Quarterbacks make teams better than cornerbacks. Now, regardless of whether it’s Cam Newton or Blaine Gabbert or Ryan Mallet, the QB position is more important than the CB position. We drafted two CBs in Vontae and Sean because we thought we had the QB position settled with Henne. We didn’t. Back to fundamentals: get the quarterback.

If we can sign Nnamdi somehow, hell yeah, do it. Guy’s one of my three favorite corners in the NFL. But then don’t sacrifice Will Allen or someone else just in a trade up to draft Patrick Peterson. That level of negligence is a fireable offense. Get the quarterback.

I'm with you, this time lol. Soliai needs a contract & Wake needs an extension. Get Santonio in here ASAP, Brad Smith too if you can. Then look to the draft to fill out the RB & OL spots. Fixing the running game has to be priority one, b/c we don't exactly have Dan Marino at QB so IMO our quickest path to being a contender is the Jets' mode (defense/running game).

I'm not a fan of signing Manikins though, he'll cost 10+million and that would mean close to 10% of our salary cap is being spent on Long, Mankins & Carey, which is unacceptable IMO. I'd rather go with Pouncey or Wisniewski in the 1st round, much cheaper w/o a huge drop in talent. I'd rather spend that dough on Asomuga. Even if we don't get him, one of the benefits of him being a FA is that Johnathan Joseph and Cromartie could be cheaper buys & I'd love to have one of those guys if the price is right. Cutting ties w/ Grove, Smiley, Wilson, Ginn, Porter, Taylor, Ricky & Ronnie, plus erasing Will Allen's salary should have us in a very favorable situation cap wise. If we draft well and make a few well placed FA additions I think we'll have a considerably better roster 6 months from now.

I preach thiings like this all the time.

This is a good year to get some lineman and a solid Rb. Should be plenty in the early rounds and some gems late. I see 4-5 quality lineman they could grab early and I'd only want Mankins if they could afford, which is unlikely, but he is good enough and young enough to put him in and not worry about that position for a few years...

No doubt this guy is a great player and would make our defense better.......however, we have a lot more pressing needs and unless the salary cap is gone its doubtful we are really pursuing this guy. If our offense was able to score consistently we'd be a quality playoff team, our young defense is really good, a 30 year old Cb isn't going to push this team over the top without a Qb, quality Oline and running game so it doesn't really make a lot of sense.

Don't ask me why but I just have a gut feeling we are quietly looking into Flynn. Just feels like the route this org. goes to me. As far as adding Nnamdi, I'm all in.

Adding Asomugha would make this D better, but adding a backup rushing LB, a returner and a backup NT would make better use of the money it would take to add Asomugha, and likely have a greater impact on the team than just adding a shutdown corner. If we are going to spend a boatload of cash, let's first lock up guys like Soliai then go after a serious contender for interior OL. It doesn't appear as though Mankins is going to be available, but someone that ilk would suit me fine...

Bottom line. If you have the ability to get one of the top 1 or 2 players in the league at any position you take him. With Davis and Aso nobody would be able to pass the ball on us....nobody. This addition alone would catapult our defense from the good to great catagory and take a lot of pressure off of the offense.

Thephinsider has an article discussing the article that Lombardi wrote. It says that we have $103.1mil locked up in players for 2011 right now. I don't know how many players that is, but that should leave us around $30-35mil I'm to play with this off season. (I also don't know if that counts the Will Allen paycut)

We still have quite a few key free agents as well we may need/want to resign. I would honestly take Nmandi in a heartbeat, even if he costs $15mil, but I don't see how we have the space to resign our guys, then still have enough money to get some offensive playmakers in FA and the draft.

I really hope, though, that we cut Benny Sapp. That's just a wasted $2 million contract. Do we owe Sapp any money?
