Mike Berardino reporting. 2 year extension, same salary range (no raise), bigger say in personnel decisions.
Sparano signed through 2013 http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...ins-tony-sparano-now-signed-through-2013.html Nice. And for those worried if Sparano sucks what will happen, a 6 million dollar buyout is still dirt dirt cheap so this is more or less a performance contract, gives Sparano power of players but does not make him untouchable in terms of firing him
From being most likely fired, to getting, essentially a promotion within 24 hours and lietrally doing NOTHING to warrant it. That is hilarious. I will give Sparano credit for how he conducted himself during this debacle. He may not be the best coach, but he re-affirmed himself as a good guy in life.
Just gotta manage to figure out which 7 games to go to next year. Will probably have better luck traveling though.
Good exactly as I thought Maybe now we can move forward and try to win a superbowl Been a long drought around here
My thinking exactly, now we can attract a OC and have a longer term view, but no way should Darren Rizzi come back as ST coach. When Bonamego was fired we ranked 31st, when the season ended under Rizzi we were 29th, that sucks by an metric.
How much of that is on Ireland though (Personnel wise)? I am not trying to say it should be on him, I am just curious as to what others think.
I am a fan of stability and continuity, and to me the 1-7 home record was an aberration. Now my next hope is to land Seely and Mangini to coach ST and Defensive Backs, figure Nolan leaves after 2011, Bill Sheridan bumps up, Mangini moves to LB's, nice rotation of coaching talent imho.
Well, do not think the personnel particularly matters on ST, so I'd put that mostly on Rizzi as we were forced to play starters on Special Teams Kick Coverage units, that is a really bad sign for Rizzi, as in "we no longer need your services" sign, add in 5 Returns for TD's 2 or 3 on Rizzi's watch, and failed gadget plays and he should really be shown the door.
I guess Tony is safe to finish 7-9 or 8-8 again next year. And then we'll have to suffer through a million posts with Jeff Fisher's record with the posters screaming like mental patients "WE ARE CLOSE"
I thought it odd playing some starters there as well, that's mainly why I was asking. I figured it was because our backups were just that damn poor. I know we need more speed on this team though. That will absolutely help with ST coverages, IMO.
good for tony getting more say in personnel decisions. he knew he was hung out to dry by the poor personnel he was saddled with by this FO on offense. He just guaranteed himself that that wont happen again. Tony is going to be buying his own groceries. lol
With ST EVERYONE is fast, keep in mind these guys have running 30 yd head starts, it is more about Desire and Technique, as the difference between a 4.55 guy and a 4.4 guy does not mean a whole lot when you have a 30yd running start, and Rizzi just could not get them to perform. Most people watched the offense or defense, I watched specials every week and our unit was just not good outside of Jones and Rob Wallace.
It could have ended like this for Tony, capicé ?
Without an extension, we couldn't get a offensive coordinator to take a job here for one year. Pretty obvious move after all the fiasco is out of the way.
I think the purge of Grove and Smiley really bothered him, I know why Irish did it, matching costs with BM and Dansby, but it did leave Sparano out to dry once Garner went down.
exxactly. one thing this means to me is we will have one hell of an offensive line next year. Not sure about RB or QB but I know Tony is going to make damn sure he has an offensive line to work with. I think this proves once and for all he had no say in personnel matters
