I love the signing of Al Harris, and ABSOLUTELY love the idea of starting Pennington. The QB move This does not hinder Henne's development. He doesn't have to be a starter to coninue developing. He's started enough, and it's apparent he isn't up to the task. He needs to spend time on basic fundamentals, accuracy, and the mental aspect of the game, which can all be done behind the scenes at practice while Pennington picks up the slack on the field. Pennington is accurate, a good decision maker, doesn't throw picks and better at reading defense. He isn't easily flustered, and has better command of the huddle. I like what he has shown in preseason, and Pennington KNOWS HOW TO FINISH OFF DRIVES. Watch how the teams TD-INT ratio goes way up. Expect Marshall to catch a LOT more touchdowns. Pennington is a proven quarterback in this league, and everybody absolutely loved him a couple years ago. I don't know what happen to you guys ever since, but I see this as Pennington picking up where he left off in 08. The CB move Jason Allen is a veteran already. We know what we had in him. He has a nose for the football, nice ball skills, but is constantly beat in coverage. Not a solid #2 corner. Al Harris, is. Al Harris plays great press man-to-man coverage. He IS healthy, and he IS solid 2 corner. I agree we could have Allen stick around, but Smith is our 2 corner of the future, and Allen can't play nickel or dime. Thoughts? It seems everybody here loved the mediocre QB play at quarterback we've had the past year.
Reading all the posts today, it seems everybody is clinging on to Penningtons 0-3 start last year, and that somehow Henne's "Confidence" is shattered. 1st of all, you dont know henne personally so how would you know he lost confidence. And Pennington has been a solid qb for nine years. Those 3 games last year are NOT the standards you hold Chad Pennington to.
Its not? Why not? His arm hasn't gotten any better. He's been an average to slightly above average QB for his entire career. He got annihilated against the Ravens last time he played them. As for Henne, nobody knows but him, but coaches dumping your *** after a tough game in which the entire team failed generally does not bode well.
Meh, it's good to mix it up and you need a spark. This will reinvigorate the team IMO. Long term? Draft a potential franchise QB and let him sit behind Henne next year. If Henne pans out, trade said QB. If Henne doesn't progress we at least have a plan B... Jason Allen probably just makes too much money to be a backup/special teams player.
If you mean beating mediocre teams and then laying an egg in the 1st round of the playoffs, leaving us with a crappy draft pic, then I agree 100%.
People seem to forget this a lot. Pennington hasn't beaten the kind of teams we have been losing to for some time. 2008 he beat up on the worst schedule in the league and faltered badly when playing the elite.
That's very true, but when that happened, Camarillo was arguably our best receiver. Let's see how Penny does with Marshall and Bess running wild. I think this team needed a change, so I can't really argue with the moves... but I think come this offseason, there's going to be a lot of people losing their jobs.
WOW! You're smart. Are you an NFL GM? Maybe a talent scout? Although, I have a question about something. In all of your years of scouting the best of the best, how many QB's had a completion % of 64 or higher? The reason I ask is because you said Henne needs to work on his accuracy and that is his completion %. Man, you must have come across some very talented QB's in your time if you think a 64% passer needs to work on his accuracy.
