Exactly, now it could be looked at as JH is a younger version of Gruden with less burnout attached and willing to work with a GM as his drafts in TB were tragic.

Well, he should have fired Sparano, he should have announced a coaching search, but I do not mind the money if they believe JH is Gruden as Gruden wanted 10 million, if JH cost 7.5 then they are saving a bit of coin and still getting the different offensive philosophy that we need in the AFCE.

Which means in his first yr JH would more or less be tasked with installing the offense and they hire top notch Coordinators at ST/QB Coach/OC.

I am not worried about how all of the spin doctors will go with this. IMHO, Ross is doing what HE HAS TO DO........ to hire the guy HE HAS TARGETED, to be the head coach of HIS TEAM. This is his FIRST CHOICE. He is a VERY successful businessman, taking care of business.

other than the fact that it gives people a chance to interview for a job that they wouldn't have gotten without it, and some coaches have been hired due to those interviews, it is nothing more than show

Yes. People crying about how Ross is handling business are closet Sparano fans + don't know how to run a business.

Players are a different animal. However you don't usually see any former players, except maybe a token here or there in the corporate offices. The places where the real decisions are made, are usually devoid of anyone other than very WASPish frat types who all went the right schools and belong to the right Greek Houses from their campus days.

Only because the NAACP was making noise about it. It was around the time of the Arizona Super Bowl that was controversial because Arizona refused to recognize the Martin Luther Day Holiday.

For the record, I am not saying they dont know how to run a business, I am saying I HAVE no business second guessing someone who has been so successful running a business. WAAAAAAY above my pay grade.
The NFL is very quick to forget what happened in the past. What is going on now will be forgotten very soon in the league. Its NO BIG DEAL.

    Gannon was a Four time Pro Bowler (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002)
    Three time All-Pro (2000, 2001, 2002)
Two time Bert Bell Award winner (2000, 2002)
Two time Pro Bowl MVP (2001, 2002)

So yes, he was winning awards and earning accolades before Harbaugh got there. This was mainly because of Gruden's WCO that Gannon flourished under. This is to take nothing away from Harbaugh who has been successful in his own right (obviously), but I don't tend to give him much credit for Gannon's development.

I understand all of that. But it just looks silly for an unproven commodity. Again, I like tha tRoss has the attitude to do whatever it takes to make this team a winner, but the tactics/timing/person on the pursuit is somewhat screwy in my opnion. It comes off as somewhat desperate is all.

Your desperate, is my courageous. Win with character, and win with Cruelty.

What do you think Bill Belichick would do if he were an owner who wanted a HC?

who says that he is? Ross isn't doing his due diligence by interviewing a range of coaches to figure out which one is best

Where did you see that Gruden wanted 10 million? If true, that is insane and Gruden is believing his own hype. I know Gruden somewhat personally, and I would be surprised as he has always been humble and extremely nice when dealing with him on a personal level.

Also, do we know what offense Harbaugh runs exactly? I know he runs a pro style offense but do we know which offense that is? Does he run a form of the WCO? If so, I think Henne may be salvageable. And if so, it saves Miami a LOT of headaches, both financially and personnel wise.

absolutely not a Sparano fan. I just don't remember a case like this....tell me the last guy that was still the HC while his owner goes out PUBLICLY looking for his replacement ? Its been done, but all behind closed doors. Wayne had no coach as I think he had already let Bates go when he closed on Saban. Shula was chased out before Jimmy was announced. Tell me about other teams I don't follow them, but this year tell me another team that has been looking, that we know about, that still has a coach ?

Sure, it gives people a chance to interview. However, you have not one ounce of proof that ANY coaches have been hired because of this rule.

    It is "you're", not your.

And how am I desperate? The point I was making is that Gannon was good before Harbaugh became a glorified ballboy for Oakland. To give Harbaugh a ton of credit for Gannon's 2002 season is just...wrong.

That takes nothing away from Harbaugh. He has done very well at every stop he has bene at as a head coach, and even seemes to be a fantastic recruiter based on how he helped the WKU program while still being an active player. The coaching pedigree within this family is strong. I don't see how any of this makes me "desperate." I am for getting a new coach. I don't think Sparano is the guy for us.

I just don't like giving him more credit than he deserves, is all.

There are ounces of proof. There have been people who said they got the job because of an interview from the Rooney Rule. Plus a few years after it went into effect the amount of minority hires increased.

It isn't 100% proof, however it is ounces.

Why do you think everything has to be done like everyone else is doing it?

It's called change and progress. After a 25+ year Super Bowl drought, I'm happy to see some of those things.

The NFL is all about image. That would tarnish "The Shield" so it was more prudent to give in to them than to let that publicly fester.

Kawakami, who has been all over this from the beginning, is stating the same. He is a S.F> local beat writer, so if he is saying it...there might be some truth to this.

    Who are these "people". Tomlin?

BEFORE the Rule went into effect there was already an increase happening.

However, like you, I have no proof showing it hasn't helped. It's speculation on both our parts. I just see it as almost a slap in the face to minorities.

harbaugh basically runs a version of Callahan's OAKLAND offense. It's a version of the west coast offense but its not of the Bill Walsh variety. Harbaugh's has more passes to the receivers and less passes to the backs. When Harbaugh had Ostrander as a QB it really wasnt anything special. When he had Luck it worked great.

But passing is not necessarily the thing to look at. Though Callahan and Harbaugh have had success through the air, they have had more on the ground. Expect a run heavy offense that sets up the pass.

Callahan's offense failed in Nebraska but when he was in Oakland they led the league in rushing one year and passing another. Also as a Jets assistant he got the Jets last year to be the number one rushing team
