Is this guy majorly overrated or what. Don't you think the Dolphins would be better with these RB combinations on the field, RW/PC, RW/RB, RB/PC. Why do people like Polite so much? The running game hasn't gotten better since he has been a dolphin, It probably has gotten worse. He isn't a threat out of the backfield either rushing or receiving. I know he had a streak of gaining atleast 1 yard on a rush a bunch of times in a row, but really, that isn't that impressive.
he has missed a ton of blocks this year, and imo his struggles are apart of the rushing game being so bad this year
while I think you've obviously overlooked his value on 3rd and short (guy has failed to convert what, once in about 40 attempts over the past 2 seasons?) I do agree that I'd like to see Brown, Williams, or Cobbs getting some of these passing game looks that Lousaka is getting. He's a beast and a power runner, but catching a pass in the flat and expecting him to make the first guy miss just isn't his expertise, they should be using a different back for that. But to say he's overrrated in the running game is not on point at all, in my opinion
I found an article dated october 17 of this year that said he was 31-33 on 3rd or 4th and 1. That is good, but how much better is it that just giving it to Ricky williams. His 3rd and 1 carries aren't goalline either, where the defense can really stack the line because the worst that can happen is a 1 yard pass for a touchdown, on 3rd and 1 midfield, the defense has to respect the pass and can't stack the box or else they could give up a long touchdown pass on a PA pass.
Sure, he's missed a few blocks, but for the most part of the reason our running game was great last year. He's also pretty much automatic on 3rd and shorts. That said, I would like to see him pick up his blocking assignments more consistently. Dude is still a beast though.
Lou has missed alot on his blocking assignments after his injury, which is a reason for the poor running game. You can't blame all teh running game faults on him though. He is in there for 3rd/4th and 1 which he excells at. He should have been a pro-bowler last year.
He had an awesome year last year and should have been all-pro, this year he has missed blocks but has not been terrible. So no, he is not overrated.
Lousaka Polite isn't having a great year, but I think that's just as much because of the OL as anything. A big part of being a fullback is vision, like a regular runningback. He's often got to make a decision, and deviate from the called play to figure out who best to block, and he's not great at it. Last season, when the blocking was better with the OL, he more often had clear holes, he absolutely destroyed guys. http://stats.washingtonpost.com/fb/leaders.asp?type=Rushing&range=NFL&rank=016 You tell me, where's Ricky Williams on that list? FYI, he's tied for 3rd this year, but Lousaka Polite was #1 in both of the last two seasons.
That is kind of misleading since it is 3rd and less than 3. Polite never carries unless it is 1 yard or less, so comparing him to people who carry it on 3rd and 3, of course he is going to look good. Ricky only has 4 carries from 3rd and 0-2, i don't know what % he is for first downs. Going to % first down carries on 3rd down, Ricky is 4/6 and Polite is 7/9. So I mean, considering that Polite has 8 tries on 3rd and 1, I wouldn't say ricky is a lot worse. But really, I don't think that Polite is that valuable since I am sure the league average for conversions on 3rd and 1 is pretty high anyways.
Per Pro Football Focus, 28 of 32 teams have players who have gotten at least 25% of their teams snaps as fullbacks(Some of them are Tight Ends, but PFF does a good job differentiating between true H-Backs and Fullback stuff). It looks like the Patriots(Sammy Morris 16 snaps), Colts(Javarris James 4 snaps), Bengals(Daniel Coats 23 snaps, Reggie Kelly 34 snaps, Dan Skuta 9 snaps, John Paul Foschi 1 snap), and Bears(Desmond Clark 16 snaps) are the teams without.
That's not really true. He's got 16 total carries. I don't know what your objection could possibly be on an apples to apples comparison, either. Why do you need to guess, it's right there?
It isn't apples to apples. Polite has no carries from 3rd and 3-6. Those other rb have carries from 3rd and 2 and 3rd and 3. Polite does not. So Comparing a running back who always runs on 3rd and 1 or less, vs. a rb who has to run on 3rd and 3, isn't really apples to apples.
To say he is majorly overrated is bordering on an idiotic statement. I will admit however, that he has not had a paticularly strong year compared to his past two seasons.
He is good at getting that 1 yard when they need it most of the time. For that alone is worth a roster spot. His blocking has not been good as of late.
I think it is a decent statement if the guy can back it up. Polite's blocking has really gone downhill. I remember one play where he missed two blockers and both of them hit Ronnie Brown for a 1 yard loss.
Besides injury, I can't figure out why Polite's play could have fallen off so much. He just doesn't look like the same guy. He's missing a ton of blocks like SICK said, he's not a good pass protector, he's plain bad as a receiver and since we cant run the ball anyway, I don't see why his snaps aren't going to Cobbs or Lex.
Ricky isn't any better which is why Lou has gotten 33 3rd or 4th and 1 calls. I can't believe you're questioning this...... as if the guy is a lackluster 15 of 33. I highly doubt anyone in the NFL has a better conversion rate over the same time. This is hilarious!!! Oooops, I just farted.
No question, especially out of a spread offense we should be seeing Cobbs more. He's a nice guy to have even if he's run blocking the safety or CB who is covering him. Polite= SLB or WLB on the field Cobbs= extra safety or CB on the field, or a mismatch against a LB Regardless I think Marshall-Hartline-Bess-Fasano-Brown Is the strongest running and passing group available.
Lex should be seeing more 3rd down snaps. He seems to love sticking his nose into blitzing defenders and he has decent hands and fresh legs.
He is pretty good at his role and he does get open in the passing game. Again he's another large RB who can who play out in the spread offense and knock the crap out of whoever tries to get past him in the running game, if they're not a LB.
