Here's a game by game QB rating of Henne vs opposing QB's.

    1- Bills- Henne- 76, Edwards- 73- W

    2- Vikes- Henne- 106, Farve- 44- W

    3- Jets- Henne-91, Sanchez- 121

    4- Pats- Henne- 81, Brady- 107

    5- Pack- Henne- 82, Rogers- 85- W

    6- Pitt- Henne- 94, Ben- 132

    7- Cinci- Henne- 69, Palmer- 63- W

    8- Balt- Henne- 48, Flacco- 130

    9- Titans- Henne- 91, Young- 60- W

    10- Bears- Thiggy- 63, Cutler- 65

    11- Raider- 100, Gradkowski- 64- W No marshall

12- Browns- 38, Delhomme- 97 No Marshall or Hartline

    13- Jets- 58, Sanchez- 45- W No Hartline

    14- Bills- 87, Fitz- 99 No Hartline

    15- Lions- 72, Hill- 108 No Hartline

    16- Pats- 26, Brady- 145 No team

In looking at this, did we win or lose games because of Henne? How much did opposing QB's lighting up our D have to do with losses? How much had to do with surrounding talent on O, like not having Marshall, Hartline, a running game and other injuries? Was there too much dependence on Henne, in his second year of playing?

Or, was everything mostly his fault, and he just cannot play in the NFL?

We cant win every game with 14 points. Until we have an offense that can move the ball past the 25 yard line we will lose a lot of games. Henne did in fact cost us a few games. The Cleveland and Detroit games were all his fault. He threw clutch interceptions with the score tied at the end of each of those games, handing the opponent a victory. Exchange those for a game winning FG drive, and reverse the pittburgh game, and we're looking at 10-6 while saying Henne is our guy.

They put the blame on Henne then gave him the hook.
Killed his confidence then went back to him.
Gave him his job back blamed him again and then threw him under the bus in front of the world. Henning calling out his QB to the media.
Henning and Lee are idiots. No wonder the young QB was so erratic.
Gave him no help with the run game and Henne played on a whopperjawed knee cap.
No help from Marshall on YAC
It would be disastrous not to give this guy another shot. Hopefully in a more stable environment.
    Last season was a maelstrom.

If his ball placement was better, Marshall could've gotten more YAC. Plus, do you REALLY consider the Dolphins as currently constructed, a "stable" environment?

funny, Henne had a higher QB rating than his counterpart twice, and two of those other QBs have been discussed as potential replacements (VY and Palmer).
I know it means nothing to compare QB ratings in one game, but kind of shows how there is crap available on the market, and IMO, we should just stick with Henne and draft a QB.

2.8 avg. YAC...... I could catch the ball turn around and fall down and top that and yes the environment on offense will have more stability without that stubborn bastard Henning and his idiot sidekick Lee.
I could piss a better offense than those two can run.

Can we say the same of our D, as well as they played. giving opposing QB's a rating of 97 or better in half our games?

    Don't even start on ST's. That's Padre's turf. JK/LOL

"Maelstrom & whopperjawed?" This is not scrabble or Burger King. Shane's description, in Replacements, says the same and easily more understandable. Vocabulary improvement is a good thing.

Yeah, and if Marshall would not have had all the drops, and not quit on a few routes, Henne would have looked much better. It is a two way street.

The grass is always greener for some.

I'm not a huge fan of the guys in the draft outside of Gabbert, but I'd rather take a shot on one of them than Palmer or Young. Especially Young. He has almost no redeemable qualities IMO. And no, "He just wins games" isn't a tangible quality. He has 10 other guys on the field with him.

Six of seven wins Henne had the better rating, and lost by 3 points to Rogers. He is not a Marino, and needs some help.

Only one problem with your theory. QB ratings are pointless and tell us nothing about how good a QB really is.

If pulling him was a mistake that wasn't the reason. This isn't college, let's hope Jeff Ireland drafts and brings in men to be on this team and not crybabies. I don't believe it anyway because his next two games of action after the benching were probably the best he played all season. It's easy to see some of the ways he was victimized by poor coaching but as far as 'killing his confidence' - he can man up and get to work or hit the road as far as I'm concerned. The NFL is no place for people who are unsure of themselves. But once again, why would he play well and then regress? Was the death of his confidence on some kind of time delay?

I think Henne is in trouble because a new coach wasn't brought in. He may have the ability to be a good NFL QB but I'm not sure if we'll ever find out. Can any of these new offensive coaches undo the damage Sparano and company have already done?

Can we please try to remember that there was no running game to speak of in Miami this season and on multiple occasions we heard that opposing players were able to call out the plays we were going to run simply based on how we lined up? With being benched then activated then injured then activated then benched then activated then benched then activated again, being called out in the media by damn near every coach on this team plus Parcells, no help from his backs, AND that kind of predictability on offense how exactly did we expect Henne to succeed? Can we finally all agree that the failures of 2010 were a collective team effort from top to bottom and not just the fault of a second year starter at QB who was set up to fail?

If the team hadn't gone into its shell as soon as it got within scenting distance of the red zone, and not played to assure the field goal instead of charging ahead and striving for the touchdown, there would have been a lot more than 14 points a game scored quite often. You could almost see it and sense it even on television. "Oh, we're close enough... For Heaven's sake tell Henne not to take ANY chances that might cost us field position! Play it safe! Check Down! A field goal is not a failed touchdown drive... it's a success because we got some points!!"

That kind of thinking seemed to be as predictable as rain falling downward. I am worried now that whatever chances Henne may have had to become a NFL calibre quarterback are now forever buried by the avalanche of trepidation which seemed to flow from the play-calling. I fear that damned 3-second buzzer may be so firmly implanted in his subconscious that only the Lord God Almighty might be able to rid him of that plague... Henning should have had his tookus kicked so hard that his chair seat would need to be 4' tall for the next 10 years...

    I can refer to PFF. Henne had positive grades in game 1, 2, 3 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 15 , and 16. Negative grades were 4, 5, 13, 14 and 17. Take that for whatever it's worth.

If you have a better way, I would really would like to know it. I do not.

Of course, you all do realize that this form of conversation will obviously bring out the instant-gratification seeking blamestorm troopers as soon as one of them reads this thread. We will then, if things run true to course, be inundated almost immediately with accusations of being blind, ignorant, apologists for the worst waste of skin in human history masquerading as a NFL quarterback...... not in those words of course, but along those lines.

QB ratings aren't perfect, but every champion since 1940 has had a better pass rating than their opponents through the regular season or during the playoff run. I agree that they don't necessarily tell you how good a QB is b/c the system has a huge impact on the results. But they do seem to be good indicator whether or not you have a chance to win.

I do think that part of the reason Henne's ratings dropped at the end was the loss of Hartline. He was the closest thing we had to an element that could stretch the defense. We became much easier to defend after he was gone.

Good point. I would add Henne being familiar with Hartline more so that with Marshall. They were clicking for about a month before Hartline's injury.

When did I say that he quit or gave up. So you think the only time a player loses his confidence is when he shuts it down on his own doing. That is ludicruous. This coaching staff jerked this guy around so hard his head was swimming. That was easy to see. Also easy to see that Henne couldn't control it. Do you think a young QB is going to tell Dan Henning how to do his job. Hell no. Henne had to deal with the guys ego and roll with it. Sure Henne has some accuracy issues but when did Lee help him fix it . I'm not sure Lee would even know how to fix an NFL QB. That is how you lose confidence. When no one else believes in you and blames you for all that is wrong your confidence can go south willingly or not. Call it mental toughness if you want but it happens to all types of players in every sport and to normal people in the real world.

Then why do ALL of the better QB's in the league have the best QBR's?

QBR is not the end all be all, but it's a good, quick way to judge a QB.

With a big enough sample size it's an ok stat. Not great, but solid. Where it works is if you compare it amongst other QB's.

BTW, I was just on NFL.com looking at all the QB stats and comparing Henne's to all the other starting QB's in the league. He's on average ranked from 17-19 in just about every category, save for TD's. You know who is consistently ranked at about 22-25 in every category? Yup, Mark Sanchez. CAN OF WORMS OPENED.

I think Henne's rating reflect the team overall.....

You notice as the offense started to fall apart.....it was many players whos performance level dropped...not just Henne's....

That points out two things to me....

Henne is NOT the type of QB that will bring a team UP....but he is a very good quarterback when he has the pieces in place...and the team is jelling.....

Last season things just kinda blew up offensively....players and Henne obviously...got frustrated....especially with Henning. Lets see how Henne responds...

I find it coincidental that the last 5 games of the year is where he took a dive....... and the last 5 games of the year our oline was the most decimated, our ground game averaged about 80 yards/game, and our WR & TE corps was the most hampered as well (including having to play 2 outmatched practice squad receivers as our #3 & #4..... and a practice squad TE as our #1 the last game).

I wish people would realize this is a team game and that QBs cant do it all by themselves.

I don't know that I would say "very good", but I do think the results last year were reflective of the whole offense. I think that with enough pieces and a better system he would have easily been a mid 80s rated QB. That's basically what he was for the first half of the year, so that's hardly a stretch. That would be better than playoff QBs like Sanchez and as good as Flacco (although I do believe that those two have more upside). In no way do I see Henne as "the answer" but I do think you can win with him until you find something better. A player like Sanchez is proof of that. I could easily see Henne having Eli Manning like success.

Quick warning this is more than a little off topic.

I think that QB rating needs to find a way to include rushing yards. Not that a lack of them could hurt you, but that rushing yards per carry be added in some how. Does anybody agree with me here? I just think that to get a more complete view of a QB we should include this aspect.

Eh, are we to give RB's credit for throwing the ball?

The thing is if you start including rushing yards, it will falsely show someone like Vick to be a great QB.

I definitely get what you're saying, my one point was just that it shows the players impact to the game and no doubt Vick impacts the game. I mean really it wouldn't bump it up that much over the full year it would just bring him from 100.2 to 107. The main thing it would do is show the plays a QB made in the game.

If you watch successful 2nd year QBs you'll see a direct relationship to the running game, case in point Henne's performance at the Raiders was backed by the best running the Fins did all year.
Matt Ryan without a running game looked as bad or worst than Henne, how did Sanchez looked when the Jets couldn't run the ball.
Young QB no running game = disaster

exactly. this was very evident in the home buffalo game. we moved the ball very well on our final drive. but once we got into field goal range (which was what we needed for a win), the play calling changes. BTW why would you run a draw on 3rd and 1? To give time for the hole to close? Carpenter may have missed 4 FGs in that game, but 3 of them were really long because of Dan Henning and his dumb *** play calling.

I think it needs to include what the QB does with the ball when he doesn't pass. If a QB takes a ton of sacks, that's obviously a negative. If a QB takes off and runs for positive yards that would be a positive. Those passer impacts aren't included in the current QBR. So IMO a true passer rating would include everything that a passer does with the ball other than hand off.
