I don't think the Rooney Rule is a problem. Is it really that tough just to interview somebody. It's not exactly affirmative action or anything.
There's never been an Asian head coach. OH NOES!! It must be racism!! Give me a break... Sometimes...sometimes it's not about racism. Considering that there are 32 openings for 350,000,000 Americans, 85+% of which that are not black, why you you even think there WOULD be a black coach?
Your Asian analogy is flawed. An overwhelming majority of football players are black and yet only 11 HC's in the history of the NFL have been black Don't you find that odd? All these black guys with excellent experience in football, and only 11 have EVER been HC's. And you're *****ing about a rule that makes teams conduct a simple interview?!?!?
So if you fire a minority head coach do you have to interview another minority before filling the position or are you automatically a racist?
Yes and that is a clear case of inequality. As soon as a player of each race is mandated by the NFL to be considered prior to any team drafting yet another black player I'll support the Rooney rule.
this thread is beat all points of view have been explored the rhetoric is becoming divisive I'm through posting on this thread & suggest that it be moved to a more suitable site for further discussion like: SoapBox - Rants forum
Friend finyank13: only a reader would catch that one: could it be the "Mild Irritant"? speaking of reading & writing, my mother was H. L. Mencken next door neighbor growing up in West Baltimore got an entire room dedicated to his many writings, essays, articles etc @ the Enoch Pratt library I see something of the Mencken sense of humor & directness in some of your many posts now you girls have fun with this belligerent thread.... once again, good night Ladies
No, your analogy is flawed. I heard that Mario Andriette can drive a car really well...I don't think he designs them however. Chuck Yeager flew the hell out of a plane, he never built one though. Being a good football player doesn't necessarily mean that you can teach other people how to be good football players. Most NFL coaches were never great players. Some have played in the NFL but were also college grads who were either drafted in the latter rounds or walk ons. In fact, a lot of the great NFL coaches have/had teaching degrees.
Okay than. I assume you say that because you think I'm white and not actually a black person. But go ahead, I'm ignorant of slavery in my black heritage then. Now what? EDIT: I'm also damn tired of being assumed to be white. Can I not just be a Libertarian black? Nappy Roots, you really need to learn how to debate a point without using the automatic dismissal card and having preconceived notions about who you're debating. It'd make it so much easier for me. Do you know how many times, me, a black/cuban guy, has been called racist against blacks or ignorant? It's become laughable.
I'm glad this thread has gone where it has. When I last posted I thought I was more alone in my opinion that I am. If you're a talented coach, you will be noticed. You will get recommended by your peers and eventually get your shot. If you're an owner/GM and think any other way you are not going to maximize your talent and you're going to be at a disadvantage unless you're lucky. The same thing goes with white players. Everyone is ****ing equal. It's all about how hard you work and your individual talent. All skin color means is that your ancestors lived in cold or hot weather as they evolved.
