Yes because we KNOW that teaching and coaching have very little if any effect on a player.
The amount of time one coach may personally put into focused development of a player changes nothing about his development. Throwing a player out on a field with little guidance will produce the exact same results.

Your disregard for the impact of coaching is astounding.

The point is that he IS on our roster.
The franchise loses NOTHING in having Daboll work with him trying to salvage the kid.
As long as they bring in competition to push Henne and hopefully draft a QB all of you that are convinced Henne is the worst QB ever should be happy and not care what they do with him.

    Which they should.
Again looking for challengers for the QB job is not one in the same as them giving up on Henne.
Obviously he regressed this year. So they are assessing what they can do to get him back on track while planning to bring in others. That's exactly what they should be doing. You hedge your bets until you find the right guy.

Ryan Clark's INT. Tramon Williams' end zone INT and Pick 6. Who threw those passes? Hmmmm. I really think this 23 guy is forum staffer who trolls around saying things just to drum up conversation.

What aspect of Henne's game would you say regressed this year?

I think our whole offense regressed this year and if that is so then should Henne get all of the blame. Seems to me we once had a pretty good ground game but that seems to have regressed a lot this year. Henne may be a bust but I would hate to give up on him and he go elsewhere and become a good QB, like a few others in NFL history. I agree about bringing in competition I just don't want us to commit some of the blunders in recent years such as Feely, Culpepper and others.

would you rather I say failed to progress?

I was just throwing a bone to the negative crowd.
I don't know that he actually did regress.
I think he just failed to make progress this year.
He had issues in certain situations and against specific defenses.
Things you'd honestly expect from a young QB.

Hence the heated debate from those that think Henne just isnt any good and has no hope versus those that think the book is still open on him and that coaching/scheme hindered his growth.

There is not another team in the NFL that would give him a shot at the starting job. Only Killerphins can argue this and I can't agree on anything he says.

I'd bet money that teams like the Cardinals, Raiders, Panthers, maybe Broncos, Redskins, 49ers, and maybe the Bengals would consider Henne as a starter

Just asking man. I agree with you, IMO he didnt "regress" (or progress much either), but it's repeated so much until no one challenges it anymore. No one ever says Henne got worse at this, or that specific thing though. I've seen your posts, you're not a lynch mob guy at all, so when you said regress I wondered what you meant.

Exactly what did you expect him to say. "I hate the fact that I am stuck with Henne as the QB on this team and we have no speed or play makers". Of course he was going to say the things to excite the fans and have those gullible enough, actually buy into this coach speak. Only time will tell if he can do anything revive the offense. The only thing I am sure of is that no matter what Daboll says about Henne right now. It is Sparano and Ireland who have their jobs on the line next year and I just don't see them willing to risk their jobs by having Henne as the starting QB next season.

...a Wildcat-less hybrid three-and-out/checkdown attack designed to use the least amount of clock to get us into field-goal range... Dan Carpenter being the youngest kicker ever to be inducted into the HOF will be one byproduct should the new scheme succeed. Playoffs, here we come!

...imagine an offense tailored to Henne's strengths, which include but are not limited to:

    • Shredding man-coverage situations while sharding during zone coverage.
    • Cunningly throwing to the guy no one is covering because there is no way he will ever "make a move" and is a sure tackle.
    • Getting the FB involved in the passing game early and often (see above).
    • Throwing the ball where only the 5th receiver on the bench can get it.
    • Standing stoically in the pocket... no matter what.
    • Delivering a precise throw right at the armpit of the trailing arm of his receivers... every time.
    • Throwing laser-guided missiles at the RBs from 3 feet away.
    • Lobbing the ball out the back of the end zone and LoLing about it on the sidelines as we line up for another glorious field goal.
    • Extending the play with his legs while systematically scanning the field for Rob Ninkovich and then throwing it there.

If it was his 3rd year in the same sytem i'd agree but having to start all over again with a new system would likely be a significant setback for any rookie QB with only 2 seasons under their belt especially under this coaching staff.

So, in order to fix the 3rd worst offense of last season, you hire a guy who's responsible of the 2nd worst offense of last season?

there are 32 teams in the NFL. Do you honestly believe there is one QB Coach in the NFL that doesnt know how to coach a QB? They all do. They all teach 95% of the same stuff . Go to a training camp in Denver and the QB coach is going to be teaching 95% of the same stuff that the QB Coach in Minnesota is teaching. What seperates players isnt the coaching they receive its their talent.

    And if he doesn't???

I'll take any of those QB's listed after him. And my guess is the WR's would too.

Then next year your excuse will be "It was a new system".

The Raiders and Broncos each have two better QBs, Panthers just drafted their guy, doubt henne wins over him, Redskinsand Bengals have better options that some are asking to come here and start over henne, 49ers have a QB coach who wouldn't come here with him already, the only possible one is Arizona.

i agree wholeheartedly. I expected the same up and down season but it was a bit worse then i expected so I'm of the same mind. Bring in someone who you know you can turn to if Henne has hit a wall in his development. I dont think he has and I believe he will be improved next year but I am no longer willing to risk it. Last year I was willing, this year no

Most QBs do have things click around year three starting. That's around the time that they reach 1000 pass attempts, which has always been the general rule for knowing what you have in a QB. But the system plays a huge part in how a QB looks. In Henne's case his stats show that he was a dramatically different QB with multiple receivers than in max protect. He was dramatically better against man than against zone, etc. There were many more examples, but the point is that the system he was in last year really seemed to make a practice of having him spend far more time in the situations he struggled with than in the situations he was better in. So while I have many concerns about what Henne's total upside is, I have no doubt that he would be better in a more QB friendly system.

i agree with this and i think its why they are flirting with the idea of becoming more wide open. they know they are going to have a major influx of new personnel and dont want to say for certain until they know the personnel they have. I think thats why they didnt run it that much last season. You can make huge switches to your system or philosophy in between seasons because you can add personnel but I dont think you can switch systems mid season. I am having a hard time of thinking of a team that ever switched their style of ball mid season

The Pats switched after Moss was traded. The Bears went away from their vert based game after Cutler almost got decapitated. The Pack had to adjust midstream after losing Grant in Week 1. The Jets have stopped blitzing in the playoffs b/c they knew they knew they couldnt pressure Manning/Brady. Those teams adjusted to new circumstances, we didn't, or couldn't, probably both. We're all about "execution". Doesnt matter what play we call, if it doesn't work its b/c we didn't run it properly, like we're against St Thomas Aquinas every week...

All Daboll is saying basically is Henne may have a chance to compete..unless he gets traded before.

Yeah, actually we are. If you really expect a guy to be "better than ever" after FIVE, count them... FIVE shoulder surgeries, then you're more of a homer than Andy Cohen and Barry Buetel combined.

No, we're just ignoring it and hoping it goes away.

If we trade Henne (and it's not an insane deal for us) and go into the season w/Pennington starting I'll be on suicide watch w/ Vince Young.

I think Chicago would be a good example from this season. They started the season passing a ton and running sporadically (Martz has always been too pass happy for my tastes). Through the first 9 games (not including the ones Cutler was injured for) Cutler threw an average of almost 33.5 passes per game. Through the rest of the regular season Cutler averaged 26.5 attempts per game. And even that was skewed by the finale where Cutler went back up to 39 attempts. During that stretch where they kept it balanced Chicago's INTs per game went down and their pass efficiency went up.
