Well apparently Joel Segal told the Minnesota StarTribune that Miami has already contacted him.

Don't know if that's a good thing because I was under the impression the rules state you can't contact a player on waivers.

If that is a rule, then they must really want him.

Yes. It is a little over $6 million. If he clears waivers, then Minn has to pay him the rest of the salary and he is free to sign a deal anywhere.

Well...Ireland's not stupid...he's got to know the rules. If they contacted him...they did it in a way that kinda skirts around the rules.

Come on Ck, Irish learned under Tuna's wing, if Moss has been contacted it will be by a third party to feel Moss out about where he is at in his head.

I think Moss and Sparano would get along famously, Sparano won't B$ him, and Moss could feel he has a chance at a new contract in Miami.

I think you can talk to them if it is in regards of mutual interest if he clears waivers.

Per Mort on the Van Pelt show it is the remainder of the season, and since we are half-way through just about it would be 3+ Mill...

Unless I heard it wrong, I was driving, but I thought I heard "3 million" thrown around.

I believe we could put him back on waivers, and if a team claims him off waivers again then we wouldn't be on the hook for his salary. If we ended up waiving him and he cleared waivers then we'd be on the hook for his salary AND he could double dip.

It's a cost-benefit. If he never shows up to practice you can put him on Reserve/Did Not Report and you don't have to pay him jack schit. If he reports the question is whether he abides by team rules. If he doesn't you can keep fining him, suspend him, heck if you want you can just put him on inactive for the rest of the season and wait until the off season to try and trade him.

Stupid enough to call a player's mother a whore. And didn't the Dolphins have some fiasco where they tried to cut a player and were denied because they discovered it would have put them over the cap?

    Who in "MIAMI" contacted him?

And there is where the fun starts..:chuckle:

Honestly think the biggest threat would be the Redskins, Snyder will spend the money, and their Wr corps is not that good and at 4-4 their winning percentage is worse than ours.

Then again though, Shanny refused to consider TO.

Yeah, his contract is 6.4 million, which would means a team would have to pay about half of that.

If the Fins have contacted Segal, it's to find out what the parameters of a new contract are.

Ireland is going about this the right way, they way Minny didn't. If you're going to take this chance, you know you've got to give him a contract or this is unlikely to work.

It's just a matter of getting the numbers right. No question Ross would approve the expenditure. That Tennesse game is not sold out. It will be if Moss is on the team.

    Shhhhhhhhh

I would think teams would have to be able to talk to the player though....

Wouldnt they want to know if the guy is gonna want to play...BEFORE they put in a waiver claim. Once the claim is put in...it cant be taken back.

    Are we sure about that?

The guy has been released. It only makes sense that you should be allowed to contact his agent before putting a claim in.

I agree. It's not like in baseball where you are still property of the team that's put you on waivers until another team picks you up. Technically, he's in limbo.

Of course they would. But this would completely defy the whole premise of the waiver wire, which is parity. Why would Moss play for BUF when he could easily say "no thanks" in order to sign with a decent team and make more money?

Because he can't say no thanks. If buffallo claims him he either plays or forfeits his salary.

Not neccessarily, Ireland could easily have called Chad Pennington, Moss's Qb at Marshall, and asked him to talk with Moss and let him know if he would be interested, and motivated, to play in Miami.

As well as, I suspect contacting a waived player is not against the rules as it in no way affects the waiver granting process, there cannot be a tampering charge because the player is no longer attached to the team that still owes the contract.

Moss can say he would play in Miami for a dollar, it wouldn't matter because he will be awarded on the basis of waiver position, not future contracts.

Sure he can. What's BUF gonna do when he says publicly that he won't play a single down for them? Right: They are going to waive him again.

    No.

Put him on the reserve/did not report list, don't pay him and hold his contractual rights through the off season and tarde him for a pick.

Now Buffallo might not want to do that, but they could. Moss has no power here if a team ont he bottom wants to take a chance.

Yeah. But my point is that allowing teams to negotiate with waiver wire players defies the basic premise of the wire. What's the use of #1 priority when the player can de facto pick a team like a free agent can?

    Yes.

Trade him for a pick? A 34 year old free agent? Not likely. Plus, they can't even franchise him. There's literally nothing to gain for a team like BUF if Moss doesn't want to play for them. Nothing at all.

Of course it was his fault. It was a stupid thing to do, he was called out for it, he apologized BECAUSE it was a stupid thing to do, and then he even sought Dez out before the Cowboys preseason game to make sure they're cool because he felt genuinely bad about it. When was the last time you felt genuinely bad about and apologized for doing something that was in no way whatsoever wrong? To someone other than your wife or girlfriend.
