So I understand the importance of firearms during the zombie apocalypse and all....but it seems like they are being made out to be rare and hard to come by. What ever happened to gun stores? I mean, even Wal-Mart carries rifles and shotguns .

I suppose they could already be ransacked being that this isnt really the beginning of the events, but this is America...there are guns everywhere and especially so in Georgia. I would think that Ammunition would be at a much higher priority.

As to someone mentioning silencers. Those on the other hand are not common at all, being as they arent even legal for civilian use as far as I know. They could make some crude silencers using some pretty common materials like PVC...but it would take much know-how and a machine shop to pull it off. Not exactly practical with the cities being overrun.

Well, the premise for the "Zombie Horde" always throws me off, so these people are infected with some zombifying virus, and wander around looking for non infected people to eat.

How long are they supposed to shamble around before they run out of non infected people to munch on? Won't they eventually begin eating each other?

It's not like the zombies are out raising livestock to feed other people so they can eat them..:D

Didn't like this episode very much.

Everytime Ray (?) tries to say Carl I lmao. That actor really has trouble not speaking with his accent at times.

Since they're dead, it's not like running out of food can really hurt them. They remain hungry until the end of time I suppose.

I thought the last 5 minutes were definitely pretty cool.
I'm glad they wiped out the wife beatin' douche but it's too bad about the blonde girl. For a minute I was thinking that Merl allowed himself to be followed up into the hills like the Pied Piper, to exact revenge on being left for dead. But they never showed him.

Well it really depends on the source material, but I would look at some of the classics like Romero's work. The general thought on this topic coming from the 3rd film, Day of the Dead(based in miami btw) was that they slowly deteriorate from natural conditions like the Sun. The danger was though, that they would be around long enough so that survivors would be mostly wiped out already. That was the premise of the 3rd film where they were all trying to outlast it all while in a military bunker underground....though their fate was sealed because of their "zombie farming" lol.

Romero's work really was the best, and tbh I see more influence from him in Walking Dead than the more modern Zombie films that cash in from his success in bringing a new subgenre to the scene. Some people may complain that TWD is using predictable formula with the racial tension, but my view is that the writing behind it was really paying homage to the early works of Romero that was filled with social themes. Its not all about zombies just ripping people apart, there was always a context to his movies that would make subtle points...whether it be about racism(Night), consumerism(Dawn), or the military industry complex(Day).

It was Merl who drove them up there stampede style. Think about it...they've had a single stray up to that point, but then a whole flood shows up? Not to mention Merl was far ahead of them and you know he's looking for revenge...he had plenty of time to set it up.

The original Night of the Living Dead happened to be released around the time MLK was assassinated.

Sure that may work somewhat for a very limited use...maybe to take out a lone wandering zombie but it would still create a loud bang. Firing through any object is going to screw with ballistic trajectory though, so its not exactly practical for any kind of long range shooting. Also, the 2 liter bottle would certain to be almost useless. It could only slightly trap the gases required to suppress sound, probably only lowering the effect by a few decibels. In this scenario it would still probably attract unwanted attention.

A custom home built silencer would work for a good 200-300 rounds before needing to be replaced, and could be fit on nearly any firearm they would be using. Exceptions being a weapon that has built in ventilation that would be pretty much impossible to suppress, such as a revolver.

You'll both love the series more and more then. Kirkman is a huge Zombie fan in general and really loves the Romero stuff (as do I).

I'm loving this show BUT some things bother me. I've seen them walk right by mounted machine guns more then once without even checking them out. Would it not be a decent idea to grab one of those, mount it to the RV and have some heavy weaponry?

I liked tonight's episode even though it was a bit slow. Not every episode can be a zombie rape run and gun fest. Next week is key, they need to end with a bang so everyone craves next season.

The mounted guns you've seen have all been in the highly infested areas of the city. Do you take the time to try to dismount it, transport it, and remount it to a new vehicle? How much noise would you generate trying to dismount those guns? They are still very confused and making the quickest choices possible with the least amount of risk. Risk vs. Reward.

Forget the mounted guns, how about the ****ing tank?

And how do the dead even take out something like a tank? You'd imagine whoever was inside would be secure enough to just annihilate everything in sight.

I'm saying how do the tanks even get taken out? I'd think they'd be inpenetrable and could just keep steam rolling the dead.

I'm just sayin you'd think they'd at least mention why they didn't try to work that tank Rick was stuck in.

Well if we are really trying to ask serious questions, just how in the world were the walkers able to defeat the military? I don't think it would take much for the president to order a couple of missile strikes and bombing runs in our own backyard

being stuck in the tank without food or water, they had to venture out themselves and get the supplies with all supply lines overan by the walkers.

I could see not wanting to blow up live people but ya I wana see how they explain that.

Or they could drive somewhere in the tank lol I'd just think once people started using the tanks it'd be a wrap just by running over all the walkers. Not to mention the artilery.

what kind've gas does a tank use? how do you start a tank? how do you steer it? how do you work it? what are all those buttons? How do you stop it? how do you make turns in tight quarters? does it have "reverse" ?

You are making it seem like this is a dodge durango and any random Winn-Dixie cashier or cop can get in and drive it like its a random car.....

Enless GI Joe is with them, i dunno how its common knowledge to be able to just jump into a machine that people are extensivley trained to use, and know how to work it?

You think? I mean seriously, how do you know? Like i said, some people cant drive a ****ing stick shift these days....you think some random office workers, cops, and kids are gunna know how to drive, opperate or even turn on a military machine with ease?

    This isnt call of duty....

I agree, the random joe off the street wouldn't be able to figure out how to drive a tank. That's why I said guys like us. People that have a reasonable amount of intelligence.

I think if I plopped you down into a tank, you'd figure it out before long.

Especially when you would literally "have to" figure it out.

Heck put teenage girls in them and tell them to drive while texting and the shamblers would be cut down in oh, half a day or so.

I'm a bit of a misanthrope, so I'll say it about ANYBODY. Those guys may be doing a noble deed by serving, but at the end of the day, they are just people.

The vast, overwhelming majority of your fellow human beings are borderline ******ed. It amazes me that these people can even dress themselves in the morning.

lol... I think if you're stuck in a tank with zombies trying to get in... and you're stuck for a couple of days, you'd figure out how to move the thing... not like you are worried about hurting your surroundings at that point...

As to the refueling problem... not like you can pull into a gas station and say fill 'er up (with diesel), or even fill up the tank yourself since the pump would be activated by payment first.. and with the power out, that's not an option. Perhaps find a rig and drain the diesel out of it?

But these guys are nuts... driving around in a jeep for example... I'd go the route of that one zombie movie with the armor protected vehicle. Its the only way to be sure...

One thing to remember is that we are all watching this knowing what zombies are and that this is a zombie show. If this were a real situation, how long would it take to figure out what was wrong with these people - and how much longer would it take to figure out that the bite is what transmitted the disease and that it wasn't like, say, swine flu.

So someone could be infected and pulled into a hospital or a military base and then bites someone else, who bites someone else, etc. And of course if a loved one gets bitten people are going to try to save them, which is only going to result in more zombies.

Come on man, it's not like people wouldn't notice and quickly that when people are bitten they turn into zombies.

"Is that Fred? Yeah he's been sick, now his Wife and three children are sick and I watched Fred eat the clerk at Walmart.."

That is the problem I have with the show it requires too much suspension of belief along with non infected being low grade dunces.

Hmm, how about instead of sneaking around, the non infected just make a ton of noise, wait for the walkers to show up, then drop molotov cocktails on them?

Of course the city would eventually burn down, but at that point that would be the least of your worries.

With all the zombie shows/movies that have been made over the last two decades, we fail as a species if we don't recognize it when it happens.

We've been prepared our entire lives!
