Wow...talk about a group of fans that doesn’t get it. I thought I would post the teams points scored and points per game rank with every Offensive Coordinator since Dan Marino was the quarterback:

    2009 Miami Dolphins 360 - 15th
    2008 Miami Dolphins 317 - 21st
    2007 Miami Dolphins 267 - 26th
    2006 Miami Dolphins 260 - 29th
    2005 Miami Dolphins 318 - 16th
    2004 Miami Dolphins 275 - 28th
    2003 Miami Dolphins 311 - 17th
    2002 Miami Dolphins 378 - 12th
    2001 Miami Dolphins 344 - 8th
    2000 Miami Dolphins 323 - 16th

Unbelievable! Only “Twice” in “10 YEARS” has an offense of the Miami Dolphins finished above “15th” in the league in points per game.

So why again is our quarterback not Jay Fiedler? And how again is it everyone else’s fault but the quarterback?

Come on Zod. A QB needs 1,000 throws, two all-pro receivers, a star tight end, a fast runner and a pounder just to be safe, and offensive system tailored specifically to his strengths, plus an o-line comprised of at least 3 pro bowlers before you can even begin to make a fair evaluation of a guy.

Is it not amazing what statistics can prove. Clearly we need Jay Fiedler's arm matched up with Norv Turner's offense. It's clear as day. We need 2001 all over again. 2001 was only messed up by the 11th ranked defense.

In 2002 the 11th ranked defense went to 4th. Clearly the right person was hired.

In 2002 the 8th ranked offense went to 12th. Clearly someone needed to be fired.

Take those offensive stats, and put the Offensive Coordinator's name next to them, and marvel at the number of times some OC has become the subject of "experts" disguised as fans have called for their heads, only to replace them with a OC who does worse, or about the same.

Every 2 yrs or so a new Offensive Coordinator, only "this time, he will make it better!"

I have heard that crap for 10 yrs, and each time the "Magic Coordinator" fails to deliver, undaunted though, the drum is merely banged for someone new to come after the last one flamed out.

The plain fact is, it takes more time to develop a consistently good offense than it does to develop a consistently good defense, Dolphins Fans have the patience of a gnat so somehow that is lost on them.

    Or the latest one:

ZOMG Andrew Luck is a Peyton Manning! Trade whatever you have to trade to draft him!!!!!!!!!!

The fact the Panthers may think he is Peyton Manning as well thusly unlikely to trade out from the pick, as in "not gonna do it" unlikely, is somehow not a thought that enters the view screen..

Why are you talking about the coordinator Padre? I'm talking about the quarterback. I want Jay Fiedler back under center. I'm sick of this crap. Go get me Jay Fiedler! Now if you need statistics, I am well armed. You just try and give me the business. I'll jump all over you like a sack of fleas with my statistics. C'mon...... I dare you!

Exactly what point are you trying to make? That our QB is at fault? That it's not Henning's fault, despite his obvious ineptness in game situations?
Sorry, but stats are for losers. The only stat that counts is the win-loss column, and you only get the Ws by scoring more points than the other team. When you only score one TD a game, those occasions become rare.

Because the current state of affairs is nothing new Zod, from "bench Henne NOWWW!!!" to "Dan Henning is a moron!!!"

Have heard the same stuff for yrs now.

That said, even on your list, 2010 stands out for being such a terrible performance, even the Legendary Trent Green/John Beck/ Cleo Lemon 07 1-15 season, the Offense performed better than the Henne/Henning Duet of Suck.

The offense during the 2007 season also performed better than the Joey Blue Skies/Mularkey combination, and I think it's been proven where the problem was there.

Well moving forwards, the impetus for changes on offense is obvious as that dog food is not fooling any opponent's defense.

Quite literally, we would be better served just pounding the ball for 3.6 per carry, then bringing out Thigpen to run Qb play options.

Don't know if you ever listen to the offensive players being interviewed, but what they are saying is:

"It all works on paper we just have to execute"

Which is odd as Hartline and Ybell were interviewed and Bullfrog pointed out "yeah but you also have to put guys in positions to succeed" to which Hartline said 'you have me boxed in, I have no place to go.."

Good post and thank you for helping further illustrate how "horrid" Henning's career as an OC has been. Since Marino has retired our starting QBs have been:

Fiedler, Huard, Lucas, Griese, Feeley, Rosenfels, Frerotte, Culpepper (injured), Harrington, Lemon, Green, Beck, Pennington, Henne, and Thigpen.

Perhaps the worst group of starting QBs any franchise has had over the past 10 years. Basically a group of castoffs, 2nd and 3rd stringers, and/or injured players.

Yet, Miami's offense has been able to put up equivalent (actually slightly better) numbers than offenses when Henning is the OC.

I probably couldn't think of another group of stats to show how inept Henning has been as an OC. Thanks again for further illustrating the point...

So it was Chad Pennington's fault that we finished 21st in the league in scoring in 2008 against the worst schedule in the history of the Miami Dolphins?

That 2008 offense only jumped up 5 spots from the 1-15 2007 Miami Dolphins. The worst football team in Franchise history. And this is not an indictment of Dan Henning? A real OC may have jumped up a helluva lot more than 5 spots with a guy like Chad P an improved OL and against that creampuff schedule

EDIT: And with almost the exact same offense, the Dolphins went from 21 in 2008 with Chad P to 15 in 2008 with Chad Henne with one of the hardest schedules in the league. I'm not sure if you didn't just further prove that Henne isn't as much as the problem as many think and Henning is more of a problem than you think. (although I do think Henne is a chunk of the problem)

Mularkey is a good portion of the reason why I find the play calling guru despicable. Amazingly he wasn't a favorite of Armando's neither.

ANother interesting trend is that Shula, the winningest coach in NFL history, managed to do quite well with Dan Marino, sure, but actually won his Superbowl with Griese.

We did better under better coaching.

    That's a trend too, no?

I'm not refuting what you said, mind you. I happen to agree. I just think there has to be a healthy marriage between QB talent and great coaching. Great coaches can win with good QBs, good coaches can win with great QBs. Where you run into the problem is with inconsistently goo to decent coaches paired with inconsistently good to average QBs.

TO be fair to Mularkey, Saban did not allow him to do a ground level install of his own offense. He made him keep and adapt Linehan's offense. Running another OC's offense is not likely to put you at your best.

I hated Mularkey, nonetheless, but I think he got more criticism than fully deserved.

I think Shula did more to promote (all the while harming) this game as a chairman of the rules committee than he did as a coach in his later years. And he did it (unknowingly) at the cost of coaching. It fit his needs at the time though. He had Dan Marino.

The one common denominator in those SB wins and appearances?

Some DefCord named Bill Arnsparger, he was there for 4 of 5 SB appearances the Franchise made:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Arnsparger

In 1993 he was the Chargers DeFcord for their only SB appearance.

No Name Defense, Killer B's, that was Arnsparger and he rarely receives credit or even mention.

They also made it to the SB with WoodStrock, of course that was during the pre Emo days when pulling a Qb did mean ":omg: how will his confidence ever recover!!!" being asked, or even thought of...

So in 2001 we had the 8th ranked offense and our running back averaged 3.1 yards per carry (much worse than anything we've had for a while)

I know I'll get a lot of crap for this but Jay Fiedler was underrated. Our best WR was a rookie Chris Chambers. There's a reason we had winning records every year but one under him. This years defense and running game are better than Jay's team in 01 and he got it done as best as he could with ****ing Jed Weaver, Lamar Smith, and James McKnight starting in his offense. IMO the only QB we've had any better was Chad Pennington, the only guy more fragile than Jay LOL.

3500 yards of offense and 24 total TDs by a QB who had one of the worst running games in the league is SOLID.

We did NOT have the "8th ranked offense" in 2001... our team was 8th in points scored. What's the difference you ask? The team had 6 defensive touchdowns that year. 42 points not scored by the offense. Take out even half of those and we were in the bottom half of the league.

The 2001 offense was ranked 21st in yards.

I don't blame you, he did lead us to our worst ppg showing of the past 10 years! Indeed, after that horrid offensive output we went out and got an offensive minded head coach and we jumped three places. Clearly, he was the wrong guy for the job.

Got my ball signed by the killer B's as a kid. Been pretty patient. Dolphin Football is hard to enjoy since Dan. That was a long time ago. I have already argued with you regarding the sucky QB we have. Our logic goes in different directions.

Well, the other thing I've learned over the years is "my" timetable..does not matter whatsoever, a return to being a consistent Contender, with a asset at Qb could happen in the next 3 games, it could happen in the next 7 yrs, it could happen as soon as the Draft via a trade or signing a Free Agent.

    Or not at all.

Well let me tell you all what we all wish this list looked like... Fiedler, Huard, Lucas, Griese, Feeley, Rosenfels, Frerotte, Brees, Brees, Brees (playoffs), Brees (playoffs), Brees (needs more weapons so lets bring in marshall behind a great o-line that should have never been fu**ed with after 2009, bess steps up and plays great, SUPERBOWL!)

I agree. We all agree that our QB play has been less than average. It is hard to take out the poor play calling and other issues like protection breakdowns and come up with an answer. I see other teams going down field to their big guy. Our Big guy has a safety over the top. Got to blame a lot on Henning.

Among other reasons, though I do agree with you on playcalling, but suspect Chad Henne has much to do with "why" those plays are being called it is a sort of Synergism of Suckage that has swallowed the offense whole this season with cascading failures in every phase of the Offensive Side of the Football.

Literally, there is not a single unit that is not blameless, couple that with Henne's odd regression being matched to no time to really "Be" patient with him and small wonder we are in a bad way.

As to specific play calls, why does a play work once, then is never seen again?

-Fasano throwback to the Te for a TD in Green Bay..not seen since
-Thigpen in the Pistol..never heard from again
-Marshall in the slot..we probably will not see that again with the addition of Curtis

I made the point that fans have called for OC's scalps for the last 10 yrs, this time I agree, Henning should retire for good.
