Does anyone here really care about the value of the Dolphins Brand?

If that happens, how does he ever get anyone to come and be the OC ? It most certainly will not be anyone with NFL experience. No way will they want to step foot in our facility. Its going to be like walking on eggshells in that place. The relationship between Tony & Ross is forever "different", same goes to between Ireland & Tony. We can all say they will be "professional" about it, but deep down Tony will always be hurt, and no I am not making excuses for his record & job he did, but I am talking about Tony as a real person, and he is just like the rest of us, he has emotions and feelings and they have to be about as hurt as anyone can be. He knows they were trying to replace him. They don't have the confidence in him to get this turned around, no matter what public face they put on it. No I know I wouldn't want to work in that environment if I was an OC and had ANY other options.

Yes, racism still exists and it's not just one sided either. However, this type of thinking is becoming more and more scarce. And the reason is because people are realizing that if you try and hire based off of skin color you may miss out on some great talents. The NFL trying to FORCE owners to hire someone they don't want to hire is ridiculous. Besides, do you think anyone wants to work for someone who doesn't like them because of their skin color?

Interesting little tidbits about Harbaugh. He is one of only two coaches with a winning record against USC (2-1). He is 58-27 overall as a head coach (.680 winning %). He took over a 1-11 Stanford team and built them up over four years to 12-1 (his only other winning season was the year before when they went 8-4 and had their first bowl appearance since 2001).

While he was still playing, he was an NCAA certified unpaid assistant coach for his dad's division II program at Western Kentucky. He was involved in recruiting 17 player's for WKU's 2002 Division 1-AA national champion team.

He is 47 years old (I actually thought he was younger).

Hopefully Ross does. Because if he doesn't he won't care about creating a winning franchise.

I can't see them bringing him back next year regardless. Might as well hand it over to Mike Nolan if that's that case.

Why would he have to care about creating a winning franchise? When Harbaugh fails in 2 or 3 years all he has to do is hire the next popular head coach and the mindless sheep will come back.

I'm not really sure how to answer your question. If you think Ross doesn't want to make money, create stability, and form another Dolphins dynasty I don't know if anything I say would/could change your mind.

The only possibility I can think of is Ross was never on the Jet and it was sent to pick up Harbaugh and bring him back here but that makes little sense.

We probably aren't going to him at all. I don't think Harbaugh signs. I think we will either have Nolan as the HC or back with Sparano.

Dude, NFL Head Coaches CANNOT, I REPEAT CANNOT be demoted if they stay with the same team. Its one of the rules. If Sparano stays its as HC, and HC only.

While at the Raiders, he helped turn Rich Gannon, an NFL journeyman QB up to that time, into an All-Pro and SB (losing) QB, IIRC.

hey the upside to this is if Harbaugh is the coach next year, and Gannon does our games, he won't be making fun of us as much I'll bet  on CBS.

This was just said by anaylst on ESPN : 49ers are prepared to move ahead as they will NOT be able to compete with the package the Dolphins are prepared to offer Harbaugh.

The anaylst did reiterate that this does not mean that 49ers are out of the picture.

whats really funny is that one of the main reasons accordng to legend is that gruden knew all the Raiders audibles on offense. wonder who was in charge of that?

Wow.....if we meet his price demands and he rejects us, man how low will that make all of us, especially Mr Ross. Holy Cow, you offer a guy more money than everyone but Bellicheat and he still turns us down. Then Mr Ross will know he has a sows ear on his hands.

Not exactly true. Harbaugh was an offensive assistant in 2002. He became the QB coach in 2003 when the Raiders went 4-12. And I think we are giving Harbaugh too much credit for Gannon's progression. Gannon was pretty much great form the time he came to Oakland under Gruden's watch. Not saying that Harbaugh didn't help in 2002, but it is a stretch to give Harbaugh much more than passing credit for that season.

From what I've read he's offering him more money than even Belicheat. If these reports are true, I do not see Harbaugh turning down the chance to become the highest paid coach in the NFL.

It was actually worse than that. Callahan never even changed the language of the playcalls at all. So the defense, once they saw how Oakland lined up, was able to call out Oakland's plays and adjust accordingly.

Gannon was good, but as soon as Harbaugh got there Gannon had a 4700yd, 26 TD, 10 INT, 94 QBR season.

2 good seasons at Stanford, and here we are..the owner acting like a horny teenager climbing through a bedroom window and being caught.

    This is sad.

I do, because depending on circumstances it can affect what an owner is willing to do, to bring the brand back up to what he wants the value to be. If Ross goes out and gets Harbaugh and the fans are still lukewarm & he doesn't get the sales he thinks he should get, it will possibly be a factor in what he does the next time this scenario happens to him. He may not make this push and spend this money next time.

I think Ross wants to make money. The other things are secondary. Look how he is hiring his coach this year. He isn't going for the best, he only went for the sexiest.

  34. Samphin

Please, you can't give Harbaugh full credit for Gannon's progression when he was winning awards and putting up numbers before Harbaugh ever got there. He was an offensive assistant. He wasn't the OC, or even a position coach. Basically a paid intern in 2002. Trust me, when it comes to the Raiders, I know how they operate. ESPECIALLY under Gruden.

I tend to agree that the way he is flying all over the country is odd and probably opening himself up to massive ridicule. But I suppose you could argue that he is at least trying to do whatever he can to make his team a winner. I just wish they would have handled the whole situation better from the get go.

Yeah but many of these owners are very subtle about it. Its not "I don't want any ******* working for me" . They for the most part just ignore that people of color exist. They often have no one of color that works for them in any of the top layers of their businesses. The only people of color they see all day are those doing manual labor kinds of jobs. Its not discussed, its never an issue. It just doesn't ever enter their minds to hire someone of color. It happens all over corporate America, not just in the NFL.

IIRC Gannon never led the league in anything before Harbaugh got there. Again, he was a good QB, but he wasn't winning "awards".

Besides, I'm not claiming Harbaugh did anything for Gannon, just posting his numbers once Harbaugh arrived.

What about when they are cutting checks for 100's of million's of $'s to their minority players?

Again though, that's beside the point. It's THEIR business. They should be able to hire or fire whomever they want. If they want to limit themselves to one skin color they will suffer in the long run.

    apples and oranges.

It is THEIR business and it is a rule that THEY created. it isn't something demanded by government. The majority of owners in the NFL voted for the rule.

I don't see why that makes a difference, chances are if we wanted to meet with Harbaugh that badly again we would have paid to fly him to Miami, or sent a jet to go get him and fly him here anyways. Might as well just fly yourself to him, and have the meeting there. Either way the Dolphins were probably going to pay the bill to get there to chat with the guy again. Just a cost of doing business.
