The one theme I can pick up on is that the writers are apparently showing Dexter's progression from a "monster" to a normal human being complete with complex emotions. Seems to me they are gearing up for him eventually leaving his dark passenger behind and likely, as you said, being revealed to Deb the one person he really cares for besides his kids. It makes sense to me to have Season 6 be the final season bringing all this together. The one thing I worry they may do is keep stretching this out and overdoing it. As you suggested how much more can they string this along without it becoming repetitive and boring killing what has made the show so popular in the first place (its uniqueness). The way I understood it was that she led the police to where all the Barrel Girls were tortured and murdered. Still that doesn't explain the fact that the police just quit searching for Jordan lol.
Big plot hole: The car that Dexter stole. I seriously doubt they got rid of it in time. No way to flip it over. So, it was there when the police converged on the scene. So, what happens when the owner of the car reports it stolen from Liddy's crime scene, and it turns up at Chase's hideout the same day? I bet that comes back in the season premeire next year.
Haha, I was actually thinking the same thing driving into work today. It didn't make any sense. Unless of course there was blood left on the table and floor of the basement and police determined that there was enough to assume Jordan was dead. Of course then there would be the case of who killed Jordan so yeah it doesn't make much sense. I agree completely well said. I honestly thought that Dexter was going to be found out by Deb this season just because he was really screwed at the beginning of the season. I'm not sure how the writers could come up with another similar storyline like that now, especially since Quinn is really the only one who suspected him and now they have a mutual understanding of things. I do like how finally Dexter is showing emotion and is possibly starting to work towards releashing his 'dark passenger'. Like you I think next season should be the last so the show doesn't become a parody of itself like 24, for example, became. A show like this one can only last so long and while yes I thought the final 5 or 6 episodes were really good, I think this was one of the weakest seasons, if not the weakest (I would need to rewatch Season 2 again). I was really bored watching those first few episodes until Dexter agreed to to let Lumen help him.
Good call about the car but I don't know, I doubt it will come back. It seems like everything was wrapped up pretty well and there will be something new to do next season. If they were going to go back to the car next season I think there would have been a little throwaway line about it. It just seems like the writers didn't even want to bother explaining how Deb 'solved the case' to worry about a minor detail about a car.
Deb solved the case by linking the murders to Jordan; she called in the camp site, which is owned by "eugene". She also said "chase is missing" But Miami Metro "knows" who killed the girls..... I too was puzzled not only by the red car being left there, but how did dexter survive the crash without a scratch? Seriously, how many car crashes can Dexter be involved in, that roll over, and still come out unscathed. Also, how did Deb not get clipped by the bulldozer on her way in or by the flipped over red car. Where did Jordan chase's car go? How did they get out of there, clean up the mess and bag the body within an hour?
While Deb did solve the case of who else was involved with the girls, the fact is the case isn't closed because at least in the police's eye Jordan Chase is either still on the run or if the police know that 'Girl 13 & Friend' killied him, shouldn't they be looking for them now? The way the scene was done it made it seem like the police were done with the whole case. It was poorly handled, most likely because the writers backed themselves into a corner and also now that the viewer knows what utlimately happened to Chase we don't need to care about the investigation anymore. Yeah, the more you think about this show there's tons of plot holes in not only last night's episode but in the whole series (although one can easily pick apart any TV show and come up with plot holes). It just seems like everything gets wrapped up nice and easy for Dexter, almost too easy. That's one of the things that annoys me about this show. Dexter has the best lucky/timing with everything he does and the times he does get caught it gets fixed fairly quickly.
While we are at it, how did lumen survive the pistol whip to the head. It was right on her temple; not even a concussion... There are tons of plot holes....The thing with Jordan CHase missing, and him being linked to the murders, wouldnt that make him a serial killer? Now Deb is caught in a lie; but i assume there will be no further explaination on this season and next season will be another caper....
Yeah Dexter is full of plot holes but most that I can point to were in this season. In past seasons it seemed most suspected plot holes were answered at the end of the season but this year not so much. Two things that bugged me happened very early in the season. Anyone remember in one of the first episodes where Dexter burns down his storage unit with all his possessions inside? How does no one notice a burning storage shed and not call the owner? Things got even stranger when in that same episode Dexter killed the guy in the restroom. How did he dispose of the body? How did no one ask any questions because he certainly didn't have the time or equipment to clean the crime scene as normal right? Also one thing that bothered me about this season was that it essentially had the same plot line as season 3 where Dexter was revealed to Miguel and season 2 where a fellow cop (Doakes now Quinn) was trying to nail Dexter for something. Luckily for me Dexter's actual progression as a human being was reason enough to tune in and I still think Michael C Hall does a superb job as the Dexter character. With all the problems, though, Dexter is still easily my favorite show on TV. I just hope they wrap this up soon or find new plot line inspiration at least.
because of the ritual. he has to recreate it. so he had to lure them in to the camp. otherwise its not the same. of course, we didnt know this until sunday, though could have inferred it
something i was thinking about was the similarity of the knife wounds with liddy and chase. you have to wonder what dexter was thinking with liddy, even just to be extra careful and make some extra stabs to make it look like it was done by an amateur or a crime of passion
true, but your average person or fictional character does not receive the benefit of the doubt and unconditional support from police detectives or have the ability to access, delete and tamper with evidence that is directly tied to him. without the second ability, he would have been in jail in the first season with the tranquilizer purchase
im surprised nobody is talking about deb's comment in the end about dexter also being happy that things are over. what did she mean by that? what else can she be referring to? does she already know? quinn can deduce that dexter likely is the one that killed liddy
Dexter got rid of Chase's body, that's why him and Lumen were on the boat at the end dumping it into the ocean. The police or Deb never had time to inspect the wounds etc. Yeah I read a few message boards and people have been bringing it up. I think she meant about the barrel girl case being over. I don't think Deb knows. If she did there would have been a scene about it, Deb finding out is much too big to just be a throwaway line like that.
All loose ends seemed to have been tied up .Lumen was signed through this season so she has to disappear.Quinn is beholding to Dexter so he is not likely to make waves although he must suspect him. Strange that Deb did not want to take a look at the killers before letting them go .My theory is that Deb probably suspects that Dexter is one of the vigilantes .....maybe even that he is a serial killer. Dexter's brother was one and a lot of strange serial killings have occured while she has been an investigator .They form a pattern of vigilantism .She could be adding things up and she is protecting him. On to the next season .
I don't know, there's been no evidence of that at all on Deb's part to suggest that. She has no reason to think that nor has she ever picked up on any clues of it. If Deb did suspect that then surely the viewers would know about it.
Michael C. Hall and Jennifer carpenter to divorce after 2 yrs of marriage. http://www.starmagazine.com/michael_c_hall_jennifer_carpenter_divorce/news/17687 Maybe she does know!
the whole thing requires just a little bit of mental math to put the entire thing together. she looked at chase. she is a homicide detective. a simple once over would have her notice what killed chase. then again, she wasnt there to look at liddy. maybe that was just batista going over it. idk. but the whole thing is right in front of everyone.

i hate when actors talk about their characters. sort of like having a conversation with themselves in the 4th person lol
I doubt Quinn will say anything to her. It seemed like he and Dexter had a mutual understanding at the end of the episode. Quinn knows something is up with Dexter, Dexter knows he knows, Quinn probably knows Dexter killed Liddy, but also knows Dexter saved his butt so he's going to shut up about it because of Deb.
Did you guys realize that Chase was played by Johnny Lee Miller; He was in Hackers with Angelina Jolie, who he married for a short time. All season long i couldnt place him. I knew i had seen him before....finally googled him today...
I wonder what Dex and Deb being divorced will do to next season. Will they write her out of it - or at least limit her role? I think the show could continue but they need to just ditch the serial killer aspect. Have Dexter be a killer and focus on his family obligations and being chased by police / etc. He doesn't HAVE to be chasing one specific serial killer.
The divorce will have zero impact on the show. The bigger impact is that for the 3rd time in 3 seasons they are changing the show runner (basically the guy in charge or approving story lines etc.).
I have been re watching season 1. This last season seems so flat stylistically. What drew me in at first was the camera work. A lot of that seems gone Sent from my DROID2 using Tapatalk
I agree, I was watching reruns of the 1st season here on american forces network recently and I noticed the 1st season was very different style wise. The 1st season might still be my favorite but I've enjoyed them all. Hard to top that first season it was just such a fresh show with great dark humor and great characters.
Yeah. There is a surreal quality that has vanished. Its a bit too explicit now for lack of a better word. I never liked the actor that played dexters brother. Ritas husband was great. Harry is still prefect Sent from my DROID2 using Tapatalk
Yeah Season 1 is my favorite followed by Season 4. I think Season 1 felt different because it was something new and fresh and the viewer had no idea where the story was going. Now the show, while still good, falls into the same formula each season so the viewer knows for the most part what to expect besides from a twist here or there. Dexter is much like 24 in that aspect, where it was still entertaining but you knew what to expect since there was no real difference between the seasons because of that basic formula.
