Anyone else find it a bit unfair that Vontae Davis is constantly held out of this conversation? It seems like ever since Favre said VD was the top CB in the game, defenses have gone to his side very sparingly.....so stat wise he's not even in the conversation. This kid definitely should receive a Pro-Bowl nod this year and I'd bet a dollar he doesn't receive it. I almost think it's good that OchoCinco caught a few balls yesterday...maybe offenses will start trying him again. On paper Cinci should have torched us with their receiving corps, but it took the Bengals almost two full quarters to make a 1st down in the second half. Miami's D is looking beautiful this season and defenses win games....even with the blunders I think our overall defensive rating is misleading. They've kept us in every game that special teams held up, and truthfully there is not a single opponent left on our schedule that I say, "How will we stop them?" It seems like the theme for the year is, "If Henne and Carpenter score 20, we win." I won't get into our offensive woes because I know we play conservative football after grabbing a lead (and like we saw in the Cinci game...well before we actually have the lead), but even when we were down 14-9 I had confidence that the D was going to hold so we could grab that W.
He is one of the best CBs in the game. For a position like his, especially one where he is rarely tested... it will take some time for him to hit mainstream since he doesn't show up in the stat sheet, and rarely is even given an opportunity to show up in the highlights. He is getting his due from people that know the game well... but it takes a while to get mainstream. Usually the offseason afterwards is when the mainstream starts to catch up. Expect him to be much more of a house hold name nex year, after he's played like he has for a full season...
its all good that no noise is made about him. The more publicity he get the more money he gonna want. IE - Darrell Revis.
Pro bowls are nice but with or without a pro bowl nod Vontae is definitely in the conversation this year for best CB. Hes probably not ahead of Asomugha or a healthy revis but he will be on that level in future years I think. This is only year two and its scary how much of an improvement hes made. Loved the idea of drafting him and I love the progression and effort I am seeing. For a guy who scared off teams and fans with pre-draft junk that was shown to be nonsense (for the most part), hes been a model citizen and a very good player this year.
Brandon Flowers and Vontae Davis have really elevated their games from last year. Vontae is working hard every down, which I really like.
If Sean Smith shows progression and becomes a great player, Vontae will get more chances to be tested which will give him better stats. The reason Jason Allen got so many INT's is because he got so many balls thrown his way.

Which is nuts--because Ted Ginn owned Revis, a much worse WR in the same part of the year...but no mention made by the media.
on who he needs to replace at the probowl, Namdi or Derrelle? "somebody's got to go", laughing but serious. My favorite dolphin's ...VD21. Jake Long. He did a 10 min piece on the dolphin website that is must see tv...love when he talks.
For being one of the better teams against the pass in the NFL (yardage/game), you would think Davis would get some more noise. For being picked on quite often, Allen holds his own. I like the way our defensive backfield plays.
That is another huge factor, the SparanoPhins do not receive any serious media coverage, certainly not from ESPN. After we beat Cinci, Tim Graham had 1 story on the victory, the same amount of press as the Bills, the Jests and Pasties had 3 apiece, ESPN's NFL Blitz and coverage today featured the TO TD off of Clemons botched int chance and a single Ricky run..that's it.
Well to be fair to Allen, he has been targeted numerous times, even after recording the INT's he has made this year. considering the INT totals for him before this year, I would say he's done a pretty decent job considering the workload of passes that come his way. I've always heard analysts say it's one thing to be a shutdown corner, it's even harder to be the guy on the other side of the field because you get targeted on purpose and you better be up for a long game. Even though Allen has made some mistakes through the first 7 games, i would say he's made some good plays as well. It all stems from teams not wanting to target Vontae, which besides the media, tells us he is getting the attention of opposing offensive coordinators. Speaking of Defensive backs/Safeties, how stellar has Earl Thomas been this year. He's lights out in Seattle. I know many on here were hoping we got him in the draft at 12. DIdn't work out that way but man if we had him back there too our secondary would be lights out. Although we wouldn't have odrick and misi. And Odrick hasn't played and Misi has been awesome in his role. I think Earl Thomas wins rookie of the year on the defensive side of the ball.
