If Thigpen is the QB, I wouldn't count on a six game winning streak. Did they say when Henne is coming back?

i agree. i can easily see the jets losing at new england and pittsburgh, and if we were to win out that would mean we will have beaten the jets to give them their 5th loss. thats when the tiebreakers get tricky.

assuming the jets do lose those games and we win out, heres how it would go.

1st tiebreaker- head to head= split
    2nd tiebreaker- division record= miami 4-2, jets 4-2
3rd tiebreaker- conference record- miami 8-4, jets 8-4
4th tiebreaker- common opponents- miami will have beaten buffalo twice and the pats once and the jets once, as would the jets have done the same exact thing. then we lost to baltimore as did they, we lost to pitt, as would they have if this scenario plays out, we we beat cincy, as will they have, they beat cleveland, as would we have, we both beat minn, we both will have beaten det in this scenario, we beat gb and they lost to gb, but we lost to chi, and they will have beaten chi in this scenario, so common opponents in this scenario = tie.

i believe the 5th tiebreaker is strength of sched, correct me if im wrong, and we only play 2 different opponents and if it got down to that, we prob would win bc they played houston and den, who are a combined 7-13, and we played tenn and oak, who are a combined 10-10 now. we look good on that edge.

that is our best chance, correct me if im wrong with the tiebreaker scenarios, im doing this on the top of my head.

Cinci is signing guys off of the street to play defensive back and they have less than 15 sacks..

I picked the ravens because they have the most difficult schedule heading down to the wire.

And "yes" a loss to Oakland would be pretty much the torpedo in the boiler room.

If they would utilize Ced Ben properly I would say they have a good shot..

Worried a little less about that than about the O-Line. If the O-Line can't get healthy then it doesn't matter as much. I have no idea why they decimated the middle of it after last season, when the Dolphins finished 4th in rushing even after the starting RB went down. And now it's even worse since they are hurting. And that was supposed to be their specialty. Thigpen would be able to do stuff if he had time, not as much as Henne, but still. I guess facing the Raiders instead of the 2nd best defense in the NFL will help.

Playing with a 3rd string QB, a 3rd string center, Jake Long with one arm. Run game can't win alone anyway, but with a Hospital Wing oline it's even worse for them to try and make something happen.

A few months ago I posted in the AFCE Forum my prediction for the Jets final record. I had them at 10-6, including a loss to Denver. So if it plays out as I predicted, they will finish 11-5 with wins over the Bengals, Chicago and Buffalo and losses to NE, MIA, PIT. Basically .500 ball for the rest of the season. I think that is a conservative forcast, but they could lose to Chicago and end up with original prediction of 10-6. So 3-3 gets them to 11 and 2-4 get them to 10.

Obviously Miami had no room for error. They almost have to win out. A loss to Oak would be devastating. Even if that is the only game they lose the rest of the way, it would leave their conference record at 3-5 with the best it could be at 7-5. The Jets in my 10-6 scenario would end up 8-4.

At this point, a loss puts any playoffs hopes that this team has out of the picture. The Dolphins have to dig themselves out of a hole basically and they get zero time off. We are just lucky we are facing four teams that aren't considered powerhouses by any means.. and then two powerhouses that are division rivals.

I'd agree with the loss puts us out of the playoffs statement assuming the loss isn't to the lions.

i agree, if the dolphins lose one more game, they r officially done. i still think that even 11-5 may not be good enough due to all our tiebreakers we dont have.

The way the Pats and Jets win their games, sometimes it just seems as if fate guides them all the way while ****ing the Dolphins in the process. It's a weird feeling I have and only for the 'Phins.

True to a point, at this rate the games with the Jets and Pats that we have may not matter in terms of the AFCE.

Loser between the two teams it the #1 WC seed.

That means that final slot is in play, and that means the Ravens, 6 games to go, if they win 4, we are done as their 11-5 would beat ours.

So if folks are going to be negative, at least point out that the season can effectively be over in mid to late December, a 11 win Ravens team means no playoffs for the Dolphins.

IDK if it is a hole, or the fact the AFC is just really tough this year, even the typical AFCW doormats have perked up this season.

When you can realistically reach 10 wins, and still not have a real shot at the playoffs, what else can they do but curse cruel fate and prepare for the lockout and draft?

Agreed. I thought we would start 4-4, and finish 10-6, a playoff team. A number of others had the same thoughts. I was dead wrong in thinking the O would be carrying the D but, the same results appear to be possible. No one considered the injuries or the problems in running the ball.

Now, we "should" win four more game, with a fair chance in the other two. IF we win 9-10 games I will be satisfied, playoffs or not. I've seen a lot of improvement from many young players, and 10 wins is what I expected without so many players going down.

How can I be disappointed, at this point, with the team being pretty much where I thought they would be? I really do not understand the "Off With Their Heads" mentality twards coaches and players. At least, not yet.

We only have a shot at the number 6 spot now and have lost to the two top teams vying for it. Better luck next season I guess.

Well, depends, Pats vs Jets loser, if they lose another AFC game, and we win out, we will snake them.

If the Bills upset the Jets or the Packers beat the Pats, added in to someone losing their upcoming game, could snake us in.

Of course that means we have to win our head to head matchups with both teams.

Something like that, it is putting the cart way ahead of the horse to say one way or another, but the two games in hand against both teams is really helpful, but we still need help especially help from inside the AFC.

The pack win goes to matchups vs common opponents.

To take that scenario a bit further:

Assume the Jets lose to New England to go 9-3:

Dolphins win to take them to 9-4 we go to 7-5

    The remaining schedule:

    Steelers in Pittsburgh
    Chicago in Chicago
    Buffalo in NY

    Hmm...:shifty:

    Folks that is not impossible.

    Pats remaining schedule:

    Jets
    at Chicago
    Green Bay
    at Buffalo
    Miami

Hmm, tougher, the Bears are so erratic but if they lose to the Jets Belicheck is great in rebound games, but in Chicago and Buffalo, maybe the weather plays a factor?

No shock that Pittsburgh won today and that Baltimore is up on TB. I know how you feel about the team's chances but I just don't see the Phins doing enough to earn a postseason spot. I'd love for it to happen but they just pissed their chances away earlier this year

IMO if they win out, they're in. It's that easy, everything will play out in their favor for making the playoffs at 11-5...

But they have to win out. They slip just once, then forget it.

I doubt the Pats slip. They win next week the first seed looks like it's theirs even with a loss to Chicago. At 13-3 they win the tie-breaker with the AFC North teams who won't even challenge the Pats at 3 losses. Pats have to lose to the Jets for it to be anyone else really because I don't see the Pats letting up.

Now as far as the Jets go, if they lose to New England, I see at least two more losses. Miami needs to win out until that obviously really tough New England game. Something tells me the Pats won't risk Brady's health against Cameron Wake and the hard hitting Dolphin rushers. I think they can beat New England's backup crew. If they can't they're not a playoff team.

It's beat the Jets and beat the crappy teams to get into the playoffs.

    Well....

Right now...if we win out....we have a 24% chance of not making the playoffs....which Ill take.

11-5 after 5-5 would be a heck of an accomplishment.....but would definatley leave a bitter taste in my mouth considering it would have been a blown call by a ref in the Pittsburgh game that cost a playoff chance.

Is 11-5 without a playoff appearance considered a disappointing season?

Not to me, especially considering the Pitt and Chicago game.

If we manage to go 10-6 even, I'd consider that successful as well.

Our best bet is the Ravens or the Steelers tanking it. Most likely the Steelers with the injuries they have.

But the Chiefs and Chargers can throw a monkey wrench into the playoffs also.

Well....you gotta like how this plays out though....

Pats, Jets, have very tough schedules remaining.....who knows what happens in the AFC South...or the West for that matter.

Pitt and Baltimore each have two tough games remaining..one against each other....

I think our best bet by far is....Jets losing 3 more to tie us at 11-5...with us beating them in NY.
