No one said he sucked? And Newton was accurate in college, in a big time SEC program and he can run! Work Ethic? Well IDK about that...thats where the due diligence comes in.

    Bills? LOL

Well according to ESPN he is #29 now on the board, so likely it will not be the Fins. But I would not be shocked if he is stellar at the combine and moves up.

I wasn't quoting someone on the "suck" comment, I was merely trying to put emphasis. Actually, the only real difference between Roddy of 05-06 and 07-10, is that in 05-06, Roddy only caught 30 passes in those seasons, and ever since, he's been 80-100+. His average per catch in 05-06 was like 15 yards a catch. He always showed the ability, he just didn't see the ball enough. Maybe some of that was because Vick preferred to run, instead of looking downfield?

I'm not saying that I'm opposed to Newton. I think he could be great. I'm just not completely sold on him. I prefer prototypical pocket passers. If Newton were to work out, that would be awesome...but if he didn't, it would be catastrophic. You'd have wasted a first round pick, and gone through, including Henne years, 5-6 seasons of crappy QB play. Is that a gamble worth taking? Glad I don't have to make that decision.

Spread...I guess, although I am not a football guru to really diagnose it. The OL is really good so the pass protection is superb generally and they can either run or fling it and if it breaks down Cam just takes off. He is super athletic and very accurate and was the top rated passer in College this year.

Its either that or grab McNabb? Not sure what other options there are? But the Patriots back up looked better than Henne yesterday

No way. Newton is probably the one first round QB I DON'T want.

Lazy, very questionable character, lack of smarts, extremely raw, etc.

I'll pass on JaMarcus Russell 2.0

He is not fat like Russell and he did not stumble on his 49 TDs this year, come on now.

I admit I don't watch much college football. I'm also not saying the kid doesn't have talent. But I've heard from a number of people who know the game that he does not play in a pro-style offense and would be very raw coming out. Also have heard non stop about his character issues and questionable work ethic and smarts. But like I said, I'm not declaring myself a guru here.

I'm just very nervous about drafting someone with such huge question marks in the first round.

Absolutely not. VERY questionable character, sense of entitlement, and a liar to boot.

That causes problems in a pre-masons WR, much less a franchise QB. I hope newton stays as far away from this team as possible.

Can someone explain me the love for Newton here? He has 1 year of college experience, has been in trouble because of buying a stolen laptop, and his dad shopped him around. This would be like drafting a freshman. Why get someone that is this big of a risk, with little NFL potential when we can get a much higher potential at a very important position, like Mark Ingram or Ryan Williams? You guys give up on Chad Henne because he had an average season, even though his offensive line was beatup the whole year, the run game never got going, and he was left with 2 receivers that have ever played before after Hartline went down. Marlon Moore and Roberto Wallace combined for as many drops as catches this season. That's not good.

What do you think is going to happen, when we bring in a raw QB like Newton and injuries occur again? Do you think a rookie QB is going to be able to handle what Henne went through this year? It just makes no sense to me to waste a 1st round pick on someone like Newton.

He also won the JUCO NATL Championship, he has the requisite size and played in a big time program for a big time conference. I guess maturity can be garnered? I'd rather have Luck but we aren't getting the 1st pick.

I've said before that Newton is probably the highest Risk/Reward player in the draft. I think Roethlisberger might be a good comparison talent wise. Newton has a ways to go with his accuracy, but could be a nice player if developed correctly...which means if we draft him he'll be horrible.

I had the opportunity to watch a few of the bowl games and good lord there is a lot of offensive talent out there this year. I know that I said this last year but this draft is tailor made for us.

Russell wasn't even close to Newton's talent. One thing for Cam is as he develops as a passer he will be making plays with his feet. He will be the best or 2nd best (Vick) rushing QB in the NFL right away....

Russell in college rushing...139 rushes, 79 yards, 4 TD
Newton in college rushing...263 rushes, 1522 yards, 24 TD

You are also comparing Russell's 3rd year of starting with Newton's 1st year. Russell completed 50.7% of passes in year one and 60.5% in year two.

Same can be said for quarterbacks, and I am not saying that as an endorsement of Henne, just saying.

I can't help that Newton wasn't good enough to play his first 2 seasons and he warmed the bench over at Florida. His stats are the ONLY stats I can use. Russell, in his first year, split time with Randall.

No one is denying that Newton can run. The problem is, out of the last top pick "running" QB's, which one's are still around or play well?

Either he is a difference maker or he is not but if not we get really bad and get a really good pick in 2012. If he is then JACKPOT. At this point I'd rather take a risk to be great or be terrible rather than remain mediocre.

Columbia, Mo. – University of Missouri junior quarterback Blaine Gabbert (Ballwin, Mo.) has decided to forego his final year of collegiate eligibility, and make himself available for the 2011 NFL Draft. Gabbert made the choice following an outstanding 2010 season, which was capped by a standout performance in the 2010 Insight Bowl, when he completed 41-of-57 passes for 434 yards and a touchdown.

Mark Ingram seems like the easy pick since we're losing Brown and Williams, but I agree... although it's a risk, you can't pass up a guy like Cam Newton if he's there. He may be a bust, but oh well, we've had ted ginn moments before. In my opinion the boom outweighs the bust if we get Newton. His physical tools are unparalleled but I think his intangibles could mesh well with the phins. If sparano stays, I think Newton fits with him. Whenever Auburn has a big game Newton sprints out to his student section and absolutely goes nuts pumping his team up. The dolphins offense has no fire, no leadership, I think Newton could really help things out.

As a die-hard Nebraska fan I've had plenty of chances to see Gabbert, and I don't think he's a good fit. He played horribly in every big game while at Mizzou. He struggles mightily against nebraska's defense, which is stylistically, the most pro-like he has seen. The kid has the size and the arm, but that is it. Seems very weak mentally.

Id be for Newton. Im not an expert, Ive read how the coaches worked with him and Ive watched him all year and Ive noticed his progression from the beginning to end of the season improve big time. It just tells me hes a definately coachable kid and hes still learning. He might be kinda scary in a year or so with some good NFL QB coaches.

Now as far as his charater? He didnt steal anything, he bought a stolen lap top. He also got charged and had to community service for it.....He was 19 or 20....with 40 year old Brett farve harassing chicks and big ben...Im not too concerened about the laptop thing

His lying? His dad tried to sell him out. Evereybody thinks that Cam knew, but the NCAA cant proove it. ...Even if he did know about his dads doings, I dont think you will find another kid in college who would do any different....

As far as smarts,..It came out he cheated 3 times while at florida. Id imagine other students cheat on tests too, but we dont hear about it because its a federal offence for schools to release that kinda info to the public....

I wouldnt put too much into all the bad stuff you hear about him, I really think people are just blowing it all out of proportion....If he can play, he can play!!!

I'm not high on Newton at all, and not high on Gabbert, in fact I would rather have Henne than both of them.

I really like Pat Devlin whom I have seen play, this kid is tough as nails.
