Until 1997 the Florida Marlins, while not leaders in attendance, were at least respectable. It wasn't Boston, but it wasn't Cleveland pre-Jacobs Field either.

Then the Marlins won a championship. Then within 2 weeks of winning, Huizenga starts a massive firesale. Blows out the whole team.

That destroyed the fanbase, and its never come back, even when they won in 2003, the attendance was not good until the end of the year and it was possible they would maybe make the playoffs.

My question is, does this apparent fan revolt we are hearing on talk radio (which is usually a good gauge of public opinion) permanently kill the fanbase ? I am really afraid of that, and in the long run that leads owners to explore options in other cities. Especially if they get rebuffed by politicians who see a mayor getting recalled right now because he helped fund a stadium for the Marlins. Yesterday it was announced that the Marlins will approach Broward County for funds to help them build a roof and other upgrades for Sun Life. Ross has said he will get no more Super Bowls without it.

Ross, if he does nothing after this fiasco, is risking losing thousands of season tix holders. I think its not just a risk, but is a reality.

I would hate for that to happen, but this is a very fickle area, and it could suffer the same fate as the Marlins.

    Lmfao!!!! :omg::hammertime:

Yes, that fanbase that is unemployed listening to talk radio will abandon the team!

Good job comparing keeping Sparano with what Wayne did the Marlins.... The way Wayne basically gave us the middle finger and disbanded a Champion..

New flash: Even when the Marlins were surging towards the World Series attendance sucked. The Dolphins survived 1-15 and Cam Cameron and now this 4 day sequence of events littered with questionable sources and innuendo is going to demolish the franchise?? Who the hell cares, I read on the intertnetz and on talk radio that the earth is ending in 2012 so all of this will be moot anyways.

i think the ppl down there need to grow up. so enthralled with big names and glitz, they forget the Glitzy Marino years never won a championship and only went to the big dance 1 time. I cant beleive so many fans were actually behind making a one year college wonder the highest paid coach in the NFL. i cant beleive they want to blow up a team with so much potential just to land a guy who only has one ring.

I think Ross is a friggin Goon. The guy came into this league thinking he was going to revolutionize or innovate the NFL somehow, and now he really has looked like an idiot. Look at Jerry Jones, he had a worse season compared with expectations then we did by a long shot, and he hired a classy guy from within the organization. he did it quickly and within the rules. The south Fl. media is just as bad as any other culprit here. Putting up all these hollow reports, desperatly hoping it will cling. i havnt heard one person on the radio be supportive of anything what so ever.

L.A. Fins - I agree it's not so crazy and could be an option for Ross down the road.

Agreed. This team could suck for another 15 years and it wouldn't matter. This is and always has been a football town.

We have affairs with the other teams in town, but we're married to the Dolphins.

So is creating a settlement on the moon. After all Ross has mega billions and could sponsor space travel and expansion of the NFL to the moon. Imagine the ratings? The low gravity could make even Henne look good.

There is no law that says the Dolphins will always be popular or the #1 team in town.

The newer generation of Dolphins fans have never experienced any kind of real success, thus they're less invested.

The attendance will never get so bad as a move would be considered but I think it's a guarantee that they dip below 50,000 season tickets this year, which means they'll be a blackout possibility every week

All I know is after this **** storm, the tickets prices better decrease. After saving 8million he should be able to absorb the costs.

That marriage is headed to divorce quickly. You best get the fans & Dolphins to marriage counceling. Just check out that stadium next year if you don't believe me. The TV ratings have already shown a huge loss.

The people of Cleveland never thought they could lose the Browns either. They had an even more loyal fanbase than down here.
