That could be interesting as he was my favorite wrestler growing up. TNA was doing nothing with him but utter crap from what I saw.

Makes sense since it's on WCW home turf. I believe Goldberg already signed a deal with the WWE to be inducted. So it would be nice to see him, Sting, Arn Anderson and Booker T get inducted this year. Maybe even Lex Luger, Rick Rude, DDP, Pillman, Vader, LOD and the Steiner Brothers. Of course it would be cool to induct the Horsemen and nWo but with Flair and Hogan in TNA it won't happen.

Sting being inducted into the Hall AND facing Undertaker to challenge the record would be pretty sweet. One of the very last dream matches left and both can dial it up enough to make it a good match. Vince owns most of Sting's video library so you combine those names with the WWE's awesome production and a big time feel could happen.

Of course, now that I said it, we are probably headed for UT-Kane part 3.

As for Hall of Famers: Sting, Anderson, Vader, Gordon Solie, LOD and a couple of lesser knowns and I am good. Luger is still in a wheelchair last I heard and is now down to something like like 180 pounds. Not sure if his vanity would allow him to be see in such a public spotlight or not. Steiners flamed out and probably won't make it anytime soon and the Horsemen as a group should, but weren't part of WWE at anytime and I am pretyt sure Vicne hates that fact, so while individual members will get in, the unit as a group won't. Although a stables division of the HOF would be sweet. Raven's Flock/Nest, NWO, Nation of Domination, Horsemen, Heenan's Family, Dangerous Alliance. All sorts of possibilities.

Also of note, Matt Hardy made his TNA debut tonight in dreadlocks and...still fat. Mr. Kennedy beat Jeff Hardy for the TNA Championship and Jeff Jarrett threw up in the ring.

Oh and I am pretty sure I might be ringside for the Elimination Chamber PPV in February. If not backstage.

I for one could not be any more excited for Undertaker/Kane 3! It needs to be booked now as a special Inferno/Casket/HitC match with Paul Bearer as special ref so he could turn on both 15 times before the match ends.

Anyway I haven't heard about a possible Sting/UT match but I think it would be a pretty cool match to see. The build to it would be interesting for sure.

Regarding the Horsemen, although they never appeared in the WWE the HOF has a lot of guys that were never stars or did much if anything at all in the WWE (Von Erichs, Bockwinkle, Gagnes, Solie etc) have been put in so it is possible one day they would be inducted. I do like the idea of having one stable each year go in, I think that's a cool idea. Since the WWE does own almost every tape library in wrestling except TNA, I'd love to see them induce more guys that weren't just WWE guys. It would be cool to see them induct a Great Muta or Liger. Plus if the WWE wanted to be serious about the HOF they need to put the petty crap/blackball list down for awhile and put in guys like Macho Man and Bruno Sammartino (although Bruno doesn't want anything to do with the WWE). I think seeing the WWE try hard after the Warrior the past 2 years shows they might be starting to go in the right direction.

I had heard the WWE is seriously thinking about putting up a real museum somewhere so fans could go to it and see. I think that's a fantastic idea and would be really cool to go too. Last I heard the WWE was shopping bids in a few places to see where they might build it.

As for Matt Hardy, I heard his match with RVD was sloppy (shocking with those 2 huh?) and Hardy looked really rusty. TNA took the title off of Jeff because he's due in court soon and is expecting to plead guilty (so much for Jeff and Matt insistenting Jeff did nothing wrong huh?) and his future is up in the air.

The Von Erichs got in as a group as a thank you for selling their tape library for the old WCCW days to Vince. Not that they don't belong. And Bruno was offered a HOF induction and turned it down, so it is on him at this point. Muta/Liger would be awesome and deserving additions. As for the Rela Museum, it would be great, but it would almost have to travel them for Wrestlemania weekend. I can't imagine they would be too successful with just a static location. I could be wrong though.

Yeah I would tend to agree with you about questioning how successful a real museum would be. The WWE basically has the traveling museum for Fan Access/Fest they do for WM weekend but that limits them to just 1 weekend per year. The WWE probably couldn't put a real museum in the middle of nowhere like baseball or basketball HoFs are, so they crosses off Stamford, CT since there's nothing around that area. Maybe somewhere close to New York City (near MSG) or a big wrestling city/vacation spot like Orlando, FL or Philly or Chicago. I think it would be pretty cool to actually have a real museum. The WWE could probably bring in old stars each weekend to sign autographs and have maybe a movie theater that would air live shows like RAW, Smackdown or PPVs so fans could come and watch. Maybe play old PPVs or TV shows as well. I think all wrestling fans would agree it would be awesome to walk around and see some of the stuff the WWE has laying around in their warehouse, again the question is if enough people would go and keep coming back to make it profitable, that's the big question. Of course this is the same company that had no doubts on a weight lifting company, a new football league, movie studio and a restaurant so you wonder what's taking them so long on this idea.

Shawn Michaels is the first one named to the 2011 HOF Class. It was so obvious I'm surprised we all missed it. With the way Jerry Lawler was taking before the break and after RAW came back from the commercial I thought there was a chance it would be Macho Man (silly me).

Glad HBK is going in already. Haven't watched since he retired, but tuned in when I saw it posted on twitter. As for this Hall of Fame they already have the main entrant in HBK. I think Lita or Miss Elizabeth will be the female that goes in this year since it's in Atlanta. Some WCW people will probably go in too.

Miss Elizabeth is a good one but I'm sure they will hold off on inducting her until they finally decide to put the Macho Man in, so they could go in a package type deal and Savage could except her award for her and speech on her behalf.

As far as women getting in, I think Trish Stratus should go in before Lita, but of course they might be holding her back until they go back to Canada for a WM. Maybe they'll induct Sable this year (which would only add fuel to the Brock Lesnar WM fire).

Seriously is there anyone in the WWE as good as CM Punk is right now? The guy is great. Hopefully the WWE goes all out on his push and doesn't short change him. I'd love it if he was able to win the Royal Rumble. His performance last year was awesome. Unfortunately The Miz's run isn't going that great (although I absolutely blame the booking for that) so I wouldn't be shocked to see Cena win the title from him the day after the Rumble or at the Feb PPV.

It's nice to see the WWE switched Wade Barrett over to Smackdown, where he could be the top heel there. With Barrett, The Miz and Punk, the WWE is loaded with long term top heels right now.

Curious Ray, how do you judge Miz's reign as not being a success? What criteria do you use?

Well what exactly has The Miz done that's been meaningful since he won the title outside of his very good match with John Morrison in the first RAW of the new year? I feel as though he's being poorly booked much like Sheamus and even Jack Swagger were last year, especially with him wasting his time with Lawler and the WWE for whatever reason cutting short his feud with Morrison, which could have really helped both guys careers. Yes he had a decent ladder match with Lawler that was better than it should have been but between that match (which I still feel made him look weak but we beat that horse to death), his count out loss to Lawler and then getting pinned by Lawler in a tag team match I feel like The Miz has lost some momentum due to the WWE booking. I'm sorry but I don't feel as though the WWE Champion should be wasting time wrestling Lawler fro the past month, I realize December has always been a slow month storyline wise but that's exactly why The Miz should be focusing on someone like Morrison. If a mini feud with Lawler would help actually get him over I'd be all for it but The Miz is already above that. Why not give The Miz/Morrison a program and match at the Royal Rumble (especially since it would take the pressure off of a title match being the main draw since the Rumble match has always been the selling point). It's only a matter of time before the WWE takes the belt away from him and declares him as being a failure instead of the bookers looking in the mirror wondering why. And you know the WWE is going to blame the low PPV buyrate and ratings on him.

How would you rate his reign so far? Do you honestly think it's going well or the WWE is doing everything right booking wise with him? Do you consider it a success? Is it too early to tell? Would you have changed anything?

  15. Samphin

Samphin Κακό σκυλί ψόφο δεν έχει

I wasn't being confrontational by the way, Ray. I was just curious how or what you use as criteria with something like that. Valid points.

As for me, I wouldn't write off Miz just yet. Having two good to great messages within a short timeframe as a title holder is something to hang your hat on. That Morrison match on Raw will be considered for a match of the year candidate at the end of 2011. Would I have held off and had it at the PPV? Absolutely. Although having a great title match on free tv is always a plus too. But yes, I would have fleshed that feud out to the Royal Rumble myself.

Miz, I think, is doing okay as a world champion for a couple of reasons. One, he gets a huge reaction from the crowd, each and every time. He has mainstream appeal, even as a heel, which the WWE CRAVES. And lastly, his character is such that getting a flukey win, or a lucky win fits in. He was never a dominant monster like Sheamus or that natural athlete persona that Swagger had. You can pull off a little bit of chicken ****ness with Miz and be okay.

Ratings have been down a little bit the last couple of weeks, but that always happens during this timeframe between the holidays and bowl games and whatnot.

Also, I think we have to change our thinking when it comes to people holding the title and their position within the company. I heard a theory a while back that I think I agree with. Winning the title once does NOT make you a main eventer in the WWE anymore. Winning the title once is like winning the IC title 20 years ago. It means the company sees potential in you and is willing to give you a small shot to see if you can sink or swim.

I think you finally completely break through the glass ceiling once you have multiple reigns under your belt. That shows that the WWE has actual faith in you to be champion. If you look at the guys who have won say, three world titles, it is probably a better look at the WWE's TRUE list of champions.

So overall, I think Miz's reign is incomplete since it has been a small sample size. But the mainstream press has covered his title reign moreso than any other one in recent memory which means it is probably a success in Vince's eyes. Now, if ratings to trend upwards going into one of their marquee PPV's, we may see that sour.

I didn't think you were. I went back and reread my post and it does sound more of a defense than an actual response to your question so for that I apologize. I wasn't trying to be confrontational either.

As for the rest of your post I agree with you even if I don't like it, especially with how the world title isn't as big of a deal as it used to be but like you said that's just how the times are changing. It's funny how 10 to 15 years ago guys were leaving companies on bad terms or viewed as bad guys because they would refuse to drop the title to certain wrestlers (cough Bret Hart cough Shawn Michaels cough Triple H cough Hulk Hogan) and now the wrestlers aren't even allowed to carry the actual belt around with them and it seems like if you make it to the WWE and don't win a single title (even if it's only a tag title) you're considered a bit of a failure. It's almost like everyone is guaranteed at least one reign nowadays.

  17. Samphin

Samphin Κακό σκυλί ψόφο δεν έχει

Yeah, Russo convinced McMahon years ago that the titles were props, nothing more, nothing less. McMahon embraced that philosophy wholeheartedly and here we are today. It is just the end result of years upon years of breaking down the legacy that was. If winning a world title for the first time is the equivilant of winning the IC title from yesteryear, then what does that mean for the IC/US titles? They are essentially worthless. Whihc is sad because it is such an easy booking strategy. Have the IC/US holders defend the belt each week on their respective brands and have them occasionally remind the champ that, technically, they are the number one contender for the BIG title. Make those matchups your TV championship matches every now and again, or have them wrestle another guy for the coveted number one contendership and have yourself a two or three week story arc.

But alas, it doesn't happen, which is too bad.

Well I think another reason (and maybe the biggest reason) why titles are used as props now is due to overexposure of the 12 plus PPVs a year. With one being run every month the WWE might feel forced to make title changes to keep fans ordering each PPV so they don't miss a title change. Back in the late 80s to late 90s when the WWE only ran 4 PPVs (5 starting in 1993 with KOTR but that PPV never draw well) a year those were huge deals and 2 of those PPVs (Survivor Series and Royal Rumble) never had title matches on those PPVs until the early 90s. Of course the WWF ran SNMEs but titles rarely ever changed hands on those shows and even at the start of RAW you maybe had 2 title changes a year on those shows. So champions would keep the titles longer because it would make zero sense to have a new World or IC or Tag title change hands each month or every other month at random house shows or at Superstars/Challenge tapings.

  19. Samphin

Samphin Κακό σκυλί ψόφο δεν έχει

This is true as well. And it won't change since the PPV's are a huge part of WWE's business model. With them being a publicly traded company, if they were to scale back on the number of PPV's, you would see investors drop off like flies when the bottom lines came back. However, for us diehards that watch regardless, our bellyaching doesn't really matter since we are hooked in.

I made a proposal a few years ago to scale the PPV's back to about 6 to 8. You have your Royal Rumble in January, and then nothing until Wrestlemania. Have another PPV in between WM and Summerslam. Another in between SummerSlam and Survivor Series, and then one end of year PPV (although those never tend to sell well). The plan was very detailed with booking scenarios for the entire year with matches, feuds, etc. I don't know if I will ever have the muster to do that again, but it was pretty well received to those I shared it with.

It would make the specialty matches more special as well since currently, the only one that still feels unique to me is the Elimination Chamber, and that is probably mainyl due to the fact that I have never seen one in full. Cage matches, ladder matches, hell in a cell and others are almost as watered down as the titles at this point and THAT should never be.

I don't follow wrestling much, but I do follow MMA. There was a lot of speculation that Vince wanted Brock for wrestlemania and that the UFC wanted him for TUF. He wanted to do Wrestlemania but not TUF so they were working on a deal. Well, he was just announced as a upcoming TUF coach. Any whispering that he makes a Wrestlemania appearance?

No that's been shot down numerous times by Dana White and a lot of people around Brock have said he has no interest in wrestling again. Also the Undertaker is currently injuried now and won't be able to go all at for a WM match. Right now the rumors are the Undertaker will face someoen like Kane or Ezeikel Jackson (with a long short being Wade Barrett) in a short brawling type match just so the Undertaker can continue his streak.

I kind of remember your PPV pitch and thought it was pretty good. Yeah the WWE will never scale back the PPVs because it makes them too much money. Even the ones that have small buyrates will bring in a lot of cash for them.

I rented the Elimination Chamber DVD a few months ago because I never saw a EC match before and by the end of the first disc I was completely burnt out. The match is definitely unique but it gets old fast, I can't imagine being able to watch the EC PPV and seeing 2 of those matches on the same card. It's just overkill.

I would love to see the WWE bring back the War Games match and use that match for the September PPV or heck just use the EC as the main event for that PPV but only have 1 EC match. The War Games match could work as the main event at the Survivor Series since the WWE stopped doing the elimination tag matches.

War Games will never happen since Vince didn't think of it. It is unfortunate because I always liked that concept. I am going to the EC PPV this year, so that will be my first opportunity to see thos ematches in full. I am hoping the live atmosphere makes the matches more palletable.

Yeah I forgot to include the disclaimer that because Vince didn't think of it, it will never happen. Plus EC is sort of like War Games, kind of but not really.

If you haven't seen a full EC match you might enjoy it. I liked seeing the first 3 matches on the DVD but then there's just not a whole lot that is different between one match to the next. Maybe if I didn't watch 5 matches in the span of a few days I wouldn't have been burnt out by it.

The main posters on here want to do a royal rumble game? Basically we each pick an x amount of wrestlers who are in the rumble and you get points based on their order of elimination, how many people they eliminate and ultimately who wins. Its fun with a group of friends...honestly.

Typically you get to pick your wrestlers, based on a predetermined draft order. I don't know if we know all 30 wrestlers yet or not though, do we? It works best with six participants as each one gets 5 wrestlers to pick.

I sat down and watched Smackdown last night. It was the first time in probably ten years that I had watched a wrestling program. Since the WWE was still WWF. I stopped following shortly after Vince bought out WCW and ECW. A lot of new guys in the mix but still some familiar faces. The Big Show [the world's largest jobber last time I watched regularly] for one and Edge. It looks like Edge has come a long way as he was more of an Intercontinental type contender from back in the day. Mysterio is a little bulkier [chunkier] than I remember him [aren't we all though]. It blew my mind when they said that he had won the WWE title a few years ago. I never would have imagined that happening.

Yeah the change from 30 was jarring, but, this allows for some different storytelling down the road. the number one seed NOW seems impossible to last throughout again and the 40th draw is a big deal. Could be interesting. I am willing to give it a chance. I just hope it doesn't make the Rumble TOO long where it becomes tedious.

I'm guessing it will be 60 seconds between each number, which I always hated as everything always feels just too rushed and there seems to always be too many men in the ring at once and it gets distracting. I'm interesting to see how it goes too but I think it's going to be a bit of a train wreck. I said in my previous post I don't like seeing jobbers in the match and have to listen to the announcers try to put them over that they actually have a shot at winning.

Macho Man has been announced he's in the new WWE video game 'All-Stars' and the Macho Man even made a video promoting it. This is leading many people to start to speculate as to whether or not the WWE will finally induct the Macho Man in the HOF this year since they seem to at least be on speaking terms between his new DVD last year, him getting action figures and now in the WWE game. If he went in this year is there ever going to be a better class in terms of work rate with him and HBK?
