Well, I would take Julio Jones before Ryan Mallett at #15. That dude looked like Superman at the combine on a broken foot. But, If Jones is not there and Mallett is I want us to draft him or trade down.
Vince Young!!!!! With luck, the Qb will be throwing the ball less than 30 times per game, and VY brings the mobility dimension, is free, and is not 38 yrs old. I'm higher on Thigpen then most as well.
I don't have any problem with the signing at all. I just don't believe his true calling is at Center. Plus, the props Wilfork was giving Incognito wasn't playing the Center position, because he didn't line up at Center against NE. His best position was RG with STL and I believe he'd be best served as a RG here as well.
I'm fairly certain he played most of a season at Center for the Rams, as in 90% sure http://bleacherreport.com/articles/240938-a-real-interview-with-rams-tackle-richie-incognito (interview) http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2590383 He started 12 games at Center in 2006. there was a hooplah over the Rams offense that season
I think this is very good move. He has a lot of skills on the OL and can do nothing but help us. This was a positive step toward improving the team.
It'd be easier to put Richie at center and fill guard via the draft rather than finding a plug and play center this draft. If I'm a betting man, Rich is our center.
Correct on all acounts and if anyone has heard of a running back named Steven Jackson, he made the Pro Bowl in 2006 and I am not too much of a stat man but when I checked. With Incognito at center for the Rams in 2006, Jackson had his most productive year since he was in the NFL. It was also the last year Marc Bulger performed anywhere close to what was expected of him and he also made the Pro Bowl for his 2006 season. Incognito , IMO , should have been our starting center since they cut Grove but with Garner hurt, we did not have anyone legit enough to play LG. Here is Jacksons career stats. clearly 2006 was his best year in every single category that is kept. http://hosted.stats.com/fb/playerstats.asp?id=6783&team=14 Same for Marc Bulger, clearly his best year he has had as a pro in yardage and TDs. They also lost Orlando Pace in like the third game that year and had Incognitos backup in at LG and it was Alex" the bust" Barons first year at RT. so Bulger was sacked a lot but still, his best year production wise since he has been in the league. Also, his last year he was even decent. http://hosted.stats.com/fb/playerstats.asp?id=5197&team=33
Ben Roethlisberger is not most QB's though. He, probably more than anyone else, can play behind a lackluster OL. But they drafted Mike Pouncey #1 last year, which helped their interior tremendously. Green Bay has struggled the last few years because their OL got Rodgers beat to hell. But Rodgers is also an elite QB with mobility. And both teams have serious speed on the outside to go with their elite QB's.
I agree, but this draft has many mutli-use OL's listed. Many of the C's are also listed as 's G's too. I am worried about Carey, and they should be too. I think his time is passing us and with this draft being so stout at all OL positions we'd better be on the look out. This draft is an offensive line coaches dream come true. It's a great time to be looking for OL players. Positively talent galore!
How do you know Dabolls offense calls for a lot of pulling ? There are many that do not. I do not know what they do in Cleveland
Good point. Hopefully Daboll will cater the offense to what he has as opposed to Henning who just ran his plays regardless. Ideally, we can put Incognito at RG and let Garner/Jerry (who move better) on the left side. Or we can put R.I. at center and then go out and sign a G to throw into the mix w/ Jerry & Garner. Most importantly we need a couple of backs who can run.
Do you really want to use our first round draft choice on ANOTHER 300+ lb Lineman (O or D) prospect? Don't we have enough of these players on our roster already? We better be looking QB/WR/LB/DB with our first round pick, in that particular order, imo.
Long, new left guard, new center, Incognito, Carey (Jerry & Gardner) with two major draft picks, we can compete in the very worse hypothesis: Long-Gardner-Incognito-JohnJerry-Carey
When has anyone EVER said, that team's O-line is the reason they won the Super Bowl? Good luck with that...
in the very worse hypothesis: Long-Gardner-Incognito-JohnJerry-Carey today was a very good day the trenches have never been glorified, usually ignored & often forgotten however it all begins in the trenches, they are the offensive & defensive foundation of every team Friend Cashinfist said: When has anyone EVER said, that team's O-line is the reason they won the Super Bowl? Good luck with that... agreed & would add: When has anyone EVER said, that team's O-line is the reason they lost the Super Bowl? Good luck with that... & you've made my point
like most other fans, I don't remember the Raiders O-Line in that game or any other & that is my point. very unusual for anyone to dwell on or give credit to an offensive linesmen. the fact that we have a QB, RB, WR's all with names & personalities but refer to the offensive line as an entity speaks volumes. the RedSkins had the Hogs & ... they were referred to as a unit we need quality picks @ Center & Left Guard in this draft
No one, but that's because no one pays a lick of attention to that **** because it's boring to your average fan.
He was really poor in 2010, I believe he was handed one of those de facto "non spoken" benchings under the cover of "illness (you stink right now)". Still think he is a good prospect but he was overmatched for most of 2010, hopefully he is on the Vern Carey career path.
I am really surprised by this. I thought Richie's overall play was just OK. I think his strength is in small spaces when he can quickly get his hands on someone. I recall he looked pretty bad on several plays when picking up the blitz. Pulling may not be his strong-suit, either. It's to his benefit he has the ability to play any interior position, which this regime seems to favor. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised. Because Richie has more 'run' than 'pass' in him, I wonder if this is a sign of things to come? Is this team still going to try to win it in the trenches? Does this mean they'll likely go RB than QB in the draft if given the option? Makes me wonder.....
when has an offensive linesman ever become the face of a franchise? no one can win or lose a difference of opinion. we simply have different opinions. I really don't remember the Raiders 2003 offensive line by name & believe I might not be alone on the forum in not remembering would add: probably are more than one that share my sense of importance & urgency regarding the offensive line, too Long, new left guard, new center, Incognito, Carey (Jerry & Gardner) with two major draft picks to fill the holes, we can compete in the very worse hypothesis: Long-Garner-Incognito-JohnJerry-Carey
Good point...... and IIRC, Dupree, didn't he start off decently in Pre Season? The kid has the skills. IMO he just needed some time for the game to slow down for him a bit and to refine his technique. No big deal.
Am I one of the few people excited about Richie's potential at Center this year with a full offseason at the position under his belt? I'm pegging him as one of the more pleasant surprises of the 2011 season....... that and Greg Little's break out rookie season.
Sure, the issue is whether he plays Center, or Right Guard? If center he should be able to anchor well enough to keep pressure from coming up the middle of the oline.
I am fairly certain that is the way they will go CMax, for all of the talk of Henne he pretty much was the same Qb in 2010 as in 09, if anything he was a bit more unlucky in 2010, the running game just collapsed, from #4 to #22.
Yeah, I think that's where they're headed, but man, do they have the personnel to play that kind of football? It seems to me, gone are the days of holding the ball for 38 minutes/game. Damn I miss the running games of '08/'09. Miss Justing Smiley, and, in some weird way, Jake Grove. I'm wondering what kind of offense Daboll is going to run (from what I hear, something akin to New England's?). Maybe Miami tries to mesh a strong running game with the great underneath/deep stuff they run? I dunno much about offensive schemes, so I'm literally talking (wait, figuratively....yeah) out of my ***. Maybe someone here could elaborate? I personally am not a fan of Incognito, but hey, I will try to reserve judgement until he plays again. I just wish this staff did not play musical chairs with these utility infielders (pardon the baseball jargon) with this interior line. Get a real center and maybe play a bit with the left and right sides, but man, does Miami need a TRUE center. I think if they can get one, this line would be much improved. Even a rookie could come in if it's the right one. I am just not a fan of these guys without true positions. It's nice to have guys that can play any three interior positions in times of emergency, but a guys like Grove and Smiley were true to their positions, and I liked them; esp. Smiley. Sucks he couldn't shake the injury bug.
