If true (and I suspect at least two of these are), this move was a no brainer.

LOL. Give me a break. He played fantastic against the Jets and Steelers. Played well against the Packers and Vikings. To say he plays terrible against good teams is just flat out wrong.

Just curious? How long did it take for Penny to develop those skills? More than 21 games? He's getting worse as time goes on instead of better, has anyone wondered why? To me he is playing scared and I believe it's because this regime is trying to make a strong armed Pennington out of him rather than improved Henne. Just my uninformed opinion..

i clearly understand the desire to win right now .... and yes, against an easier schedule CP can win us 6 games ..... but this move just killed Henne; personally i think this FO jacked him up anyway -- so i hope he moves on this offseason into a better situation. This WILL come back to haunt us .....

The PATSIES will find a way to get him, Brady will get hurt next year ... and Henne will lead them to 2 more SBs .... nice job -- BRILLIANT!

IMHO, you only sacrifice wins/seasons for development IF, and this is a big fat IF, you believe that you've got something special on your hands. None of us truly knows or will ever know what Sparano/Ireland think of Henne, but if they no longer felt he was THE GUY for this franchise, then letting the team suffer just to see if Henne corrects his weaknesses is bordering on gross negligence. We can all spout off about what we might think of Henne's potential, but at the end of the day, only two opinions count, Sparano and Ireland. This whole Henne thing, and that's what it is as this has much much less to do about Pennington than it does Henne, has been building towards one big fat question that must be answered by Sparano/Ireland, today or at the end of the season: "Does Chad Henne have what it takes to be a special QB?" Today, we got our answer.

If the answer was no (and the decision was not swayed by owners or public outcry), then how can you not get behind this decision? How can you expect Sparano to look his guys in the face and ask them to run through another brick wall for him when he's hurting their chances for a win by playing a guy they all believe, players included possibly, isn't THE guy? You can't. Not if you want to keep you team's faith in your abilities as a coach.

I have a feeling the truth is that Sparano/Ireland had seen enough of Henne to form an opinion, I know I have, and they just didn't like what they saw. So, they let Penny TRY to salvage the season, giving the rest of the guys hope, and you look towards getting your guy in the next draft.

If they're doing this for any other reason, it's a big mistake. But I think the only reason people are suggesting that Sparano did this for Penny, or for the owner, or for a few wins, is that fans just can't stomach the thought that we're back to drafting another QB, potentially setting the clock back another year. But you know what, if he's not the right guy, it doesn't matter when you make the change, the outcome is the same. Simple as that. I think Henne isn't the guy for Sparano. I also think that if the right guy for Sparano is Henning and his "don't lose" mentality, this team is not the right team for me.

    Could not agree more.

It also says that this staff has a vision of what it wants to do offensively and it will not change that for anyone player no matter who it might be!

The NFL has always been about winning now and to hell with player development as for being thrown under the bus after three years on the team and 21 straight starts, I don't think so.

And for those calling for Sparano's head in all of this, I think you are misreading the tea leaves, Henne will go long before Sparano does.

And I'm not saying that because I hate Henne, I don't, but Jeff and Tony's MO is to closely agreeable to make me think otherwise.

    Ok, I'm ready!:omg::confused2::crapstrom:

Here, I'll do you a favor since you seem quite bothered by my posts, to the point where you choose not to respond to them despite criticizing me in yours. I will go back and watch these last three games. I'll watch them in the next two days and then I'll be all caught up. And you know what the result of those three games will likely be? My opinion likely staying the same because I am positive that there is nothing in those games that I didn't see happen in the previous games.

    But I'll watch them.

Sparano did not draft Henne or Pat white, he coaches the players he receives...he gave both guys their chances..now hes made the move that he wants..we should judge him accordingly..

Henne's young, he can bounce back if he's got the makeup..

He passed the ball 15 times that day, and had a 106 rating. Ronnie and Ricky each fumbled in the shadow of our own goal post.
How the hell was it him that left points on the board?

very good points. although i'm against the move from my perspective, all of the reasons you mentioned are valid and its why I'm willing to let it play out. If Henne had hit a wall and his confidence was regressing then its a great move. If ownership was the cause then its a crappy move. If the coaching staff believes the team can be a factor in the playoffs with Penny but not with Henne then its a good move. Its very difficult to have a knowledgeable opinion of the move without knowing what the factors were in making it. I think its a good move for the team in the short run. I am unsure yet if its a good move in the long run but I am not devestated by this move as some are. I am willing to see how it plays out

I know we all think Henne is a good Qb. He has a really good completion percentage, a really strong arm, and it seemed he might be the right Qb for the job. But more and more lately, I have questioned wether what we see is what we get with him. He really has trouble scanning the field, and seems to need total guidence play after play. He makes some nice passes then, at time, and it seems to be crucial times, he throws that boneheaded pick or bad pass. His intermediate passes are not things of beauty either.

All that said. Henne, to me, seemed to have improved some from last year. So this move does baffle me. So I guess they think Miami still has a shot to get in the playoffs because other than that this makes no sense.

At this point, and if healthy, CP is just a better Qb but my guess is he will not last the season. He is just too fragile.....

The question begs who will replace CP if he gets hurt? If they bring in Henne, then maybe they needed him to sit and learn for a minute and still have some faith in him. If they bring in Thiggy, then the writing is on the wall.

Someone named Ross is in Sparano's ear. This move is to 1) light a fire under Henne or 2) save Sparano and his buddy Henning's jobs. Nothing more, nothing less in my opinion. My best friend has been clamoring for Pennington all year, but I do not think its Henne that is the problem...rather **** playcalling. As some have expressed, this sets our franchise back...

You don't get it. That throw wasn't underthrown due to lack of arm strength (come on, my 11 year old son can throw a football 30 yards for christ sake), it was underthrown to a WR who was in double coverage and has a knack for going up for the ball for big plays. I dinstinctly remember that play and thought to myself, "I sure hope Henne just saw that because THAT is how you HAVE to use Marshall". Marshall is great at fighting for the ball and adjusting on the fly. In my opinion, one of Henne's biggest dissapointments with me as a fan is his inability or unwillingness to make that sort of play, especially near the goal line. Christ, Marshall is the LAST guy in the world who should have troubles scoring because of exactly that kind of play. My guess is that Henne is just too scared to just lob it up and trust that Marshall will come down with it in the way that Aikmen/Irvin, Culpepper/Moss/Brady have.

And another thing, I don't get how you or anyone else can endorse a philosophy whereby you would rather see a player NOT try to make a great play just so you don't run the risk of making a bad play. Guess what, great plays, great wealth, great happiness, great anything doesn't happen without risk. NEVER!! Live your life in a shell protecting you from all the bad that might happen and you will not have lived at all.

I still think Henne can develop on the bench ala Rogers in Green Bay. And with the starts he has already had, maybe come out better.

Especially if we replace Henning with our QB coach.

It looks like the Henne era is over. Sparano is smart enough to realize that continuing to play Henne could very well cost him his coaching job with the Dolphins. I have felt all along that Henne is not the long term answer at QB and now it appears Sparano has come to this same conclusion. Pennington obviously is not the long term answer because of his age and injury history. So I suspect that come the draft next year. The Dolphins will use their first round draft pick on what they hope will be their future
QB. As much as I like Long at left tackle. It just makes you wonder how much better the Dolphins would be today if they had taken Matt Ryan with the first overall draft pick three years ago.

Two posts in a row - spot on. Great stuff.

This reminded me of that throw that Pennington made on Week 17 in 2008, when ::GASP:: Ted Ginn adjusted and came back to the ball in double coverage. With a guy like Marshall, at the very least, you're drawing a defensive PI flag with the rules today.

I'm not a big fan of this whole thing, and it'll take seeing a strong product on the field to change that in all likelihood. But you've got a unique take on things, and it's one of the few perspectives on all of this I can get behind.
