Don't know much about Bevell. If McDaniels wants to go coach Webb & Jackson, thats him. I think he has a better shot at making a name for himself down here, but Im a Fins fan so...
if that happens then he'll deserve to be fired. he certainly didnt deserve to be let go after his third season
and we possibly could be in position to get Luck and have a new HC. Maybe things won't turn out so bad afterall. EDIT: I could live with 11-5 though, I just want us to win
With senile Henning out of the picture the mediocrity is gone. Fix the O to match the D and we've got something to enjoy!
Life aint fair. If we can find a HC that increases our chances of winning, lets get him. What Sparano "deserves" is irrelevant IMO.
Good news all around. This whole saga is finally over, Sparano stays and avoids lame duck status, Ireland and Sparano's relationship is fine and the healing process is in full force. Now let's get some new offensive coaches in here.
Buddy Ryan hated Mike Ditka, so what? It's not like they'd have to work together, and a strong leader should be able to balance the two. And I'd love to be a early 30's HC in the league, you could call me all the douches you want.
My prayer tonight...Please let Sparano's expanded powers include banning King Carl from having anything ANYTHING to do with the Miami Dolphins.
Again I wonder if salary was the reason for Berger over Grove and Smiley going bye bye. With Carey and Jake already pulling down big $$$.
With sweeping changes expected in the offensive staff, Sparano should have a better chance to fill the role of departing offensive coordinator Dan Henning. Quarterbacks coach David Lee and tight ends coach George DeLeone could be out as well, sources said. Potential replacements for Henning include current assistants Hue Jackson (Raiders), Pete Carmichael Jr. (Saints), John Garrett (Cowboys) and Rob Chudzinski (Chargers), sources said. Chudzinski formerly worked at the University of Miami. Cam Cameron wanted Carmicheal as his OC but didn't get him from Cinn. I think. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl-berardino-dolphins-sparano-0811,0,1124757.story
He is the reason Nolan left Denver a year ago. Nolan can get another job tomorrow. No way this scenario is even brought to the table. Lets be realistic as possible here.
Oh god...if you seriously...seriously believe that then I have got some prime land in the Everglades to sell you. Guaranteed to make you a profit. Trust me. Just send me a check and I'll print you out the Title.
This is 2004 all over again. Once again were extending a head coach who's coming off back to back dissapointing seasons, whose essentially lost the locker room. Ricky is ready to quit once again, though for lack of touches this time. Your number one WR complains about the conservative offense harming his and everyone elses production. Guys you drafted and signed are getting hurt and/or underperforming or are no longer on the roster(or anyone elses). Players we failed to develop but are blossoming on other teams(Matt Roth, Rob Ninkovich, Anthony Armstrong..) FAs are reluctant to come here(Ryan Clark, Antrelle Rolle). Draftees are insulted by management and hope we don't draft them(Dez Bryant). And were bringing these guys back? I've been a supporter of this regime, but this season was too much. It feels worse than 1-15, because there's a opportunity to rebuild. You can't rebuild from mediocrity. We're stuck in neutral. This is just like Dave Wannestedt's final year, where he was nearly let go by Wayne before working out a new structure that essentially didn't work. He extended Dave, gave him more power over personell while giving Spielman control over the draft and managing contracts. The team imploded that year. Were headed for disaster, history repeats itself. Mike Nolan will reprise the role of Jim Bates before the season is over.
Is that list in any way recent? Hue Jackson is the Raiders OC, he can’t make a lateral move to fill our OC spot unless he’s fired, and he’s probably getting promoted to head coach. Same with Carmichael, minus the head coach promotion. Cameron wanted Ken Zampese, who refused to come because Cameron wouldn’t surrender play calling duties. (Rightfully so, since Cameron knew he was here to make the offense not suck.)
Who gives a damn who those clowns wanna play for. JT is a championship chaser and Ricky is a old washed up guy that can't hang onto the ball. GTF over it!!! About the whole ordeal, no harm done, we just benched Sparano for a few plays and put him back in the game after our other plans didn't work out. Sound familiar??
At this point my feelings on this are that the relationship between Sparano and Ireland is going to be strained for a long, long time. They will deal with each other because they have to, but dont expect to see them inviting each other to a barbeque. We just have to hope that the problems dont extend beyond that and dont turn kindergarten and they can work together enough to find some success and ONLY then will the relationship begin to somewhat mend. Tony will always be looking over his shoulder though making sure that Judas prick isnt behind him with the knife again. If they fail together, then one of them if not both will be shown the door. This contract extension is a measly attempt at playing politics with the fanbase and any potential new coaches that will be brought in. Sorry, I dont drink that mess and dont believe in the land of fairies and unicorns either. I figure Ross cant lose here moving forward. He either wins by these two working to succeed and all is well, or he wins because we suck so bad that it all blows up and we get a pick low enough to draft a franchise QB and get a great coach. I really hope that these two can get it together as this season is a lame duck season no matter how you slice it unless this team makes the playoffs next season. So they'd better put this circus behind them ASAP and upgrade the coaching staff and QB position somehow or else I would not be surprised to see a coaching change mid-season and a GM change when the season is over.
Oh yes it flat out was the main reason for Grove's and Smiley's departure. Also the fact that in this uncapped year dumping Grove's and Smiley's contracts were free future salary cap relief.
"Carmichael, a rising young offensive mind, has been the Saints' quarterbacks coach since he joined Payton's staff in 2006. He twice turned down opportunities to leave for an offensive coordinator job with the Miami Dolphins (first under Cam Cameron, then under Tony Sparano), so he could continue working with Payton and quarterback Drew Brees." http://blog.nola.com/saintsbeat/2009/01/new_orleans_saints_promote_pet.html See not crazy-If Bowles leaves for the DC position in Big D, could the Phins use that Asst. Head coach tag as a "promotion"
Exactly, the players know that the coach is a lame duck and aren't going to buy into his approach. The team is basically ripping apart at the seams right now. Its as ugly as it gets.
None of us know what was said before the coach chase started behind closed doors, nor after. We all have made a bunch of assumptions by throwing tidbits of information together that were true or not. Its like the classic chick inquisition on where you were last night. You, me ESPN, and everyone else really doesn't know what the situation is. I'm not confident it is a great one, but we don't really know. All we can do is draw conclusions and point fingers.
