You never know till teams start picking, who woulda thought Marino would have fallen so far, just saying...
Part of that was competition at the position. Its not like EVERY QB that went before Dan was a slouch. These days, top flight QBs just don't last unless you have a LOADED class, and really this isn't it. Newton and Gabbert will be top 10 - probably 5. QB is just to valuable a position these days, you have to take the chance when you get one.
Yo never know. I can see a scenario where he falls out of the top ten. Could be a heavily defensive top ten. Maybe something like this (and, not necessarily in this order): Bowers DE Peterson CB Dareus DT Newton QB Miller LB Green WR Fairley DT Amukamara CB Quinn DE Jones WR Now, the question is...if he falls out of the top ten, then what? Maybe this is what Ireland is thinking. Keep in mind, Minnesota is sitting at #12 and they have a pretty glaring need at the position. Hard to see him getting past them if he's still on the board.
I would not get too excited either way about these type of reports. They could just be giving the appearance of looking at QB's when they are really targeting someone else in the draft. It is a good way to manipulate the draft board and appease the fans into thinking they are at least exploring the option of finding a decent QB through the draft. I am not saying that is whats going on here but it would not surprise me if this is just a bit of showmanship on their part. I really do not see how Henne is not named our starter for at least the first half of the season, if there is a season but it certainly would be exciting to see a young rookie QB leading the offense against defenses that had short training camps and take the field slightly unprepared and with no pro game film on our QB. It might be the formula to Sparano saving his job 1 more season in Miami. My original thought was there was no way any rookie or veteran was going to take the starter job from Henne before the second half of the season. I'm beginning to see it a bit differently now. Imagine if we did get Gabbert somehow and he did deliver on the goods. This season might be the perfect one to throw a rookie right into the line of fire. I don't know if Sparano is ballsy enough to make that kind of switch with the amount of uncertainty that would hang over that kind of move but maybe this is an indication that Sparano is ready to start taking risks. His ultra conservative approach has only gotten us so far but in all honesty, I expect more of the same from him. They will take the safe picks to fill positions of need and probably even use multiple picks to try to fill those spots.
If the class is so bad that he is worth a first then QB's shouldn't be drafted period. This guy is just all over the place.
He looks like a robot. "Well maybe if we tweak this, and raise that, and slow that down, and put some grease and ball-bearings in his shoulder, we could have something here". lol. I'm sorry but throwing shouldn't take that much effort.
Jake's run first mentality early on at Washington ruined him as a QB. He relied on his legs more than his arm, and as such he bulked up too much in order to become a stronger runner. This has destroyed him as a passer. He has less flexibility b/c of it, and the tightness is impairing his natural mechanics. He had more natural whip in his arm as a freshman than he does now. If he wants to become an NFL QB, he'd be smart to drop 6 pounds in his upper body and spend time in a yoga class to help stretch and loosen everything up. If not, the sooner he switches to RB the sooner he'll see the field. His feet are his strength not his arm, and his brain seems to be directly linked to his feet rather than his arm, so he might as well stick to them full time IMO. Heck, I'd rather see him at LB than QB right now. At least he plays with good pad level. lol.
I agree with you. You could see at the combine & senior bowl when Locker was dressed in just shorts & t-shirt he was bigger and more muscular than all the other QB's. He looked more like a LB than a QB.
Yep. Even Quinn would have been worth a shot. Hindsight shows he isn't anything special, but at some point you have to grab your guy and not sort through the rest in rounds 2 and down. I hope we trade up for Newton, I'm not quite a fan of Gabbert's but I wouldn't be opposed to getting him either. The big wild card will be Mallet. Guy has phenomenal talent but serious question marks.
Yep. The Dolphins will NEVER be an elite team unless and until we get a GM/coach with the brains and the cajones to get into the top part of the draft and take a QB high in the first round. Of course, there's the one-in-a-million chance we can find an Aaron Rodgers late in the first, but hell, we haven't even tried drafting one THERE since Marino.
One of the draft magazines had us taking Gabbert with the #15 pick. I cannot remember which magazine said this, but most experts have Gabbert as the first QB coming off the board. The consensus seems to be that Mark Ingram will be our first pick.
That's just b/c everyone around the country still associates us with the wildcat and desire to be a power running team first and foremost. IMO there's a more likely chance we draft a defensive impact player than Ingram. I don't see Gabbert falling from the top 5.
