Sampson Genus is the best center I've seen this year. A little inconsistent but he's very strong, he locks out better than any lineman at any position I've greaded this year and he plays with terrific leverage.
If Greg Childs comes out he's a first rounder. Along with Justin Blackmon and Alshon Jeffrey, he's the best WR I've seen this year. I've seen the Razorbacks four times now in their first 7 games and each time I'm more impressed. He's like a faster Anquan Boldin.
Childs was awesome last year too(as was Jeffrey). Blackmon's been near unstoppable this year it seems.
If Anthony Castonzo is the bench mark for left tackles in this draft, then it's a very average bench. Just watched back to back BC games solely for Castonzo having watched them in their entirity for the other players such as Rich Lapham, Thomas Claiborne, etc. Castonzo got abused by FSU's Brandon Jenkins on Saturday. He's a good player certainly - Castonzo - and Jenkins will be a 1st round pick in 2012, but even so. What you see from AC is decent feet, but arms way out wide, not protecting that breastplate at all. Elbows too far out; he sets up sometimes like Bryan Bulaga, like he's hugging a tree. He's fast, decent in space and a strong run blocker - much stronger than Claiborne who looks like he should be blowing guys 20 yards off the ball. But Castonzo gets those shoulders turned too far to the sideline and he gives up the inside too readily. He's susceptible to spin moved and he can be left for dead by quickness. I advocated that I thought Jake Long would be an All Pro RT and not necessarily a LT - how wrong could I be - but I never saw Long taken to the cleaners the way Castonzo was on Saturday.
I don't think he's soft necessarily - he gets decent movement in the run game - but I don't think he's particularly strong. His slap is nothing. You look at the kid from South Carolina, he's swatting flies with those big paws.
Nathan Enderle QB from Idaho late round guy. Big 6'4-5" Good not great arm, Honor student. As developmental QB?
Justin Blackmon might be the second best player in the country behind Cam Newton. Man, Prince Amukamara had 4 balls caught on him all season. Blackmon had 5 for a buck fifty plus. He's the best WR in college football bar none and only a sophomore.
I never understand this , of course it is wrong , never condoning drinking and driving but ... If you have a few beers , may be over he legal limit , why would you speed and bring attention to you? let alone when you have so much to lose? Dumbazz ...
Pick your poison. Peterson has great confidence, is big, fast, physical, great closing speed, COD, hips, great break on the ball and mad return skills. But I wonder about just how instinctive he is at times. Prince is a big guy, but looks less physically imposing. He's more naturally gifted in terms of being a pure cover corner. His hips and ball awareness are fantastic. He sits in trail better than any corner in the nation and had, till the OSU game, 4 completions against him all season. They're both great players.
If Peterson is somehow available for us (perhaps due to a late falter) you have to consider him for the return dynamic I think. I'm interested in Running Backs though. Nobody really pops out this year aside from Ingram, and he's not the fastest guy out there. How well do you guys think he will translate, and would it be something our backfield could use? Or will we look to round 3 and down to find someone as more of a change of pace?
I think Ingram translates very well, honestly. Only worry I have about him is how his durability will be at this level because of how much contact he looks for. I think he would be a great fit for this team.
Gabe Carimi played Cam Heyward and Adrian Clayborn back to back and if you're going tp put yourself out there as potentially the best LT prospect in the draft then you may as well do it against the best players. He played 2 strong games against legitimate top 15 prospects. In fact Clayborn, along with Akeem Ayers and Amukamara is the best defender I've seen all year. Carimi did a pretty bang up job.
I know its early Boom, but I don't start watching film of players until mid December so I'd love to hear who you have as your top 15. I know I know too early and all, but just to get some sort of idea on how things have been moving this year you know? So far, it seems like the skill positions are the strongest this year.
I'm not an expert, but from what I can tell the WR position seems absolutely loaded. From what I can see you have 4 legitimate star caliber prospects in Green, Baldwin, Floyd, and Jones. And as someone who follows the Hurricanes closely for my money Leonard Hankerson looks like a taller Reggie Wayne.
But you could say that any year with any group of players can't you? That's the beauty of the draft, you never really know. But I can't remember a WR group with this much potential any time recently. At least that's just my humble opinion. I haven't done as much research nor do I have the eye for talent that you, or some of the other great posters here do.
Allen Bradford to replace Ronnie/Ricky? Not sure I really like Bradford that much, but just trying to peg who they might be looking at. Kris O'Dowd?
Watching the Ohio U vs. Kent State game, and there's been one player that's really flashed today. Cobrani Mixon the MLB for Kent State has made quite a few plays. If we were looking for a cheap, late-round, potential replacement for Channing Crowder, Cobrani Mixon might be worth a look-see. He's listed at 6'2" and 240lbs. He's certainly not as fleet a foot as Karlos Dansby is, but I think he matches Crowder well in terms of range and speed and is a solid tackler.
Anyone been paying close attention to Pouncey recently. Still curious to see if he's the guy that we draft, based on how poor we've looked trying to get push against NTs. I wonder if Gurode is long for Dallas?
Cam Newton really impressed me today. I'm curious what the thoughts are around here on him. He obviously will have to be a work in progress, but he looks like he might be an interesting prospect. Alabama, a very pro-like offense took away the run and he found a way to beat them with his arm.
With that in mind, what do you think of him as a prospect? Obviously he will need time a patience from whoever drafts him, but it certainly seems the tools are there. Do you see him in the Big Ben mold where he will use his athleticim and size to buy time, or is he more of a Vince Young type that will probably never be a pure passer?
I haven't broken him down yet completly but he does have some tools, just needs a lot of work. I don't want to say anything yet regarding comparisons because it would be wrong of me to tell you something when I haven't watched him the way I usually do with players, so I'll stay quiet on that. However, it would not surprise me if he is a first round pick.
Agreed. And from the games I have seen Newton I see a different kind of player. But I'll let you do your research and see what you think.
I think there's more to the VY - Pryor comparison than the talent. Maybe I'm wrong here but I don't believe that the entire Tennessee locker room is behind Vince Young. He's not a great leader. I know for fact that not everyone is behind Pryor in the OSU locker room.
