mike lombardi on path to the draft last night in the draft buzz portion said that there is some concern that mark ingram has a degenerative condition in his knee...

This could put a wrench in our mocks.

He sure looked good in his workouts and drills..

Lombardi also said Sparano was going to get fired and he also said Mike Nolan and most of the defense staff were possibly going to the Cowboys. I don't trust Lombardi that much

Do you have a link? Does the story get more descriptive than "degenerative"? Degenerative could mean something as simple as a little arthritis.

Actually it might help us out. If we are able to trade down like we most-likely want to (to recoup that 2nd), Ingram might stay on the board longer.

    And yea, it is arthritic.

Ehhhhh...... big deal. This regime could care less about players with injury concerns. All this means is we're trading back and taking him in the bottom of the first instead of the middle.

IMO a deadly COP back is one of the most important needs of this offense, so I'm all for Taiwan Jones personally.
Trade back our first. Danny Watkins.... Taiwan Jones.... Jordan Cameron..... Greg Little..... with DeAngelo Williams to top it off.

If the Phins dont take Ingram at 15 he could slip out of the first round. And that has nothing to do with the knee but rather the teams drafting from 16 to 32 arent going to spend a first round pick on a back.

I think this is a real possibility. Just last week we heard that both the Giants and the Pats were interested in Ingram. It doesn't take all that big of a conspiracy theory to see how the New York and Boston media markets might be pumping out misinformation at this point.

I've never subscribed to the fact that we were going to take Ingram. Its is obvious that we need a speedster like Chris Johnson and Jamaal Charles, and not another Ronnie Brown.

I don't see how he's like Ronnie Brown other than the fact he's a powerful runner. That's about where it stops.

Does anyone else find this "report" kinda strange after all the physical exams and research teams have done on Ingram?

I believe that Ingram is what we all "hoped" Brown would be.

He wasnt the same back after his Heisman trophy season and after his injury so I think there may be something to this rumor .

However this is the time of the year when smoke fills our eyes so the timing is suspicious.

I would just as soon pass on him anyway as we can get some good RBs later on in the draft.

I cannot imagine teams coming to this point missing this "revelation" from Lombardi. Did all the doctors at the combine etc just miss it or was it not worth talking about?

IF, for some reason, it was the Phins medical staff coming up with this, I hope it's not the same ones who "examined" Brees.

Yes, The condition was uncovered at the Combine and Ingram is going to run another set of medical exams for teams.

Well, Oakland did take him so I don't know if that counts because its Oakland. They're the same team that took Darrius Heyward-Bey as well as a host of other guys that include Kicker Sebastian Janikowski.

That's pretty funny to me. Ronnie Brown gets injured a lot. The whole point of this thread is Ingram's injuries. I guess now they have two things in common.

My only point was that we need a speedy RB. Mark Ingram is not that dude.

He's only been injured once to my knowledge, not multiple times every year like Ronnie Brown.

Ronnie wasn't injured at all in college, from what I remember. The NFL is tougher. That's what scares people about even single college injuries.

Here's Adam Schefter retweeting Rob Rang from NFL Draft Scout and agreeing with him:

If a 5'9 physical running back carrying 230 lbs of weight (including uni) poses arthritic knee potential, then I'd be a little concerned....... and I wouldn't risk a 1st round pick on him if that were the case.

He's only 215, and I think that's probably at a maximum. And I'm still not sure what arthritic knee potential means at this point. Guys who have had surgery tend to have a little arthritis. At this point, I haven't heard any sort of verification that this is some sort of condition, just speculation. Until we have facts, it's tough to justify concern.

I've developed a lot of respect for Lombardi as an analyst and was not surprised at all to see his name thrown around for GM gigs, but he's also a notorious mouthpiece for when certain individuals in the football community want to say something without really saying something (Parcells, for one). So when I see a guy like Adam Schefter, who probably is well aware of what the prevailing wisdom is on the medical condition of Mark Ingram, come out and say he's not buying the "dropping" talk, I tend to take note.

Not saying Schefter is right here, but this is one of those situations where I'm inclined to raise an eyebrow and consider that this might be a smokescreen.

His name was mentioned for the 49ers GM job in part because he used to be GM of the Raiders, and in part because Jed York was conducting sham due diligence.

We need an inside the tackles running back before any speedy one. There are about 8 of those that can be had in the last part of the draft.

If it means he falls in the draft, and maybe out the first round altogether, and we can trade down to recoup that vital second rounder, this could definitely work out very well for us. Having said that, NE is in a much better position than we are 'cause they've got like a bazillion picks in the first three rounds this year. Rat bastaads.

    how about something different?
    1) lets pick the best value @ 15 on the board regardless of position
    2) use the next two picks to secure the best offensive linesmen available
    3) then pick up our RB & TE in the later rounds
