    Let's see what happens.

Younger guys being promoted might mean more 'current' ideas and philosophy.

Just have to hope they focus on fundamentals and can teach.

If we're going to be family-run, why not offer Mrs. Henne the QB coach job.

Get your son to put up or shut up.

    Synchronized fist pumps!

Eh, kid is going to be a gofer.

I suspect we could land Orton, Avery and DJ Williams for our #3 pick and Crowder and people would still complain.

I find it hilarious that the son of the guy who was nearly fired is brought in for Quality Control. Sparano is letting his dong hang here.

I think he's just trying to get as much money he can for his family from Mr. Ross after he embarrassed him like he did. Hit Ross in the wallet.

Phins hire Tony Sparano Jr. as Offensive Quality Control Coach

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/01/26/fins-announce-changes-to-coaching-staff/

While I have no problem with a coach giving a job to his son I think it should at least be at a proper position or the son to have some type of experience to gain a higher position.

Out of all the things people have been saying we've done this offseason that embarrasses the organization, this one to me is the one that just stands out as absurd and ridiculous.

The sum total of Tony Sparano Jr's. pedigree for obtaining this job is:

Played Defensive End for 3 years at a small college
Asst. Defensive Line coach in the UFL.

    That's it.
Now he's a "Offensive Quality Control Coach" in the NFL?

This is like a bad soap opera.

qlty control coach is really an intern like position. they arent really fundamental to a team. I have seen teams with as many as four qlty ctrl guys on their staffs and as little as zero. Generally what they do IIRC is break down film of opponents and help position coaches in practices. They usually last only one or two years before they move on to a position coach job. Could be wrong and maybe they do more though

Youre probably right and my initial reaction was probably overboard but it just struck me the wrong way.
Especially considering the kids hisotry has been on the defensive side of the ball. At least make him Defensive Quality Control Coach so there's at least some logic to the hire. I don't blame him for wanting to give his son a shot but with the microscope on him and all the pressure to improve the offense he sees this as a good idea?

His job is most likely to record snaps and help with the scout team.

There are many coaches who have experience at both side of the ball.

Not that I'm defending this, but I wonder how many folks here would have complained about Don Shula hiring his sons when they had smiliar experience.

    Just saying, that's all.

The quality control job is an entry-level position. This is where lots of coaches break in and pay dues. It is an integral part of the staff (otherwise the position wouldn't exist), but they are not position coaches or guys putting together a game plan.

These guys who do things like track tendencies of opponents, as they break down film and do some advanced scouting, so to speak. So their work does indeed helps from a game-planning standpoint.

I don't think it matters too much which side of the ball Tony Jr. played on in this role. He's seen offenses and defenses attack and react to each other.

And as Sr. said himself, he's been in dad's hip pocket for a long time and has already spent summers in Davie breaking down film.

The nepotism thing is overblown here. It's an entry-level position and wouldn't register more than a blip if the last name wasn't 'Sparano'. ;) But like with many walks of life, relationships are huge in getting your foot in the door. The NFL is no different. It's size makes it an even smaller fishbowl. Almost every coach in the league broke in thanks to someone else.

Yeah, it is. Tony Jr. wouldn't have gotten a job anywhere else with a resume that thin.

You're probably right. I wouldn't have the job I do today if I didnt know the owner of the company's daughter. But you know what, last year I was the top sales guy here in a career year. Sometimes, some people just need the right break. You never know what can happen when you give someone a chance.

People need to chill out. Its not like we hired this guy to be the OC. It's really not that big of a deal folks. It's an entry level position anyways. I'm sure nobody in the league that has this position now had much of a resume before getting the job. I'm sure nobody can even name a quality control guy on any other team in the league. Really, who cares? Oh wait... the whiners and complainers because he has the same last name as our boneheaded head coach

    Moving along..
