle is over. Now, obviously he gets a bit upright and isn't real technically sound maintaining leverage and using proper hand placement, but the skill set is most definitely there. Possesses above-average range for his size in pass protection. Showcases good coordination and balance when asked to mirror and again likes to get his hands on defenders and anchor. Doesn't exhibit much of a kick-slide and is really raw and upright with his footwork. But talking with sources the guy doesn't even have an offensive line coach at his school. Impression: Physically the guy has the size, strength and athleticism to play in the league and is dripping with upside. Last year small school developmental tackles Ramon Harewood (6th round, Ravens) and J’Marcus Webb (7th round, Bears) both had similar physical attributes to Mims and both now look like potential long term NFL players as they continue to develop. And I think Mims fits that same kind of bill this year. David is a 6'8 330 lb guy who moves very well, turns his hips fliudly and is a mauler!
With the 138th pick, the Cincinnata Bengals select Delone Carter, Rb Syracuse
With the 144th pick The Miami Dolphins Select WR Ohio State Dane Sanzenbacher Strengths: Superb concentration to catch the ball in traffic. Finds a way to bring the ball in even if he doesn't snatch it with his hands. Has quick feet and can beat defenders with head and body fakes. Good awareness as a route-runner and knows how to find the soft spots in the defense. Gets upfield quickly after the catch. Can spin out of tackles. Has good awareness of where the defenders are and can avoid contact after the reception. Intelligent player and seems to be in the right place at the right time. Has good pre-snap awareness and calls out blitzing corners for the offensive linemen. I watched Dane 4 years at Ohio State and he made incredible strides every season. Some of the catches that guy made in the Sugar Bowl were insane. He was a team captain for Ohio State and put up some damn good numbers considering WHO was throwing him the ball. His biggest knock is the lack of straight line speed....sounds like something people would say about Welker, Amendola, and Bess. Very happy to add Dane to the Miami Dolphins.
With the 145th pick, the Arizona Cardinals select... T.J. Yates, QB, UNC We only had two QBs on the roster so we were looking for a guy late in the draft and at this point we felt we had to pull the trigger on Yates. In our opinion he is one of the true sleeper's in this draft. We feel at the very least he will be a very good backup, but has a chance to even be a solid starter at some point. He will most likely learn under our two other young, but talented QB's and will have the opportunity to challenge Skelton for the backup job immediately.
With the 146th pick, Green Bay selects: Noel Devine RB WVU
With the 151st overall selection, the Denver Broncos will select... McClain showing what a Gator chomp REALLY feels like. Photo is just for you, Skeet84. Terrell McClain, DT, South Florida
With the 154th pick, the Carolina Panthers select C, Jake Kirkpatrick- TCU We had Kirkpatrick rated as our number 3 center in the draft, and WalterFootball has him rated as their number 2 center in the draft. With a thin interior offensive line, I felt that we needed some depth and competition at the center and guard spot, which I believe Kirkpatrick will be able to provide. Awards: * 2010 All-American (TSN, Walter Camp) * 2010 Rimington Trophy recipient * 2009 All-American (Sports Illustrated) * 2009 All-Mountain West Conference selection * 2009 Rimington Trophy finalist Kirkpatrick started on one of the best offensive lines in the country in 2009. TCU averaged 0.92 sacks allowed per game in 09 (ranked 6th), ranked 7th in total offense, 5th in scoring, and 5th in rushing. He must be doing something right. He will be able to come in right away and compete for a starting job with Jason Spitz at the C position or compete for a backup job at either C or G.
