His overall scouting grade was a 90

Here is Kiper's assessment of that draft and Henne:

Jake Long fills a need at left tackle, and I liked Bill Parcells' selection of Clemson DE Phillip Merling with the 32nd overall pick because he's solid against the run. The pick of Chad Henne in the second round tells you Miami is not sold on John Beck; however, I'm not sold on Henne. He has accuracy issues and a long delivery and he isn't mobile. I do like his toughness and he does have some of those intangibles you look for in a quarterback. Defensive end Kendall Langford is a big body, but I thought he was somewhat of a reach after an average senior season. Shawn Murphy really came on as a guard and he could battle for a starting spot. Jalen Parmele was a workhorse at Toledo, a big running back who also has some speed. And Lionel Dotson was a good seventh-round pick who should be able to help at nose tackle.

Meh, remember how refreshing it was to know we finally had a QB of the future. It was nice to believe we were heading in the right direction at the one position we struggled so mightly with. Now it's right back to the drawing board, over so quickly. I guess it's kinda like looking at old photos of a hot but psycho girlfriend.

Is that the same 90 grade that he's given Mallett and NEWTON?.... you know, just for clarification purposes. :shifty:

I predict we overtake the Pats for the division crown but we're not ready to make noise in the playoffs. Also I will take Tom Brady #2 in my Fantasy draft, I will jinx him and cause one of his legs and some of his girlie parts to be destroyed!

Just curious to see what he was rated as during the draft and thought maybe others were too?

I'm calling it now: we end up running some sort of trick formation that takes us to the playoffs but ultimately dooms our growth as a team b/c we place too much emphasis on it.

Well, if we're going by Mel's rankings alone, then we should probably either just stay with Henne, trade up for Gabbert, or take Locker at 14 and watch this team go down in flames for it.

Now you're talking crazy, how could our growth be doomed with the "Trifecta"!?!

Yeah, maybe taking Ingram and running the ball with play action mixed in is the better way to go?

Who cares what his stats were at the combine. He has shown over the last two years that he is not the future of the Dolphins. It is time the Dolphins cut their losses with Henne and start all over again looking for their QB of the future.

I just posted this in another thread, but I think Henne is taking a lot of heat for not being able to elevate a poor Miami offense. I can name a bunch of QB's that wouldn't have made the Miami offense successful. You would have needed an elite QB to make that disaster work (no offense). Your run blocking was atrocious, your RB's are on the decline, and the play calling was inept.

Other teams could win with Henne and I don't think it is all his fault that yours couldn't. Obviously he has room for improvement, but how many 3rd year QB's don't?

Curious what happens if Flacco plays for Miami and Henne for Baltimore? Maybe its not all Henne?

Possibly, if you want to be better next year b/c 1 thing that has to be considered with Newton & Mallett is that they would most likely sit the bench behind Henne for at least a year b/c they're both raw and need work.

What happens if we don't get a coach this year and need to wait a year?..... Would a new coach want Cam or Mallett if they don't fit his specs for the position?

Another concern is: do we really want this current staff drafting another guy who needs to be groomed after watching how they destroyed Henne and White?

The last thing to consider is: do these guys fit the offensive philosophy of this current staff? IMO they don't. It's taken Henne 3 years so far and he's far from reaching his potential. How long do you think it would take Cam or Mallett?

IMO we'll grab someone in the mid rounds to compete. I wouldn't mind trading up for Gabbert, but if Sparano is still here, I'm not sure Ross would approve of a coach going to this extreme when he knows Tony is just a stop gap until we get in his replacement.

The easiest thing for Ross to allow would be to pick up a FA who can immediately compete for the starting job w/o costing us a #1 pick. That way our future coach can come in and pick "his guy".

There is one thing now for certain if Sparano is the coach next year. Henne will not be the starting QB, because there is not way Sparano is going to allow Henne to put his job in jeopary again. Sparano may still be fired after next season but it won't be because he allowed Henne to fail once again at the QB position. Coach Nolan has stated that he ended up getting fired by the 49er's because he wasn't willing to admit that Smith was not a capable NFL QB. I am sure Nolan has mentioned this to Sparano and Sparano and Ireland will now go out and do whatever necessary to ensure that Henne is not the starting QB of the Dolphins next year.
