Have to admit, I see it and still think he should have come down with the Int like he did against Moss.
I have not seen the play but from the looks of it, it would have been a very difficult pass for him to catch. Most Cb's play Cb because of one thing. Because they don't have good enough hands to play Wr.
Here is the thing for me Oz, if this team is to move forward, we need the Defense to make plays, Vontae comes down with that ball..it saves 3 pts. For all the properly directed consternation with the offense, the Defense just does not grab chances to change the game very often, Wake with a strip sack..ball is punted around, same story all season so far, the D has to step up and move from "good" to great.
That is the thing RR, the offense and defense are working against each other right now, the O is not mounting drives, the D is giving up long drives, the Bears killed us with time of possession last evening, it was 37 minutes to 22 minutes. Our D is more set up for a team like the Colts or Chargers, they put up points, the D bends, but doesn't break in the Red Zone, and the offense then puts up more points.
That's just not going to work right now. This defense is pretty young, and imo, it is not a complete defense. Without another Lb'er as good as a Dansby (neither have to be great mind you) and without one of these DE's other than Wake stepping up and a Cb other than Vontae playing solid this defense will never hold this team up. Vontae is one of the bright spots on the defense so it would be nice if he made those type of int's but a pass defense cannot be overlooked as a really good play. It does not necessarily define between elite and good and if the other players or at least a good majority of them are as good then it can be a great defense. But it/they are not. Injuries are surely a part of the reason but not all. IMO the problem with this team is...... Without a running game this team is going absolutely nowhere. It cannot sustain drives and constantly shoots intself in the foot. More times than not, a defense thrives off of what an offense can do. And with Henning, I see nothing improving anytime soon. He can wow you with a great play then wow you with 5 boneheaded plays. Henning has went from calling some great plays, game after game in his first season to having so many of us wonder what the hell he is doing since then. Even if this is a so called passing league at this time, this team has to be able to run to make any of that happen. There is absolutely no respect given to this offense by the opponents. They will stack the box at times but for the most part all we see is a cover 2 because they can stop the run with there front five to seven. So try to get your Cb's to play some sound inside techniques and dare the Qb to beat you with whats left of the field.........where the other four/six defenders lay waiting. Signed Doomed for now
absurd. yeah, it would be great for the defense to come down with all these drops, that's what separates a really good defense (ours) from an elite defense. For "our team to move forward" has nothing to do with the defense, it has everything to do with our inept offense and mediocre special teams.
Was a hell of an effort by Vontae. Great play. Damn near impossible for him to come down with that one, almost did though. Im not gonna nail him to the wall for not coming away with the INT though, we're lucky enough that he was able to make that play. Its the easy INT's our guys are dropping that im concerned with.
What was the stat about the fumble recovery? Was it something like that was our first one in 8 games, or something like that?
This I do not understand, of all three units, clearly the Defense is the furthest along, so why shouldn't/couldn't/wouldn't the Defense take the next step and be Dominant? Put it this way, which one is more likely to happen, the Offense improves overnight, or the Defense makes the plays that are there to be made?
He was so damn close to coming down with that.. had it stuck in his hand, it just slipped out when he was bringing it in. That would have been all over highlights if he caught it.
Great effort nice save from seven on the board period. D on the field 3/4 of the game. I'm sure he would have liked a pick six but how can you honestly ***** at that? Now on the other hand if the 0 line put out 1/2 of that performance we score aleast three or four field goals.
Davis fast becoming the next RealDeal on defense as I look into that dark abyss we call the 2010 season that held out such hope for fans throughout Dolfandom the only bright spot has been Nolan & our defense let them make their bones with the remainder of the season next year they will be the base of the new reconstruction & scourge of the NFL
Davis is still raw in certain aspects of his game. This particular play was awesome but he got burnt a few times in the last few games. Make no mistake Vontae WILL be a star at the position he`s just not there yet. Also, the fact people are *****in` because he didnt come down with the int. is just insane.
If you go back and watch it was one hell of an athletic play. VD got way up in the air and saved a TD. The effort was totally there and it would have been an even better play if he picked it off. I don't fault him for not coming down with it. He gave it all he had and still had the presence of mind to tip it to himself.
Well, there is a difference with finding fault, and pointing out the difference between "good" and "great", let's face it KillahP, if we are to finish say 9-7, the D is going to have to lead the charge because the other two units just are not good enough to do so.
I agree but to single this play out as being a game changer is hard to comprehend. There were so many things that went wrong in the game and this wasn't one of them. Would I have loved to see him finish that play with a pick.... oh hell yes and I even let out a huge "dammit get that " while watching but it was great effort. Now if he doesn't get way up in the air I would have been all over it. I think what you are refering to though are those in the hands should have easily taken type opportunities that we haven't taken advantage of at all this year. Those are the ones I single out as blown plays and a blown chance for the big turnover.
Nothing off topic about it. wth does it matter if something strays into another area of the team while at the same time commenting on the person in the photo? You constantly say this to people and I just don't get it. Should we just say nice photo and go to the next thread, and make a one liner comment there too? Or can we conversate? Just asking....
You're right. No one will ever be better at giving up touchdowns then blaming it on a hamstring like Darrelle. No one will ever be a better ***** than that.
