Here is photographic evidence of Rex watching his 6 guys hit the Miami player rather than watching the ball in play on the other end of the field. The Jets have 6 men man to man on the side line to get in the way. You can see Rex 6 feet away and slightly behind. Is he looking at the ball which was kicked to the other end of the field? No he is watching his guys about to take out the Miami player out of bounds.

This is why they didn’t fire the guy. It was a set up and if he is fired then he talks. Bet he got a nice Christmas bonus.

While of course this adds suspicion to the situation. I'm not sure we have enough to prove anything here.

While im all for bashing Rex, the ball is probably in the air if the Gunner is just getting off his block(push out of bounds) . Rex is just looking at the coverage.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees a bigger picture here. There is no way those six guys just happened to be lined up, toes on the line, looking back as Carroll comes their way. And then not one of them makes any effort to get out of the way when they all see him coming?? Now that assistant is jumping up and down screaming "it's me, I did it, I take responsibility" to get this off the table as quickly as possible so no one puts the rest of the puzzle together.

Rex had this planned all along. They probably noticed a tendency for Carrol to take the sideline route, told the defenders to bait him to go toward the sideline, and had the line of six setup waiting for him.

Or maybe they just happened to be perfectly lined up right off that line...

On the video you can see that he is watching this, not the ball. He then walks over within 3 feet of him when he is down to take a look but after the game says he didnt see anything. This is a clear set up.

I have no doubt with the way the coaches are lined up that the Jets coach this idea of creating interference in these situations. Going or being pushed out of bounds happens often on these plays. I'm sure other teams do it also, if the guy doesn't stick out a knee its all legal and they legally impede progress. Sportsman like no, but i just can't say there is evidence from this to think Rex is stupid enough to only care about watching Nolan get cut down. makes no sense.

he's doing all he can within the rules but against the spirit of the game. But, the key point is, the play happened in large part because the Jets sideline was setting up a play for Carroll to run into the coaches and for the coaches to be ready to be hit and not move.

While one can't blame Rex for the trip, it's obvious their stance and positioning was premeditated and that whole intent is what led to the situation where the coach reacted. Rex is just the irresponsible bartender giving drinks away - setting up guys to be in a position for something bad to happen.

There is no doubt in my mind that Rex, and his coaches lined up like that for a reason. I don't think it was so they could hurt someone intentionally though but it came back to bite Ryan in the ***....

He said he didnt see the trip i see no evidence that he did. NOW i will say for him to state he knew nothing about it at the presser is very suspect. Someone had to tell him all about it. The announcers were nuts over it .

I agree with everyone that the jets intentionally line up on these plays that way.

BUT this thread is about photo evidence that Rex watched it happen and intentionally watched to see it happen instead of watching the ball. Just dont see that happening IMO

Something to remember. There had previously been that play where Carrol was flagged for not coming back inbounds on punt coverage. Is it really that crazy of a thought that Ryan would have suggested to his coaches to line up and not budge if it happened again? The pictures & video do make Ryan look suspect on this. With his mentality, it wouldn't be in the least bit surprising to me.

Looked pretty obvious to me that he saw Carrol fall and walked toward him. It also looks like an intentional wall ala a free kick in soccer. Kinda funny how he threw all his expendable coaches out there to block and none of his players. Yup, "Tripgate" is official...

I'm pretty sure it was Rashad Jones who went out the first time but the only sense it would make to line them up like that would be so that the gunner would have to go behind them, making him run out of bounds for an extra 10 yards or so. Resulting in another penalty.

That was about the only counter they could muster against a punter that was knocking the living snot out of the ball everytime he kicked it....

I think it's pretty obvious Rex told his guys to form a wall, and it got out of hand. This is just another in a long line of examples of why Rex's big-mouthed wanna-be-bully nonsense is embarrassing and bad for the game. I also feel the coach (Sal Whoever) was honest in his apology, and his punishment was just. I think he's probably just a guy who was trying to be tough in front of his peers, got all rah-rah-Johnny-team-player for his coach, and wound up doing a dumb thing.

I also feel like Rex Ryan is directly responsible for his guys lining up the way they did, it's obvious he told them to do it, and I feel he should be fined, as well. He won't be, but he definitely should be.

What a low-life scumbag. It's been a real joy to watch the Dolphins and Patriots own his sorry a$$.

NFL "investigating" the possible conspiracy. Though I doubt anything will come out of it.

Rex denying any involvement is laughable at best. Hey Fatboy, you are the man in charge and just remember the words of the great Harry Truman, who had a sign on his desk that said: "The buck stops here" So don't try to pass the buck Tubby. As the head coach you are responsible for the actions of all your assistants. The proverbial buck stops with you. Lardo.

I was going to post this from Mortensen too. Chris said this last night in the pregame show and said the league was going to inform teams not to have players/sideline personnel lined up in this fashion. I believe the coaches were instructed to do this by Rex or Westhoff, but I also believe that Alosi did the knee thing on his own.

Well Alosi held his own press conference and apologized. He said that he wasn't instructed and that he wasn't thinking. He sounded remorseful. The video is on the jets official site.

It's still inexcusable and the guy's a douche.

Personally, in my mind I don't doubt thats what it was at all. He obviously set it up, hell if you look in the game pictures thread, theres a clearer screen cap of Ryan standing there, staring at Carroll down on the ground, and he's got a smirk on his face like he's happy about it. Its obvious this is exactly what he wanted to have happen. Maybe not have him get hurt, but at least create enough of a problem that it might draw another flag. It's ridiculous that you would put a player, and possibly even one of your own coaches health at steak just for another measly 15 yards. But hey, thats how the jets play football I suppose. Its a joke.

It's pretty hard to prove any conspiracy. Alosi wasn't fired, so he will be back. The team may even be "paying" the fine, who really knows (like he'll get a $25K bonus at the end of the year...). That's just taking care of your own, if in fact there was some sort of conspiracy. I believe that even Fat Rex didn't expect Alosi to stick his knee out there and trip Carroll. I do believe that he/Westhoff/someone determined that they may get some interference or advantage by lining those guys up there like they did. The Fins gunners were running in the white all day long and by lining those guys up there, it may or may not give them an advantage. It wasn't illegal for them to line up the way they did to 'discourage' the using of the sidelines by our guys. However, it was not only illegal, but immoral, untrustworthy, disgusting and cheating for him to stick that knee out there. If that action was also 'premeditated', shame on him, the Rex, Westhoff, and everyone in the organization up to and including Woody. Of course, as I said, there really isn't anything that proves that. The stills are circumstantial. As to Rex saying he doesn't remember, with everything going on for a HC in a game, I'm surprised they remember half of what they do. That said, this incident is despicable and just more fodder in the Miami-jests rivalry...

I have never noticed people lined up on the sideline quite the way the Jets staff was in this game on any other game. So my question at this point would be, Is this a common practice throughout the NFL to do this kind of thing or is it something that the Jets came up with on their own? My guess would be that it is a fairly common practice by all teams but I have never had the cause to look for it before.

The knee just took it to a different level.

That sounded sincere and remorseful too, even though I made it up.

This guy should be out of the league for life. If for no other reason then to make sure unscrupulous bastards like Ryan & Bellicheat, don't hire disposable coaches for purposes like this or find other loopholes. If it is found out that Ryan had a part in this (no doubt) he should be removed permanently from the league as well.

for those that don't believe rex put them up to this just watch hard knocks.that orginaization is nothing but a bunch of thugs and hoodlums and it all trickles down from the coach.there is no place in the nfl for that.we are supposed to act proffessional and teach kids proper sportsmanship.any of you read that the guy that did it got sportsmanship awards in college.it seems to me a guy like that doesn't do something like that unless told to do so by his coach.

My guess is that Rex or Westoff instructed them to line up that way in hopes of drawing another penalty on the Dolphins. I doubt that they expected that it could cause an injury. It seems obvious to me that having people stand in the way of somebody running full speed could potentially cause injury. IMO it sounds like the typical adolescent type of thinking that Rex has shown in the past. Its speaking or acting without thinking through the possible ramifications. For some that comes with experience.
