Regardless what people think about your suggestion, you certainly provided a great deal of information about this guy. Appreciate it and I'm intrigued.

 

how many nfl style defenses did he play at nevada? not many

 

i won't say he was elite .... but the 2 games i watched that had NEV playing .... dude is a winner: NEV wouldn't have had a chance without this guy. the only 2 QBs i am interested in this years draft are both winners .... Dalton and this guy (Kaepernick); and despite the press he's getting now - both are sort of long shots for the NFL.

If Kaepernick got the attention and 'help' that Tebow got ... who knows where he'd be right now .... but i think he has MORE talent than Tebow! (and i'm not a big Tebow fan - but DEN sure loves him)

 

The question with Colin is how much of his success was due to the system? Ault runs a quirky pistol offense which isn't what Colin will run in the pros. Ault's system is one that tends to inflate his QB's stats and hide their deficiencies. This is something similar to what happens with the Tedford QBs. So guys like Harrington can be over drafted, but it doesn't mean they can't be talented like Rodgers. I'm not sure on Colin yet. He is clearly a winner and I agree that UNR would have been nothing without him this past year. I really want to see him in the Senior Bowl against better competition. And I want to see how he does at the combine. With players like this you want to know that their athleticism and talent is on the same level as the big school guys, that they just didn't look good b/c of lesser competition or b/c of their system. Tebow was mentioned above and he was able to show he was a compelling talent in those venues. People criticized his Senior Bowl, but you can't expect a guy to look polished and not make errors when he's learning a new system. But Tebow did show the physical talent to play in that system. And people keep saying that Tebow isn't a compelling athlete, but he was clearly one of the best QB athletes at the combine. IMO he has that Big Ben like ability to shrug off hits and extend a play. He isn't nearly as polished of a passer, but that ability is rare. I want to see if Colin can flash that elite level of athleticism during the pre-draft stuff.

 

Geeze. We have progressively gotten more desperate over the past couple of months. First, it was Fin fans wanting us to trade up to get Andrew Luck. Then, it was Fin fans wanting to go after a veteran in FA or trade (Orton, Palmer, McNabb, Vince Young, etc...). Then, everyone wanted Cam Newton. Now you guys want Colin Kaepernick? The same guy that lived in a pistol offense at Nevada. The same guy that dominated teams like Eastern Washington and Idaho, then was exposed against teams like BSU, BYU, and Hawaii.

No thanks. I'll say the same thing I said about Cam Newton. If he is available in the 5th round, then I wouldn't mind us taking him. But, as early as the 2nd round pick for this much of a question? No thanks...we have a lot more pressing needs. Especially when odds are, he won't be able to beat out Chad Henne no matter what. Henne really isn't this bad guys.

I was not impressed with him in the bowl game vs BC (a team missing a lot of players). A 2nd round pick sounds like the White hype all over again. The focus has to be on making the base offense work, not figuring out who can make the wildcat go.

 

I can say I don't see a 2nd round prospect in Colin. My guess at this point is that he's worth the gamble in the 4th.

And I don't see looking at a prospect like Colin as an act of desperation. I think its the realization that this isn't a great QB year. After Luck opted out, I don't think there's a prospect in the draft or FA who is clearly going to be an upgrade over what we have. While it would be silly to pass on a good QB prospect when you don't have an elite QB (e.g. passing on Brees b/c you have Fiedler), it also silly to reach for a lesser QB prospect simply b/c you have a need (e.g. taking Joey Harrington with the third pick).

 

If I haven't said so, welcome to the forum. I'm glad you are here with us. You are valuable to this site. I am with you in thinking Miami would be a good place for Kaepernick. I would like to see what he does between now and the draft but I think he may be a steal.

 

No, because of our history with 2nd round + later QBs. I'll believe one can lead us deep into the playoffs when I actually see it.

 

You do have a point. I just seem to like this player much better than Jake Locker.

 

I think Kaepernick could be a good pro QB if a team lets him sit and develop, but that delivery is just too funky for me. He's gotta clean that thing up.

 

I dont see much there to get excited about. Seems like an everyday college QB.

kid is way more of an athlete than tebow .... Tebow was a work out machine, get this guy in a weight room and add a few pounds -- then let him sit the bench and develop for 2 years .....

Nevada alumni here so I would love to see Kaepernick on the Dolphins. Athleticism will NOT be a question mark with him. Only Newton can compare to him running the football. He may be the best QB throwing on the run. He was drafted by the Cubs (if I remember correctly) b/c he throws in the 90s. He can throw a laser down the field against his body on the run with arm strength alone. The question with Kaepernick is his delivery. He winds up when in the pocket. He may get stripped of the football a bit when in the pocket. He can also carry the football a little loose when on the run, but athleticism will not be a question. He will probably be at the top of the charts in nearly every category at the combine.

As a freshman Kaepernick led the Wolfpack to a triple OT loss to Boise St...the final score 69-67.

 

If Miami were to continue to run the wildcat Kaepernick would be ideal. Also, don't be surprised to see a package in which Kaepernick runs "The Pistol" in the pros.

 

That is enough to convince me to draft him.

sounds like you've watched him a great deal, did he ascend after that magnificent performance as a freshman?

His delivery bothered me to the point where I didn't study him enough, however Hurricane has made me take a closer look...

If were thinking wildcat pistol offense for the future, and we are to interpret our coaches and owner's wishes of having a creative and explosive offense, I'am not against drafting the kid.. i'am all about this type of QB this year.
