This is an article I found from a fan on another site..Its news.. Sparano, Ireland, Daboll at Virginia Tech today So I was sitting at track practice inside the fieldhouse at VT today, and halfway through practice I see Daboll, Sparano, and Ireland walk in. I won't go into how excited I was, considering I was the only one who had a clue who they were. But anyways, they did about an hour worth of drills with a couple of Tech's players. Daboll, Ireland, and Sparano ran passing/ receiving drills with QB Tyrod Taylor, RB Ryan Williams, RB Darren Evans, and TE Andre Smith. One of our defensive coaches who I did not recognize was working out CB Rashad Carmichael and DT/DE John Graves. He had Graves doing alot of standup drills trying to catch passes and whatnot. (lets just say he will not be dropping into coverage anytime soon) Take it for what its worth considering I am a Tech student & fan, but Tyrod looked almost perfect. Daboll kept complimenting him and getting excited for him. Ryan Williams looked excellent catching passes and they seemed really impressed with him. Smith had an average workout but I will say he is a sleeper who has alot of potential and isnt getting much press. Evans looked how you would expect... dude is a beast and catches the ball very well for a bigger back. Also would like to say Tyrod catches balls like I've never seen... He would be a hell of a receiver. After the workout was over, Sparano, Ireland, & Daboll spent alot of extra time with Williams & Tyrod. Thats about all ... regretting that I didnt ask for a picture or something...'' end quote.. Tyrod Taylor has not, and will not, budge out of my draft..Ckap, Dalton, Taylor, my 3 targets seem to at least have our regimes attention.. I like the fan when he says Tyrod can catch the ball really well...WCQBX buddy..."fiiiiind your game''..
Thanks Deej. If Tyrod agrees to WCQB along with some other fun packages (maybe even punt returner), then I'm still all aboard. The offense still needs an infusion of athletes and playmakers.
Looking at this guys stats in college, very similar to Pat White (games played, passing yards, INTs) with lower comp percentage and half as many rushing yds. What makes us think that Tyrod won't end up being another wasted pick? Or are you thinking that we can get this guy in 6th or 7th round. If he's not in the last two or three rounds, it's a wasted pick, IMO. let's learn from past mistakes.
I think it's nuts to think that the misuse of Pat White's talents was David Lee's fault. If anything, it's mostly Sparano and Hennings fault. They are the ones that dictate how to use the players on offense. But the bigger point is that we should not have drafted him in the first place. It's not like other NFL teams were knocking on Pat White's door when we released him. Tyrod Taylor fits the same mold, IMO, unless you're going to specifically draft him to play something other than QB. I'd much rather make a serious run at Brad Smith as a free agent than waste another draft pick. Smith is at least a proven commodity.
A big portion of his failure was because of Lee. Heck, Chad Henne hated David Lee. He barely spoke to him at the end of the year. No one liked Lee. Marshall yelled at Lee constantly.
This. Listen I know it's the most ancient and tired response in the world to this kind of information to just chalk it up and say "smoke screen" but based on what I've seen out of Tyrod Taylor in college, live at Shrine practices, in the Shrine game and at the Combine, I cannot, absolutely cannot fathom that HE is going to be their answer to the QB situation. There's something else going on and I don't know exactly what it is, whether it's a smoke screen and they're trying to convince people they love Taylor, or whether they're trying to keep this perception rolling along that they really, really, really want a running quarterback. Or maybe they're really interested in Taylor as a QB-WR convert, a guy like Ireland drafted in Dallas..forget his name at the moment. Jeff thought very highly of him, thought he'd really pan out. Or maybe they were trying to spy Ryan Williams and didn't want to give that away. There are a lot of possibilities, but the LEAST likely one to me is that they're on to Tyrod Taylor as the answer to the QB position.
It seems that the Dolphins have considerable interest in Taylor. IMO it should be only in a Brad Smith type role, as a WR or as a Reggie Bush type. I don't know where he is projected to go, but personally I wouldn't consider him a as QB at all and I wouldn't target him until the 6th or 7th for a slash role. I thought that was the mistake with the White selection. Skill evaluation aside, you simply don't take a a player that you project as a back-up QB that early. If you're taking a QB in the first two rounds you better believe that he has at least a decent chance to be a starter. I personally wouldn't take a QB in the 1st unless I think he has a decent chance to be an elite guy. I wouldn't take a QB in 2nd unless I believe he has a decent chance to be a starter. In fact, I would say that about any position.
Iam keeping my fingers crossed he will..Catching some passes at his proday is a positive sign, but everything ive read says the opposite.. He really has the skillset imo that could define that x position..What I dont understand is why a player would not embrace the role, I mean if this athlete came out and said,'' I wanna do it all, I can do it all, run, return, qb, wc, receiver'', ''and iam gonna put my heart and soul into that diverse position''...shoot, he would make a lot more money in the draft...Than, when he gets to his team, if hes so good and he believes in himself as a proset QB, he would totally be able to prove that and eventually get his shot....Geez man, embrace the WCQBX role TT to start, and prove yourself later...our coaches have eyes, they will know what he can do and give him that shot if he so deserves.
Well, their just different players O, different builds, different instincts, and a different level of pure talent and explosiveness, he's one of the most talented, sudden, electric players in the draft..and hes well built.. I have not seen him projected to go above the 5th round... edit..i mean below..5th round and later is where everyone has him.
Completely agree. The kid is a potential impact player if he says yes to the xfactor role. IMO he has a better shot at grooming into a playmaking WR than he does a QB.
If he doesn't move to wide receiver, he will be a wasted pick. The only difference is, no one is going to be foolish enough to draft him in the high second round.
If it makes you feel better Deej, Taylor did privately work out for Sparano, Ireland and Daboll. There was a film study session, roughly 35 throws, and a lunch meeting. Next up are the Eagles, Skins, and Jaguars...... and he worked out for the Saints and had breakfast with the Chargers.
Hey bud Wes bunting reporting this today.. ''I got a lot of positive feedback on the workout of Virginia Tech QB Tyrod Taylor with the Miami Dolphins. Hearing he could be a mid/late-round option there.''. nobody here agrees with us, lets hope our staff does..
I heard Tyrod interviewed on Moving the Chains by Pat Kerwin and Tim Ryan last week. They told him to stand his ground about being a QB in the NFL. Both thought he was at a completely higher level of QB and athlete than White. TT also thought he was the BEST QB IN THE DRAFT........and he was SERIOUS. He said he was better than Cam also. I dont remember if I saw him play or not, but he was a very well spoken young man. An interesting interview.
I'd rather have Tyrod than Cam. Begin the tomato throwing in 3..............2................1................
so with his skillset in mind, and if we do draft him, how would you use him offensively? including reps at QB?
check out the 2:15 mark.. #23 for Boston College, Jim Noel... Now I thought Williams had pretty decent speed... but Noel, listed as a 6foot 4in 186 pound strong safety runs him down.
