Kolb is a quality NFL quarterback and he is ready to advance to a full time starter position but the Eagles have Michael Vick, without a 2nd rounder what would it take for us to get Kolb from the Eagles? I'm looking around the NFL and unless we get Payton Manning there isn't any GOOD quarterbacks in free agency and we can not wait for one to get ready. However I have a feeling were going to draft one and give Henne his third shot.
I would rather go into next season with only Henne and Brandsteder under contract than to trade anything but a 5-7th rd pick for Kolb. Edit: And I have no idea what it is exactly that makes Kolb a "quality NFL QB."
At this point if Philly is willing to trade someone I say no thanks. They have the touch in getting rid of people and very very rarely do not get by far the better end of a deal. We learned that the hard way from them already with Feely.
I would rather hire a OC first, before we even think about QB's. Hell, the new OC could turn Henne into a very good QB. I'm not impressed with Henne right now, but I'm not ready to dump him yet either. Maybe Henne just went thru a sophomore jinx last season???
Careful what you say Steve. The haters are gathering a mob and they are on their way to burn down your house.
I heard Philly is looking for a 1st and a future 1st for him, but they will budge if they do plan on getting rid of him. I've said it in another thread...they have options. They can let Vick walk and keep Kolb, they can bring Vick back and trade Kolb for good value, or they can keep both and do what they did this year. They love Kolb though, so the only way I see him being moved is if they get a heck of a deal. I've also said it before on here as well...Kolb and Vick are the only 2 QBs that could potentially become available that I would want on this team. I love Henne and would take Henne any day over guys like McNabb, rookies, Fitzpatrick, Palmer, etc...but if we could get Vick in FA or Kolb for a decent deal, I would be satisfied. I really want us to open up into a WC style offense and Kolb is a lot better than some of you guys seem to think. Especially in a WC offense.
unless it gets ridiculous, i seriously doubt PHIL will trade either QB .... there is still a risk with Vick
The haters can kiss my arse.....hehe. With the old fart gone, maybe the new OC can turn Henne around. We all know that Henne was awlfull last season, but maybe Henning put him in bad spots.
it'd be funny if we wound up with Kolb, McNabb and Chilly. Wouldn't happen unless McNabb was cut, because I dont see us trading for 2 QBs. But would be a fun situation
There were a lot of things that could have caused Henne to have a sophomore slump. All of which have been hashed out on these boards ad nauseum. Kolb to me is no more proven than Henne at this point. Has Kolb shown a significant amount of more skill than Henne at this point to trade for another young QB "on the bubble"? I don't know that I'd even feel good about giving up our third for him let alone the first.
As much I have been down on Henne, I agree with this. Kolb is not proven by any stretches of the imagination and he would cost at least a first round pick. Henne could still become a good quarterback. He is going to have to work his tail off to do so.
Kold received a one year contract extension of $12.4 million for 2011 at the beginning of the season when McNabb was let go. He received $11 this year as a bonus and has a base salary for only $1.4 million next year. Given that Vick's style of play gets him banged up I doubt the Eagles let Kolb go for anything less than a 1st round + low round pick (possibly 3rd round). Miami has way too many holes to trade multiple picks. Since no team can trade draft picks for players until after the CBA gets done it is pretty much a mute point.
I have my doubts about any Philly QB. That system makes everyone look like a star. Remember AJ Feely?
I like Kolb but it would be dumb to trade a first round pick for him. He was a 2nd round pick himself and hasn't proven anything in the NFL.
I'm not at all sold on Henne and want at least one more option pretty bad but Kolb has done nothing to show he's any better than Henne at this point. As a matter of fact, I'd say he's been just as bad under a coach that's pretty good with Qb's. As much as it pains me to say, I think it's a much better option this season to draft a stud Running Back, shore up the line with at least one mauler at G or C, then get a player who can be a threat as a return man. Then we can hope that a Qb gets dumped and becomes a FA that can come in and give Henne a run for the starting job.
High draft picks are soo tempting but if they want to make a run at the SB, they would be wise to keep Kolb. Wether he likes it or not....
Show me when we've ever successfully traded for a QB and come out winners. FA or draft, to hell with all these stupid *** trades that never pan out.
It is so easy to find running backs. The longer we ignore the QB position the longer we remain mediocre and irrelevant.
Screw Kolb, pull a Ditka and trade the entire draft for Rodgers. The last couple of weeks the guy is ripping it up and is on another level tonight.
I don't think it's easy to find real good running backs, otherwise every team would have 1,000yd rushers. It's just you're more likely to be able to find a capable RB outside of RD1 than you are a capable QB. That doesn't make it easy to find though, it's still a bit of a crapshoot. I also can't agree that we've ignored the QB position. We've spent five 2nd round picks (and two 5ths) over like the past 7 years trying to solve it. We may have avoided spending significant resources (top 16 picks) on a QB, but that doesn't equate to ignoring IMO.
He just doesn't ever look to get rattled. He only looked bad when he ran that series with the concussion and he still looked better than anything we had on offense this season. A lot of GMs kicking themselves for letting him sit there draft day.
Dont forget the many years we were without a decent back as well (there were quite a few years looking for someone) I think its more about the Line than a Back.
Never said to ignore QB. It will all depend on who's available. If the top QB's are off the board when we pick, are we supposed to reach for a lesser QB because it would show we are trying to get a QB in the first round? Gotta be smart about it.
Yes there is.. While I dislike Henne for his entire demeanor I can say we have had many clowns behind center for the Phins over the last 12+ years.
