In my view, the Sparanophins' "smart, tough, disciplined" lacks something... Bravado, Kajones, the Will to Dominate, mean streak, nastiness Those adjectives and traits less than perfectly describes the SparanoPhins, passionless drones do not play inspired football, the play to avoid mistakes, and a team will never be great until they have some players who are determined to exhibit all of those traits. That inspires other players, something that also rarely happens with the Sparanophins, "down and dirty" does not describe our team..at all, Jeremy Shockey would change that for the offense, of course the defense needs some of that as well, probably more so than the offense does, they play like they are trying to win a decision rather than just knocking opponents out. There is solid speculation that Drew Rosenhaus will ring up Jeff Ireland with a proposal for the Dolphins to add Shockey, to me they should pull the trigger as he and Fasano would be interchangable parts on an offense that badly needs a #2 Te who can produce, in 2010 the #2 te did not catch a pass until Wk #16. Shockey would fill a need.
And he can catch the dinky dunk pass. (Well most of the time he catches them). I would still say no. IMO he's a #2 TE and we already have one in Fasano.
Well, my thinking is Henne played his best in 09 when we had 2 Te's who both were threats in the passing game, and he is a Vet and you tend to know what you are getting with him, not that I'm down on Shuler/Mastrud/Epps, but we have a role for a #3 Te and with Shockey's injury issues they still will get reps in games. FWIW, I think Mickey Shuler is a player to watch in 2011, he is probably my favorite sleeper for this season.
Pod, I see what your saying, we need all the help in the dept of emotion we can get, especially in our stadium, but I also believe your not gonna get the production your thinking of, this player is severely on the downside.. He is from the U and I wouldnt be mad if it happened.. Tell me what your seeing in the Shuler kid..you got some tape?
I don't think its a good idea for this team. The Phins don't need anyone past their prime, even if it is an upgrade.
But I think such a move would be to flashy for Ireland, I suspect Ross had to literally have a hired goon put Ireland in a headlock and force him to call Denver to trade for Brandon Marshall. At some point Deej, you have to trade in the Pickup truck for the Mercedes. Nah, just a novel thing called a "hunch".
Sparano would just neuter him like he does everyone else......not saying we don't need another TE but the attitude you're looking for needs to be inspired or at least supported by the HC, not some FA TE.
I used to find myself disagreeing with most of your material, but lately I've been finding myself agreeing... maybe Kyle Orton or Vince Young wouldn't be so bad after all. Astounding...anyway.... I think Shockey would be a good low-risk investment, at the bare minimum, for his leadership.
Now which team wouldn't want it to be known that they are looking at Shockey, they would have to be really paranoid and...
Um....no Pay attention, that was Nolan's defense....and if you don't think Sparano instilled a "playing scared" mentality on the offense. then once again I say.......pay attention
Let me preface this by saying I'm all for them signing Jeremy Shockey in the right circumstances, that he'd be a fine receiving option and a decent fallback if the host of younger, better tight ends due to be free agents don't make it to the market, and he might be a very cost effective option. But Jeremy Shockey is an ***-hole, he's not a spark. If he's got the "will" to dominate, he hasn't found it necessary to apply this will in years. Go find me the last game he dominated in the game log here. The last time I see was a single game vs. Dallas in 2007, and before that the last time he was dominant for any real amount of time was 2005. A "mean streak" is a phrase typically applied to blocking in football parlance. There's nothing "mean" about Shockey's blocking unless you are using it in the adjective form described as "low in quality, value, or importance; paltry; poor; inferior: now usually in negative constructions" If anyone exemplifies what you're talking about, it's Brandon Marshall. Someone who will be so aggressive in getting off the jam he's sometimes penalized for being too violent. Someone will the will to dominant who actually shows it, who holds the single game record for receptions. Not David Martin circa 2008 with a ****ty attitude.
Joey Haynos actually, he had 2 TD's and 13 first downs. Granted with Daboll in at OC, things maybe will change but right now a proven #2 Te would be a good edition.
http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...key-interested-in-joining-miami-dolphins.html Well, bring him in for a physical and if he passes offer a 1 yr "show me" deal.
From Ireland's pre Combine presser: Acorn baby, to whole question with him is his health and contract desires.
Yep, were was the accountability among the players on the defense? That happened all season long and it was never fixed to me that says there was a lack of leadership and esprit de corps, which is why a guy like Sanders or especially Atogwe would make sense for us as they are both leaders and Atogwe is a ballhawk and that sort of thing is infectious on a unit. That spirit was also lacking on Special Teams.
If only Sparano hadn't made them so scared of dropping the interceptions, that they ended up dropping them.
Well, to me the players themselves did a bad job of policing up those drops, the players know the coaches are going to scream at them either way, what they really do not like is when their teammates get on them for screwing up and not taking advantage of opportunities.
So the whole DB unit just happens to have terrible hands? Nobody noticed that when they were being scouted and evaluated?
sometimes, things happen. Do teams that play Sanchez so intimidated by Rex Ryan that they drop interceptions?
The biggest issue by far and away is his attitude. He might have grown up, or he might just be out of the media because he really isn't good enough that anyone cares enough to justify his antics being reported on.
I'm all for signing Shockey. He's only 30, and I do believe he could well be somewhat re-born back in Miami. He brings a "altitude of attitude" to the team, something we really need on O.
What is the downside of bringing him in? Jerod Mastrud losses reps? If he shows his *** then he can easily be waived, no harm, no foul.
