    Today's rumor:

And here is the latest rumor in regards to Batman 3. According to a source, who is allegedly a former Warner Bros. intern, Marion Cotillard (Inception) was offered her choice of the roles in Batman 3. Those roles were Selina Kyle or Talia al Ghul. Unfortunately, it looks as if she will not be in the film. According to the source…

"They went on to tell me that Cotillard has had to turn down the offer as of now as she's unsure whether the planned shooting start date of the next Batman movie will clash with other projects she's either interested in or already committed to, despite the fact that she's reportedly keen to re-team team with Christopher Nolan."

Who knows if it's true or not but at least it's somewhat interesting. Maybe they're planning on bringing back Ras will be back for B3?

Some small news: Christopher Nolan officially announced he's back to director Batman 3 and his brother turned in a first draft outline and now they're working on the script. Michael Caine also stated that filming will most likely begin in May and Nolan is keeping who the villain(s) is/are secret right now.

    New rumors:

    - Killer Croc will be the main villain.
    - They will be filming some of his scenes in New Orleans.

Not sure if I buy Croc since he doesn't seem to be a realistic character Nolan is going for.

Neither was the Joker, really. He made it work.

If true, I don’t think Nolan’s version of Croc will be 12 feet tall and half animal.

I'd like to continue to see human characters without any cartoonish deformities or superpowers or abilities.

The Riddler could be right, but only if they play it dark and straight; he would be an evil genius like Lex Luthor. That might be too much like Ledger's rendition of The Joker, though.

Even Catwoman would be too cartoonish IMO.

The reason the original worked so wildly well was that Ras al Ghul was a real person, with just the usual and customary license necessary for a good action character. The Joker as well, despite the inherent eccentricity of the character; the touch of genius was how Nolan had the character keep changing his "origin" story so that you never were sure what the real truth was.

This third film will be a crucial crossroad for the franchise; done well it could facilitate more stories in the same vein with or without Nolan and Bale, but done badly it will require a total reboot (again) to continue.

Nolan didn’t come up with that. The Joker’s been doing that in the comics for years.

Right but a guy with clown make up is much more realistic than a half animal being. I'm sure if Croc is in the movie than he'll be a human with deformities (kind of like The Penguin in Batman Returns).

Either way I trust Nolan that he'd make it work. Croc wouldn't be my choice but until Nolan makes a crap movie it's kind of hard to question him.

There's no reason to do a reboot of the franchise again. Nolan nailed the origin story perfectly. Why keep going back to it and retell the same basic movie? The next director should either play off what Nolan started or go in a completely different direction but a reboot would be an absolute terrible idea. But knowing Hollywood even if Nolan nails the 3rd film, they'll do a reboot anyway.

Just like Batman, Joker has had several "incarnations" over the years, and not all have been serious...but the Joker that Ledger brought to life was unlike anything I've ever seen before, and I collected comics in the '60s and '70s.

The closest was the Joker of the Arkham Asylum graphic novel.

Sorry, I should have been clearer; I didn't mean reboot including origin, just all new cast along with the Director, which would likely result in a different dynamic.

Oh gotcha. Well then they're going to reboot the franchise after B3 anyway no matter how good or bad this next movie is. Nolan already stated numerous times this would be his last Bat-film (see what I did there?).

I still think The Penguin with Phillip Seymor Hoffman in that role would be incredible. The guy is such a fantastic actor, you could easily incorporate his range into the gritty Gotham that Nolan has created.

I tend to agree about Riddler's character possibly being too close to Joker in this universe. The rumors of Talia being a character are pretty rampant which leads me to believe we may not see some of the "favorites," when it comes to villains.

I say somehow work Spiderman into it and have Batman and Spiderman face off creating the biggest box office in movie history.

Rumor of today is that Tom Hardy (Inception) has been cast as the lead villain. Also a lot of people are starting to shoot down the Killer Croc rumor from last week. Hopefully we'll get everything confirmed sooner or later.

    :up:http://www.fandango.com/movieblog/b...tar-tom-hardy-as-possible-villain-645461.html

Getting things underway, it appears as if Nolan has chosen Tom Hardy (Inception, Bronson) to play "a lead role" in the new Batman movie, presumably as one of the main villains since, other than a replacement for Harvey Dent, there doesn't seem to be anyone else for him to play. Because Hardy is so versatile, the list of villains he could potentially play is pretty long – from The Riddler to Killer Croc, there are a number of large-and-in-charge bad boys this actor could take on.

No other additions to the Batman 3 cast yet, though if Nolan is picking and choosing from his Inception cast, look for names like Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Riddler?) and Marion Cottilard (Catwoman?) to also be tossed around before things are finalized. Batman 3 (which isn't the film's official name; we're just calling it that until they give it one) will hit theaters on July 20th, 2012.

Ledger's portrayal of The Joker was so stong and good it would be near impossible for another actor to tackle that character for a while, just like after Jack Nicholson did the role, it was not portrayed again for 20 years. Most actors would shy away from that, just because of the comparison factor. If they didn't live up to Heath's standard, it could hurt their career.

Third Batman to be Titled The Dark Knight Rises

In an interview with Hero Complex, Christopher Nolan revealed that the title for his third Batman movie will be The Dark Knight Rises. He added that the villain "won't be the Riddler."

"We'll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we'll be introducing some new ones," Nolan said cryptically. He also said that the studio has agreed with him not to shoot the film in 3D.

Nice find! Not sure I love the title but its better than some of the rumored ones like the predictible Gotham City. I beat it will grow on me as time goes on, I will say it is kind of fitting since the 3rd film will probably be about his redemeption and all.

I'm glad we finally got news on who won't be in the film. I think everyone was just assuming it would be The Riddler so it's nice Nolan confirmed it. I'm interested in seeing who Tom Hardy will play, the hot rumor is on Black Mask.

Also good Nolan has gotten WB to agree not to use 3D. That was a big concern with him as he doesn't like 3D to begin with and it would be tough to film due to the way he cuts his action scenes (especially the fight scenes). Plus with the 3D glasses and the way Nolan's Batman films are so dark looking to begin with it may he made viewing the movie more difficult.

Nolan could name his movies 'Crap' or 'Junk' (edited the titles to make it more PG) or whatever and I'd still go see it. The guy is great at what he does. But yeah you'd think for someone that writes/makes such good movies he'd be able to come up with something better than Batman Begins or TDKR. Although I guess one could argue the title lets the viewer know what the movie is going to be about.

If you think about it, besides the obvious 'Batman' and 'The Dark Knight' the Batman movies were never really titled well.

Rumor of the day has Tom Hardy playing Harvey Bullock, a GCPD Detective, assigned to track down and bring in Batman for questioning on the deaths of Harvey Dent and the others Dent actually killed at the end of TDK.

In my opinion it's very possible since there have been numerous questions about Gordon's throwaway line at the end of TDK about the number of people Dent killed (since we the viewer only saw him kill 3 and Gordon mentions 5). And Nolan has refused to answer who the other 2 were and if it somehow plays into the 3rd film in past interviews.

I also think Nolan can name the movie "Give me all your money if you want to see Batman" and it would be fine. But I wonder if they thought about using the same title from Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns". Actually, now that I type that and think about it, TDK Rises fits better.

Hardy as a detective certainly makes sense. I've also read a good suggestion that he could be the new DA who runs on bringing Batman to justice.

They probably purposely stayed away from 'The Dark Knight Returns' because it would be too close to 'Batman Returns' and some people might automatically think of 'The Dark Knight Returns' graphic novel which is nothing what 'TDK Rises' is going to be like. They don't want to confuse the customer into thinking it was something it wasn't.

Personally I like TDK Rises much more than TDK Returns, especially since the title fits in better with Batman Begins and TDK.

Yeah I definitely would watch that and think it would be pretty cool.

I actually heard people trying to pitch a series based on Gotham City, kind of like NYPD Blue meets CSI but the focus would be on Jim Gordon and the GCPD trying to catch the various villains without the aid of Batman.

    Great idea about a miniseries.

Is it in TDKR that Gordon retires as commissioner and the new one pledges to bring Batman to justice? You mentioned something similar to that as a possible thing Nolan could use in this next movie. That would certainly make a lot of sense.
