The Dolphins are zeroing in on several mid-to-late-round speed receivers. SMU’s Aldrick Robinson, who averaged 20 yards a catch on 60 receptions in 2010, is one of a limited number of players who have worked out privately on campus for Miami and was invited to team headquarters. Miami also has had private sessions with Tennessee’s Danarius Moore and Abilene Christian’s Edmund Gates. … The Dolphins summoned two inside linebackers to Davie this week: North Carolina State’s Nate Irving and Washington’s Mason Foster.

I like Jerrel Jernigan of Troy....fast small slot receiver type who can also run back kicks and punts (something we haven't had since Welker left here for New England).

He may not be available - guy is getting lots of second round buzz atm. If he somehow lasts to the third round we would be hard pressed to pass on him.

Nate Irving is a tremendous player...... as is Mason Foster. I'd gladly welcome either one at LB. I think both of them could be a potential upgrade to Clam Chowder.

Nate Irving and Mason Foster are great players. Either could potentially replace Clam Chowder.

If they're targeting speed receivers I'm curious what group of WRs they'll put on the field together. Any chance Atlanta gives up their late first for Davone Bess? I have no problem with Bess, I just think that with Fasano and Marshall entrenched in the lineup, along with perhaps a DeAngelo Williams at RB you have enough short passing options. An inexpensive speed guy might have the same effect Bess does just by stretching the defense better than Bess does. Plus you gain the draft ammunition to finally fix that frickin offensive line.

Atlanta needs a speed receiver to pair with White - just about every pundit out there has someone like Torrey Smith in round 1, or Jernigan/Young or someone similar in round 2. I would say a 0% chance they offer something for Bess considering.

I would trade Bess for a late 2nd if someone offered it to us. Jernigan would be a great compliment in the slot to Brandon.... or you could go Titus Young. These two could give us some flexibility to move our receivers around the field.

Or we could go the San Diego Chargers route and take a big #2 WR to pair with Marshall who can outplay just about any DB on a toss up down field (Greg Little or Jon Baldwin). If that's the case then you get a receiving TE who can take advantage of the soft spots cleared out by the big guys, and we get a COP back who can eat up grass in a hurry underneath with the open field <like Jahvid Best did against us>.

None of us would be mad if Henne dumped passes off to a 4.3 tailback matched up on a linebacker after Marshall, the TE, and #2 WR are running verticals to completely open up the underneath. The Lions used Calvin & Co many times for plays designed to get Best the ball in space. He lit up the Eagles that way. Unfortunately, we need players who are threats vertically to effectively accomplish this.

I dream of the day when our offense capable of beating up on defenses at all levels----short, intermediate, and deep, to where it becomes difficult for a defense to cover us without leaving someone isolated in 1 on 1.

Nate Irving's undersized for our scheme.

That Aldrick Robinson thing isn't true. I spoke to his position coach and he said that Al hasn't been to Davie. Dolphin scouts went to work him out - AS REPORTED IN DRAFT WINDS 8 WEEKS AGO - and did a LOT of work on him catching and fielding punts.

Even with how effective our Dline is up front at stuffing the run?..... and considering how many teams use the spread, speedy COP backs, pass catching TEs etc? I'd rather have him against Brady than some big down hill banger who is limited roaming the field.

Was Zach Thomas undersized for our scheme? I think Irving could be a nice player to groom behind Dansby while still being a contributing role player and stud in special teams. I'm not a fan of having 1 other LB who can play sideline to sideline and help against TEs (outside of a guy who didn't see the field last year due to a serious knee injury). Mason is undersized for our scheme, too, is he not? Yet we've worked him out.
