With Tebow's contract almost fully guaranteed — all but $567,500 of the $9.713 million deal is guaranteed — through 2014, it's not likely Orton would receive that kind of assurance from the new coaching staff, unless the new coach simply didn't believe Tebow could be a long-term starter in the league. There also is the fact that the Broncos have just six picks in the 2011 draft and exponentially more needs than that to fill. They have their own first-rounder, two picks in the second round, a third-round pick and two sixth-round picks. That's not nearly enough and shows just how bare the cupboard is at the moment. And Orton would be one of a thin roster's most valuable assets in a trade. Both might be available in trade and we could send a guy like Merling (or whoever) to Denver in lieu of a high pick.
If we could do a player for player deal at a position of depth that would be ideal. We are out a 2nd rder and denver could certainly use DL help.
Denver would be on drugs to do that deal. I'm sure a 2nd and 3rd would be the minimum to bring to the table.
Hate to give Starks but Qb's come at a premium. Anybody else like Flynn as much as me? I know small body of work with good talent around him, but I liked him coming out.
id like to see some kind of trade where we give up thigpen as a back up mobile QB, to the broncos or eagles, who both use mobile QB's. and get either kolb or orton as a our starter. we keep henne as a back up and look for a future QB in the draft. im sure we would have to throw something else in too. but i think either of those guys could start here.
I've been rooting for Tebow because I like Orton. Kolb is still unproven, and Flynn has looked okay but again unproven. Regardless of the staff changes that will be coming, this team still has some very good talent on both sides of the ball. Bring in Orton, add a few more pieces, and you could see a much improved product on the field in 2011.
I would love Orton, but I would not give up any high draft picks; we already don't have a second and have too many needs to fill. Also, I wouldn't expect Orton to have the kind of numbers he's been having in Denver, here.
