So I watched the clip multiple times and if you look carefully you'll see Moss pushing Vontae around and off of him. It looks like Vontae is mostly trying to get his hands free. Go to 37 seconds of this video. http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/20101...ecap/full-story?module=HP_headlines#tab:watch
I hate how they expect defenders to have eyes in the back of their head at all times, especially on horribly thrown balls.
Vontae needed to get his head around and look for the ball. If Vontae was playing Moss's eyes to break up the pass then he needs to know not to make contact with the receiver. Since he did make contact, while not playing the ball it was blatant pass interference on VD Now i do believe if Vontae got his head around as Moss was pushing him off during the contact we could have easily gotten offensive interference. A lesson for VD IMO
Sure, Moss was all over him, there was definately contact both ways, but Davis doesn't turn around to look for the ball. If he turns around, he may get away with it, but with that much contact going on, I doubt it.
Didn't look like PI to me.. but if the defender doesn't have his head turned looking at the ball, they'll call you every time. Speaking of that, why is Vontae never looking for the ball? He didn't look for it in the endzone pass to Washington either
It was pass interference, I didn't even give it a second thought, even after seeing the reply. Davis has had a rough 2 weeks (And no, he was not on Moss all game)
It was PI. Vontae didn't get his head around. He turns his head around... not only is that not PI, it's an INT.
It was PI. I just wonder why the refs never called PI when (and I can't recall who the WR was) the Titan defender never got his head turned around on the throw to the back corner of the end zone. The Davis/Moss play was nearly identical to this one but they only threw the flag on the Davis/Moss play.
I'm a high school ref for what it's worth, and VD was guilty as charged there, for what these guys say, he didn't turn around at all, till too late. If he had and played the ball, there would've been no call, or Moss would've been flagged. But when you're not looking, and there's contact like that, the flag will be thrown EVERY time on the defender. It sucked because it was unecessary, all VD had to do was turn around at least a little. I think we all forget that he still is a very young CB. He just plays like a seasoned-pro-bowler for stretches, you start to expect him to make no mistakes, and when he does, it's kinda shocking.
VD didn't play a great game, but how about that play he made on that 3rd and 1? He's the only defender on the outside, sheds his blocker and destroys the running back for no gain. That is great to see. VD is as complete a corner as they come. Kid's a stud.
Vontae's biggest problem has always been that he doesnt get his head turned around...I would love to see that, because he will make more plays... Actually if he gets his head tunred around, thats offensive PI, as Vontae surely would have been right there for the interception...
I believe you are talking about the fade pass from Henne to Hartline in the corner of the endzone. I'd have to see it again, but initially I thought it could have been called DPI as well, I wasnt quite sure though, but immediately thought it was possible. Need to see it again though.
I agree Vontae is a great talent, even the best get beat once in awhile. The great thing is Vontae rarely gets beat twice. Smith is looking good also our tandem is still looking good
That will be called PI every time. Davis had a rough game, but he did have that great tackle on that third and short. Smith had a good game. I think this is the third game in a row where Smith has out-played Davis. Hopefully, these guys will get to the level where they're trying to outdo each other for the most INTs. I would love to see this defense go on a nice run of producing some multiple turnover games.
I know right..... I thought that sweep was going for six from the moment the play started. VD was on an island and he was the only one who was going to stop that and he made the play. It shocked me. Been a long while since I've seen a Dolphins corner make a play like that.
VD's been making those plays since he's been here. LOVE seeing a corner who can hit and tackle just as good as he can cover. Don't forget he was there to assist on the tackle on Adrian Peterson on 4th and goal in Minnesota.
