i have pm'ed travis already, to squash any personal beef we have now, and not let it bleed over to the topics and threads. The mods deal with enough. I think we can all agree we're all hot right now, and excited whether its positive or negative and its showing in the posts....

The more I think about this, the more I think its for sure the best move for the team right now, for these next 8 games. Where i still disagree is in the thought that these 8 games matter. Our playoff hopes are so thin, about as whatever's holding Pennington's shoulder together right now. I don't see the need to stunt the growth of a young QB yet, especially with the "easier" part of our schedule approaching.

Im not concerned with how Pennington is going to play the next 8 games, My concern now is with the future, and what this team does at QB going forward. That is where I'm still irritated with this whole move.

I love it,it's about time someone had some balls in this organization since the...well,......the Shula days to make the players take notice.
I am a Henne supporter but you have to light fires to see how a team responds.
These moves today are a great motivator.

Sorry, not buying the talent argument. Fans who see their teams lose always assume that they're just one player around the corner away from fixing all that ails them. Then when THAT player is added, and still not success, they want to just go out and add another pro bowler....and on and on and on until you have a team full of pro bowlers that still arene't winning....and then you have the Dallas Cowboys. Just because you're not scoring TDs doesn't mean you're not equipped with talent. Besides, Brown, Williams, Marshall, Bess, Long, Polite...that's plenty of talent to score with. If the Irish Ivy Leaguer can score 40 points with Buffalo's talent, sorry, but I'm not buying that Henn shouldn't be able to do the same with what I would consider equal or greater talent.

Simple, I (Sparano) want to keep my job. Owner (Ross) is in my ear telling me I (Sparano) will get fired if this team does not shape up.

Im a Henne "guy" but for those advocating letting a season go to waste to let him "develop" when you Added a Carlos Dansby and Brandon Marshall and have 50 other Players and a dozen or so coaches that have put a ton of Time and effort into winning THIS season...that is a hard sell to anyone..the Offense had some obvious performance AND leadership problems Chad Pennington INSTANTLY takes care of any leadership issue and probably upgrades the performance from that alone.

I will gladly eat a huge plate of crow if this team doesnt look a whole hell of a lot better on Offense come Sunday and for the rest of the season as long as Penny stays healthy.

I think when you have receivers that cannot threaten vertically, big time arm strength becomes less threatening to safety's and corners..Speed stretches first.

I think you're quite wrong. A man who would compramise his own beliefs and values for the sake of another's opinion, even if that guy is writing your checks, is a coward. Tony Sparano might be alot of things that I don't like, but he's no coward.

I'll buy part of that, just not all...Henning shelving the wildcat was wrong imo..

weve slowly taken the formation out of the offense, and ironically became the worst offense in the league..

you dont take players skillsets and shelve them..

Funny, but I felt the same way prior to the announcement Pennington was taking over for Henne. After scoring only 11 TD's in 8 games. The Dolphins were not a fun team to watch anymore. I know that Pennington is not the long term answer at QB. But I have felt this way about Henne for several weeks. I have watched QB's drafted in the last three years play far better then Henne has played. He has no touch on his throws and he is inconsistent on throws over 10 yards. The reason for his high completion percentage has more to do with the number of dump off passes he has completed then with his accuracy on throws down the filed. I have no idea if Pennington will be the answer for this season or if the Dolphins will just continue to falter on offense. What I do know is that Henne was not getting the job done and he needed to be replaced.

the wildcat is beatable......dont crash a DE on the side ricky is motioning towards, blitz that corner, and free fire the inside backers.....theres no where to go. throwing is not going to do anything....theyll take the risk

even though i still stand in the henne corner, i do expect us to be improved on offense. i think our red Zone performance will improve dramatically now. i really hope Henne doesnt fall apart because of this. I think he needed one more offseason to become the QB we all hoped for and there is nothing here that changes that. I hope he understands this and does everything he can to get better

This is true for every QB who has ever played the game (ok, perhaps just the majority)!!

Traditionally as throws get further from the LOS, completion % goes down.

THIS IS A PANIC, DESPERATION, SCARED MOVE. chicken ****. Here's a shocking detail for the front officeabout this 'win now' team with a young qb holding them back: your entire team isn't good enough to win now, starting at offensive coordinator.

our wildcard worked when we had the interior oline that could pick up the crashing ILBs. We dont now so thats why it failed. John Jerry is the guy to watch though. He's a beast but he has little endurance right now. By week 11 he should be full strength again and we may revisit it. I would only run it when Jerry is in the lineup though. McQuistan cant block the wildcat effectively

When was the last time the Dolphins were fun to watch on offense? I'm not being sarcastic, it's a serious question.

I guess the Wildcat was cool for a while. But I can tell you that the ONLY times I've ever been excited by a Dolphins offense was when Ricky was tearing **** up in 2002-2003 and when #13 was the QB.

The play of Henne has been an issue the entire season. The only reason the Dolphins are 4-4 right now has far more to do with the play of the defense in the four wins then it does with how well Henne played in those games. When an offense only scored 11 TD's in 8 games. The OC should be held accountable along with the QB. Henning should be fired along with this move of replacing Henne with Pennington.

If the Phins do in fact give up on Henne, which I'm not saying will happen, then next year's draft will certainly be interesting. We may see this team transform into an air-assault type offense. Our RB's are aging, we're more talented than we've been in years at receiver. And if they give up on Henne, that means a QB will be one of, if not our primary need in the draft.

Throws over 11 yds or further-
    Henne - 53%
    Brady - 44%
    Rivers - 55.6%
    Brees - 47.6%
    Rodgers - 45.9%
    P. Manning - 46.7%

Of those listed, only Rodgers has a lower overall completion % than Henne, and even then it's .1% lower. Those other guys must really be ****ing dumping it off then.

I see several people have mentioned Vince Young in this thread.

Doesn't anyone notice, that when Norman Chow came in to replace Heimerdinger as the Titans OC, Vince was awful. Norman gets fired before the 2008 season, Heimerdinger is back....Vince gets re-inserted into the offense, and BAM..he's instantly better.

Moral of the Story: The OC has got to utilize the skills of his QB

Just heard the news at work i havent read the whole thread yet but ill get around too it. But my thoughts:
I completly disagree with this move! I love penny and he'll excel in this offense with henning but you cant bench henne when he's so limited in the offense. Yes he has played poorly during some of our games but alot of his interceptions arent his fault. We need to get rid of henning afer this year and give the team back to henne at the start of the season next year with a new coordinator that will play to hennes strengths. This could be a good move for the rest of this season but i feel strongly that henne will emerge as the starting qb next year with a new oc.

Exactly... the reason this offense is anemic is because the shot caller is playing conservative ball. There is 0 risk in the pass plays called and the fact that we started throwing 35+ times a game all of a sudden doesnt help the cause. Henne being the inexperienced player he is, is only going with what he is told and is audible hardly EVER. This is all Hennings fault and dont let anyone sell you anything different.
