When a guy makes a play I give them credit, my team or not. But to borrow from tennis, there are unforced errors and there are "winners". A QB being blindsided by a DE/OLB is infinitely more likely to fumble than a RB on a random running play where he is neither stood up and stripped or hit especially hard. Jason Allen didnt magically or luckily become good in Minnesota, he had a good game b/c he was covering Bernard Berrian, who sucks. He reverted back to normal the next week vs Braylon Edwards.

I draw distinctions between guys making plays and unforced errors, that's all we disagree on.

Reminds me of the year RW retired and everyone was saying we'd be OK with the guys we had backing up. Sammy Morris was great right?

<sigh>I think all of this is just talk to give ourselves options on draft day. If they are going after say Ingram they want this to get out.

If they are going after a QB, they want things like Henne working with Daboll to get out even fi it garners a fine. It'll hopefully give them more options at QB if a team that would've taken a QB risks it and thinks we are OK with Henne.

I wont believe much until after draft day.

Nah, RW was a huge part of the offense, as in over 40% or more, they bet the farm on him and he pulled the plug.

This time around there is not the potential for such a surprise.

I don't think I have seen enough of Lex Hillard to really make a call on him. Hillard and Sheets have been kept at arms length because of our depth at the position over the last few years and it's time to really feel them out. I don't think we'll see Williams back in Miami so I guess the big question is if Hillard can fill the role Ricky played last year. Only time will tell.

Did we not learn anything in 2004 with Travis Minor?

Let's see the guy prove something in a game before we go out and make him a starter. Lex has had a few bright spots here and there, but nothing consistent enough to be mentioned as a starter. Yes, the league is a passing league at this point, but you always need to have a stable run game that you can fall back to. And since we're talking about the league being a passing league, anyone broken down Lex's ability at pass protection since that is a huge part of any NFL RB's game these days.

It may be a passing "league", but we're not a passing "team". We're built to run the ball, and when we cant do that, we don't have much to fall back on besides losing games and blaming the QB. Having said that, I see no reason why we would even consider Lex as a first option. We're not the Packers or the Pats, we cant afford to have fringe talent in the backfield. I say we go after a top flight RB, preferably two of them, a rook and a vet. If Lex outplays them, I'll eat crow and we'll have 3 good options at RB, but relying on Lex? Say it aint so Ireland.

I don't see the parallel to that 2004 whatsoever. Our 2010 OLine, as poor as some believe it played, is leaps and bounds better than that 2004 unit. That 2004 was historically inept. I mean you could see from 2003 how poor they were they were Ricky's YPC went down the drain.

I believe with some healthy additions, Nate Garner in particular, some retooling and upgrading the OLine will be dominant again, a la 2009. Behind that type of line, Lex Hilliard can be a very serviceable RB.
