The Dolphins interviewed him. I saw it on the scout.com blog. I can find the link somewhere, but the part of who the Fins interviewed and what transpired you needed to subscribe to Dolphins Digest for.
For me it depends on where they were. If a player was at a lower division, I want to see how they compare physically to better players on the same field. In that case I'll probably give more weight to this week. If they were in a different system then I'm looking at the skills that he hasn't demonstrated before. So I will probably give those skills more weight this week, but I'll give more weight to the skills he demonstrated during the year(s) that I believe translate to the NFL. If it's a player at the same level, who played in an NFL-style system then other than some specific issue with his surrounding talent or coaching, I'll give more weight to the previous year(s).
My guess is that Miami will be focusing on the performances of these guys quite a bit. They seem like exactly the kind of players that Ireland has been talking about adding.
Pauline day 3 report, the running back from Nebraska and tight end might interest us? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...l-2011/01/26/senior.bowl.wednesday/index.html
i never got it either. all season long the guy's been a 1st round prospect supposedly but I just never saw it. He must have great athleticism but it just doesnt seem to translate to his game
I know for a fact that Miami targeted and talked to every RB and TE in Orlando, so I'd imagine they also targeted and talked to every RB and TE in Mobile as well.
I agree with the exception of Hankerson. I love him, but he's not exactly the deep threat they're looking for. He will get deep in the NFL sometimes just like Wayne gets deep sometimes, but I don't think he'll be a guy that defenses gameplan for as a vertical threat. It's too bad because I'd love to see him as a Dolphin, but he gives you a lot of the same things that Hartline and Marshall give you. A guy like Young on the other hand is exactly what they're missing.
Bailey would flash every now and then and make plays but the lack of consistency from players from the Shannon Regime was all over his game, to me he is a late #2 to mid #3 type of pick, the sort of player the Eagles would draft now that they have landed Titans Dline Coach Washburn.
The thing with Bailey is he's a big freakishly athletic kid. The last guy in that mold from Miami was Calais Campbell except Campbell wasn't the athlete Bailey is. Campbell went in the 2nd round and has done a pretty good job in the NFL. You have to take into account that they had pretty poor coaching at Miami and that didn't really allow them to grow as players. It may take some time for Bailey like it did with Campbell, but you can't teach that kind of athleticism. He obviously has bust potential, but he could also turn into a pretty good player. On a similar note two guys I wouldn't mind the Dolphins taking a flyer on are Demarcus Van Dyke and Ryan Hill. Neither were very good in college, but both are big, athletic corners that could turn into something with proper coaching. Just look at what Sam Shields did this year. I obviously wouldn't spend a high pick on either, but later on it might be worth while. I really think people don't realize just how poorly these guys were coached in college.
Heyward will likely drop into the 2nd if he cant do the combine or workout...could be a VERY good pick at that point for a team.
I know. He wasn't very good in college. But neither was Shields. That quote from the Packers secondary coach though about how amazed he was at the lack of knolwedge of how to break down game film and how to game plan sticks in my mind. DVD was a pretty highly recruited player if I remember correctly and has the measurables you like. Again, I wouldn't use any kind of high pick on him, but in the late rounds it might be worth while. And yes, I was talking about his height. He's 6'1''.
He was the next big Miami corner and then he fell flat on his face. They played zone and he got lost.
But how much of his struggles were because of a lack of coaching? Obviously that's not something either of us can answer, but seeing how some other 'Canes defensive players that failed to stand out in college have done well once they've gotten to the NFL, he might be worth giving a shot.
I think quite a bit but as you say, don't really know. You have to wonder how Brandon Harris got so good though.
Interesting prospect 24/7, Shields was a UDFA who made it in Green Bay, this yr because of the CBA no UDFA's can be signed which means once the CBA is signed there will be a sort of "second draft' where all of those UDFA's will sign with the highest bidder. I suspect he will be a UDFA but the trick to me is whether or not he is motivated enough to keep in football shape during the period between the Draft and the CBA being signed..and hopefully Ireland and the Scouts have themselves ready for one that second draft happens.
I think he has a shot to get drafted. He did get invited to the Senior Bowl. That is an interesting thought about what happens with UFAs though. I'm still holding out hope (maybe too optimisticly) for a resolution by the draft.
