That wasn't really a voice of reason, that was something everyone knows. I would have rathered us run the ball 3 times and had a 3 and out, then throw three passes. At least the runs would give the D more rest. It's about the fact we didn't just line up and play smash mouth football with all the injuries on the oline. Passing with all the injuries just turns it into a sack fest.

I think its borderline ******ed that we didn't even try to run yet ran play action over and over... but the Ravens are givign up 100 yards per game.

Penalties was on pass plays also, not just runs.

At least line up in a 4 WR set and fling it around. Playaction with a banged up OL and not even an attempt at running is going to get the QB sacked a LOT.

You can give up 100 yards a game and still allow low ypc. I remember years ago watching Eddie george run for over 100 yards on a 3.3 average lol. I was just going off what was mentioned in game that they allowed RB's to average 2.7 yards per carry. Might only have been the past few games and not the whole season though.

I agree with this, or at least spread them out and run out of the 4wr set. Something different, we are so predictable.

let's not forget that we have 2 o-line coaches on the offense..sporano is also a line coach so out of both of them we still get this kind of performance.i'm not saying don't look at degu because "everyone"needs to be looked at save a few on d.even before the injuries we were decent at pass blocking but still horrible at the run.they went out of their way to bring(in their mind)the best possible run blocking line they could yet it's been a miserable effort to say the least.one of the most expensive lines in football and they can't block spam on the internet.

my question is if it's degu's schemes we are running that's not working or if it's sporano's and degu is just a "yes" man too?

thats the question and i'm not sure of what the answer is. i dont think its sparano because we were a hellacious run blocking team the first two years so i suspect its degu but i cant say for certain. it could also be that we just chose the wrong talent this year to replace smiley, garner, thomas and grove. hard to say. i think john jerry getting sick also hurt us. it probably stunted his development quite severely but thats another guy we need to evaluate and determine if he can improve. i suspect he can but this front office better be sure

When you get shut out at home for the first time in 40 years, you don't get to blame that on injuries. Sorry, but that's just not cutting it.

We had a lot of problems last night. Dan Henning was one of them. A rather sizable one, at that. When problems present themselves in definitive ways, you solve them. You don't fall into excuse making and lines of reasoning that say, well since there are probably more problems than just that one, we should not solve that one problem. We should remain paralyzed.

Dan Henning's game plan last night was garbage. Hot, stinking, garbage.

I referenced this in the OP, but at some point people have to be held accountable. If you think we didn't stand a chance from the get-go, then why did we have Jake playing and risking him further injury? They apparently felt we could win.

I don't have a problem with losing, and I expected to..... but I do have a problem with the manner in which we lost. Being outmatched doesn't give this organization a free pass. We can go all the way back to bringing in over $50 million dollars worth of a risky, injury-plagued G-C combo.

I understand the reasoning for not running the ball because we did have a patchwork offensive line and from the start of the game the Bears were heavily stacking the line. I can also understand how starting the game passing makes sense because of trying to get the Bears to back off. However just because the Bears were keying in on the run doesn't mean you shouldn't at least try to run to keep the offense from being laughably one dimensional. For instance, teams were stacking the line in 2008 and even the early part of 2009, yet we used the Wildcat and ran the ball. The goal of any opposing defense is to make the offense one dimensional and obviously the Bears were trying to make Thigpen beat them. Which is a trap we fell right in to.

I guess I'm not slamming Henning for the fact he didn't run because on some level I understand it. What I am slamming Henning and the whole coaching staff for (except Nolan) is once again we didn't make a gameplan that would take advantage of the opposing team, instead we did exactly what they wanted (making yourself one dimensional is mind boggling). This has been a problem all year as well as the mind numbingly absence of throwing to Marshall in the endzone and the love of field goals. As time goes by it's apparent that Sparano is a coach that needs to be surrounded by talent and he is not a Head Coach that is the talent like a Bill Belichick or even a Mike Tomlin, I could argue. We have the talent in Nolan but we desperately need a new OC because there is no way Henning should be defended anymore looking at his recent work overall in my eyes. I am still scratching my head over why we went from an all run team to an all pass team, can't there be something in between?

This team has talent we just don't how to properly utilize it.

Pretty much agree ToddFins. And I would add, that incessant turnover in personnel the first several weeks was just ridiculous. It's the kind of moves one might make in the first year of a big rebuild and overhaul, searching for a diamond in the rough - but it is still rather extreme and radical at that!

The natl. media talk on this hasn't stopped either.

Fine you want to pass all game long and give up the run with your 3rd string QB?
Well then cater your calls to that QB's strengths and don't force him to play the way you'd prefer.

Jaworski the other morning was dumbfounded talking about Hennings calls putting Thigpen under center and not spreading out the offense for him. He rambled off the situations that Thigpen thrives in and metioned that we did not cater any of the calls to that. He was literally dumbfounded.

I guess it's just us irrational fans looking for a scapegoat though. :pity:

Can we dress Henning in a turkey costume and put him on a float in the Macys Thanksgiving Day parade. If so there's a good chance that Rex will eat him and choke on his bony ***. Two birds with one stone.

It is quite obvious to me that all those fans who thought the Dolphins should have run the ball more in the game were not watching the same game I was watching. If they had been. They might have noticed that the running backs had absolutely no running room. In fact the Bears defensive line spent most of the game in the Dolphins backfield. There were no holes being opened up by the offensive line. I am not defending the play calling of Henning. I think he has done a terrible job for most of the season. But play calling was not the problem on Thursday night. The lousy play of the offensive line was the problem.
Also, even though the defense did not allow many points. They also could not stop the Bears on third down most of the night. Because of how long the Bears maintained possession of the ball. The offense with no running game and very little passing game never really stood a chance in the game. I don't care who the offensive coordinator was in this game. Because of the terrible play of the offensive line and the questionable play of Thigpen. Along with inability of the defense to prevent the Bears from completions on many third down plays. The Dolphins never had a chance to win this game. The two teams could have played another four quarters and I still don't see how the Dolphins would have scored a point. The Dolphins running more would have accomplished only one thing in this game. It would have ended faster. Because the clock would have stopped less due to incompletions on the part of the Dolphins.

we had all of three days to practice and you want to install a whole new offensive package and gameplan and get all of our receivers running something they have used sparingly at best? you have to keep your wishes to something that is at least realistic. its very possible that with ten days off we will see more spread formations in our next game. to actually believe that we were going to do this on a short week is disengenious shock by jaws

I'm sick and tired of people who never played the game itself and only know the game through watching it on Sundays and Madden. Just because we don't gain 5 yards per carry doesn't make it ineffective. Running the ball A) keeps the defense honest and B) wears down the defense. Maybe sitting on the couch watching pixels on a screen is why you dont realize it but I'm just fed up with posters here and including personal friends of mine who talk if they are gurus yet never stepped onto the field and took or made a hit.

So you attend film day and practices and know exactly what packages the team practices? Wow, you're better than the other 31 defensive coordinators in the NFL.....At the end of the day, Jaws has played in the NFL, you......played Madden. I think he has more credibility than you.

i'm over 40. people over 40 dont play madden. in our day we actually got out of the house and played sports sonny. and no i never played in the nfl. only high school ball. has it ever crossed your mind that if henning (the guy who would run 100% of the time if he could) abandons the run, there may actually be a valid reason for it? this is not henning abandoning the pass, this is henning, mr run, run, run, abandoning the run and putting the game in the hands of a 3rd string QB. The fact that you cant comprehend this says all thats needed

and using your logic, henning has coached in the nfl and been paid to do so for 40 years. he has more credibility than both of you when it comes to playcalling and gameplanning

Anyone who defends Henning doesn't know what they are talking about. He is one of the worst current offensive coordinators in the league. Most intelligent people would understand that when you have a young inexperienced 3rd string QB taking over, you probably should run the ball more than 3 times a half. It's blatently obvious that he needs to go. Sparano needs to go also. Go back to University of New Haven and get back to work on their elite football team. Ignorance is bliss.
