This could be the game we can take our shots to Marshall downfield.

If they don't double, Henne better chain throws to Marshall like he did against the Packers in the first half until they learned their lesson.

Not gonna happen. Dan Henning wont allow it. He'll call 2 consecutive wildcat plays then a running play. Punt.

I don't know why but it sounds like a trap to give our team too much confidence.

This would be the perfect chance for Fasano to step up and hold onto the dam football. Just watched the AFC playbook on NFL channel. Dam, on the play Henne thru it to Bess on the goal line and it got broken up, Hartline beat his man after the first 7 yards and was 10 yards ahead of his man and Henne did not even look at him. They pointed that out and played it in slo mo.

For fans thinking the Oline is not opening holes ? If you get a chance, watch the AFC playbook with Theisman and Billick. They showed on play that Long took his man left, Incognito took his man right and there was a lber 3 yards back but a hole the size of a mack truck. Polite hit the Lber and all Ronnie had to do was go right and it was a sure TD, Polite made a great block and Ronnie stuttered and went in the direction the lber was hit towards. I am not making any excuses but I tape each game, If I could find a way to isolate the many plays I have seen where there are big, I mean really really big holes and Ronnie decides to either go the other way or just gets to the hole two months late, I would do it because for the most part, there are holes, sure they close quick sometimes but the holes are there. Theisman and Billick even said its not so much the plays Henning is calling ( believe me, I am not a Henning apologist ) its the fact either Henne is not completing them properly or the RBs are just not getting thru the holes opened or in Ronnies case, stopping prior to him getting in the hole. Ronnie should stop moaning about being consistent and look at his own play.

Start Ricky and run him till he is tired and get Ronnie out of here at the end of the season. He is not half as good as some imagine he is. On a lot of other teams he would be a backup and not see the field unless the number 1 back could not make a go of it.

Yeah, and the Cow ran away with the spoon.

Henne is going to watch for Ed Reed the way a herd of wildebeasts keep an eye open for a lion sneaking through the grass...:D

Henne will even watch him on the Ravens sidelines during kickoffs..:D

OMG, I spit my water on the keyboard. Well, thats one less receiver from our team that will even get a look at Sunday. Did you see the AFC playbook on NFL channel 212 ? Watch it, very enlightening on some things that are really going on. We have open receivers and there are holes to run thru.

Heck, next to last play on our final possession against Pittsburgh. Fasano was soooooooooooooooo wide open and by himself and he was not too far for Henne to reach him. Was the ball thrown to him ? No, thrown to the receiver 8 yards behind him that was covered. It just goes on and on and on. Sooner or later, someone is going to pop the big one, either thru the media or somewhere but sooner or later, this stuff that Henne is improving nicely week to week is getting pretty old IMO. Sooner or later its going to be asked ' So, how many more games, weeks, months , seasons do you think Chad Henne will come around and stop locking on one receiver and stop throwing the ball away because he is afraid he will get an interception charged against his record " There has to be more then one person in that organization thats starting to ask questions or show some doubt, has to be.

I hope you realize I was speaking about "we are not going to double Marshall" and not your post right above mine?

As I've said, Ronnie B is dancing too much this year, and Henne is a work in progress, one that imo is being choked by having "no turnovers" drilled into his head so much so, this is a one read offense, MAYBE two reads, if the Wr is not wide open, throw the ball away.

Or throw it to a preplanned receiver, either way, there are things going on behind the scenes that would shock fans I'd think.

Ah well, Defense is up to #8 in the NFL, ST up to #17, start Ricky Williams and hope for the best.

Greg Mattison used to be a defensive coordinator at UF. During his time we generally played a lot of man defense.

Yep, our defense predicates on the ability and athleticism of the Cornerbacks. Joe Haden last year and Janoris Jankins this year were the best at shutting down their man (even though I know you and I differ in our opinions on Haden :wink2:). Also when Mattison was the co-coordinator in 06 we had Reggie Nelson who played a centerfielder type safety

Henne isn't a work in progress, he sucks. I'm sorry that you all don't wanna recognize that but its very true.

Sam Bradford is a ROOKIE and balling with lesser receivers. What a joke that is to be getting shown up by a rook.

And no I'm not waiting for the next Dan Marino, I'm waiting for a competent quarterback that will win us games and use Marshall correctly.

Yea, what a joke it is to be "shown up" by the #1 overall pick, and a QB viewed to be pretty much the most pro-ready QB since Peyton Manning. Henne's a ****ing bum, let's get him out of here even though he has a higher rating, better YPA, more yards per game, better completion %, and less INTs than Bradford. I'm sure we can trade him for a top5 pick, and take one of those awesome QBs in the 2011 draft. Make it happen.

I know every QB misses a wide open receiver from time to time, but when you're getting 5 to 6 seconds to throw on a weekly basis, against various defenses of various quality, and "nobody's getting open", that tells me one thing, Henne just isnt seeing them. Why? Probably because of the one problem he had coming out of college, which is locking on to one receiver. That approach is fine in man coverage where you just have to track your target long enough to get open, but when it's zone coverage or when safties are sitting back in cover 2 reading his eyes, he's going to have problems with picks and pass breakups. I saw him going to his second read MUCH more in the Pit game, so I hope he's learned his lesson and has his head on a swivel more, but I didn't "notice" the same thing in the Cincy game. Didn't specifically look for it, but I wasn't looking for it in the Pitt game but still picked up on the obvious change. So used to seeing his helmet turn one direction (i.e. one half of the field) and it just never turns the other way. Makes me sick.

It depends...sounds to me like the ravens will put 8 in the box and stop the run. Doing that makes us one dimensional and they can unleash the pass rushing dogs on us....the key to us being successful is being able to run the ball somewhat consistently...if so, the passing game will get it's opportunities...if they shut down the run...it'll be a long day offensively...

  25. Larryfinfan

5 to 6 seconds ?? What games you been watching... At any rate, one of our problems is not being consistent in the passing game. When Henne has the time, he may or may not see a second option that is further downfield. When he sees the right guy open, they drop the pass....Fasano is the biggest culprit, but Marshall, Hartline and even Bess have had their share of missed opportunities. There's more to a successful offense than JUST the QB and his perceived deficiencies....

Just in case nobody has been watching the Ravens, you can run on them, they are like 17th in the league against the run.

They are 9th against the pass.

I would expect us to come out and try and pound the ball.

We have played 4 teams ranked higher against the run (Steelers, Jets, Pats and Vikings)

NFL Networks AFC playbook really opened my eyes

Henne misses open recievers. Easy TD lob pass in the back of the endzone to Hartline missed.

Then they showed the play Ronnie missed 2 holes. The line opened up a hole, and Lousaka Polite took on the only LB left. Ronnie could have went LEFT of Polite and Ronnie could have gone RIGHT of Polite. What did he do? Stumble INTO Polite for 3 yards. That play had a long TD written all over it.

Is it me or have we been unimpressive running the ball? I thought it was a Ronnie not getting the ball issue, but frankly against cinncy Ricky looked to be the better back. Our OL hasnt exactly been pushing the DL back either so coming down the stretch that will be the biggest factor on if we make the playoffs or not.

I think you are both going a little overboard on your stances. Henne does have forever to throw the ball thanks to an offensive line that is pass blocking better then I have ever seen an offensive line block before. WR's and TE's are also dropping balls left, right, and center. On certain plays, Henne is also locking on to Bess or Marshall. Playbook yesterday clearly showed Hartline running free to the endzone on the throw Henne made to Bess where he had three Bengals around him. Defenses are also playing a lot of Cover 2 b/c our running game hasn't been very dominant even in those defensive formations when it should be.

There is a grey area which I think some people have a hard time seeing when you either so badly want Henne to succeed (or fail).

I still don't understand why some people want Henne to fail, but to each his own. I know over on Finheaven, there are plenty of guys that still talk about how stupid we were to take Long over Ryan and they consistently bash Henne just b/c they want to see him fail so they can say they were right. What I try to point out is that even if Henne fails, I would still make the same decision this FO made. You go the franchise LT who you know will be a pro bowl player for years to come over the QB who has talent, but could just as easily be only a serviceable QB. Thats for another debate.

In the end, I think there is alot of blame to go around between Henne, the running game, Dan Henning, and the WR's (dropping balls). To say Henne sucks or it's all the WR's fault is too black and white for me.

I agree, but we also faced 4 of the better teams against the run. Brown has been dancing to much and Sparano called him out on it last week and he hit the whole faster against the Bengals.

I believe we will come out and try and pound the ball against the Ravens, we want to be the big physical team, both the Steelers and Vikings said that we were very physical, so I would think we will try the same against the Ravens.

Steelers are #1 against the run, and we gained the most yards against them running.

But yes, the O-line has taken a step back from last year in regards to run blocking.

That's not plenty of guys, that's one guy, and that guy admires Nick Saban. Professional trolls don't count. As for the rest of the post, you're right - the entirety of the offense is to blame for the offense being bad. It's not just one person failing constantly, it's all of them failing intermittently.

Although they showed him go throw the options last week on one play, I think he hit the back out of the backfield which was like his 5th option.

The leads you to believe one of two things

    1. Nobody was open

    2. Sparano preaches no turnovers, so Henne is just doing what his coach wants, if there is a chance of an INT, check down.

I believe its a little bit of both

    Great, another Henne thread.

I wouldn't trust what Brian Mattison says here. I doubt they're going to risk Fabian Washington having to cover Brandon Marshall by himself deep. It's one thing when a Korey Hall stupidly says something on a pre-game show that he probably shouldn't have. It's another when a coach tries to "reveal" an important part of their defensive game plan.

They WANT to lure Henne into forcing the ball to Marshall, because that's Ed Reed's playground. If Henne isn't doing that, then the magnitude of the mismatch between Marshall and Fabian Washington, and what they have to do with Ed Reed in order to contain that mismatch, threatens to relegate one of their best defensive players to obscurity and irrelevance for an entire game against a QB that is known for sometimes telegraphing passes. So of course Mattison's going to be like "Hey, Henne...why don't you throw it to Marshall? We're not doubling...I swear..."

Playbook is a good show, but don't believe the hype. They show a couple plays to support their predetermined point, and then they move on. They could easily have shown Hartline's drop on the double pass, or Lousaka missing (several) blocks in the game and you'd probably have come away with the opposite conclusions. You've got to watch the whole game to get a real picture. Henne misses open guys, WRs drop balls, OL doesnt block, RBs miss open holes, OC makes bad calls etc. Its not this guy or that guy, its all of them.

 Boy, they sure "lured" Fitzpatrick into throwing TO Lee Evans a couple weeks ago didn't they? Fabian Washington got roasted, especially in the first half so Baltimore would be crazy not to double Marshall. And it'll be very easy to double him since we only send 3 guys into the pattern half the time, heck, they could triple Marshall if they wanted to.
